Very few are true synthetic !

Group IV (4) base oil (synthetics) are chemically made from uniform molecules with no paraffin and generally don't need Viscosity Additives. However, in recent years Group III (3) based oils have been labeled "synthetic" through a legal loophole. These are petroleum based Group II (2) oils that have had the sulfur refined out making them more pure and longer lasting. Group III (3) "synthetic" motor oils must employ Viscosity Additives being petroleum based. As more and more large oil companies switched their "synthetic" motor oils to the less expensive/more profitable Group III (3) base stocks and of the large oil companies, only Mobil 1 Extended Performance, is still a PAO based true synthetic

Did not last longer than 5,500 miles.

1 have a 165,000 miles on my 2001 Chevy Impala LS with a 3.8L and had to change the oil after 5,100 miles. I used the 5W-30 Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil with the M1-101 Mobil 1 extended performance filter. I understand oil filters are not designed to filter oil up to 15,000 miles even the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter. The oil claims to protect up to 15,000 miles which I would never use oil up to that extent. I however I was hoping to get at least 8,000-10,000 miles out of one oil change. The oil got black after the 5,000 mile mark. My engine is in 100% working condition and have not had any serious engine issues, but rather the typical fixes of head gaskets and ect due to age. Also I use to change my oil every 3 months even if it didn't reach the mark of 3,000 miles with regular 5W-30 oil. Overall I rate this oil as a 2* being it was not able to reach at least 8,000 miles on one change for a "Full Synthetic Oil".

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your concern; however an oil being black does not determine whether or not it is at end of life. There are many reasons why the motor oil color can change. If the motor oil is good at cleaning up sludge, like Mobil 1â„¢, it will appear dark in color very quickly as it is cleaning the engine parts. It does not take much soot and sludge to turn a motor oil black. A better determination of end of life is to monitor the physical and chemical characteristics of the motor oil. ExxonMobil does this with the Proof of Performance testing that it does on all Mobil 1â„¢ motor oil products. Mobil 1 oil filters provide up to 15,000 miles of guaranteed protection when used with synthetic motor oil.

Keeps my engine at its 100%

Have been using Mobil 1 oil ever since I purchased my first performance vehicle in 2013. Loved how it kept my corvette running smooth. So I started using Mobil 1 EP for all my other vehicles. It may be a bit over the top but, it keeps my mind at ease knowing all my vehicles regardless of OEM recommendations that they are being taken care of by quality oil.

22 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG

I have a 1995 Toyota Camry LE V6. I've used Mobil 1 since day one. About three years ago I switched to Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil because I started driving longer distances. The oil has held up really well and keeps my engine's moving parts clean. I know because my mechanic changed my head gasket and told me so. I also use Mobil 1 oil filters to match the extended protection of the oil since most oil filters only protect up to 7.500 miles. I love this oil and so does my car.

Oil did not look good when changed after 10 months

I used Mobile 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 for the first time. We reached 15,000 miles in 10 months. The oil was black, of course, that is to be expected. What wasn't expected is the viscosity was thick. So I will either go back to regular mobile 1 and 7,500 miles or try again at 12,000 mile. I have not decided yet.

How long will your engine last?

I've used Molibe 1 in my engine ever since I bought it. I just passed 427,000 miles and it still runs fantastic. This is my work vehical. I do not baby it, but don't abuse it. I trust it completely even with the miles on it. It has never been rebuilt or opened up for internal egine problems. I only trust Mobile 1 to keep it doing exactly what it's doing! As far as I'm concerned, there is no other motor oil, all 4 of my daughters, all my friends, and anyone who asks me, all get the same answer, put Mobile 1 in your engine, and never worry about your engine again. I will let you know how things are going after half a million.

Excellent protection cold or hot

This oil is extremely well rounded and worth the extra cost over almost all other synthetics. It is a fair deal at Walmart for 28.68$ / 5qt jug however, I wouldn't pay 10$ a quart for it at the local auto parts store. I have a 2012 Genesis Coupe 2.0T with 141,000 miles on it and counting. I have used this oil for the majority of oil changes, all of which I have performed myself. I live in northern ND and this vehicle faces extreme cold conditions for a quarter of the year. I have never run into any engine related problems the entire time I have owned this vehicle (bought it new#. I would never run this oil for 15,000 mile intervals being that it is a turbo engine however I have pushed it as far as 6400 miles with no problems. I have always been a loyal BP fuel customer and, as a result, have tried to convince myself to switch from this oil to Castrol Edge Extended Performance especially since Walmart now carries it in 5qt jugs for the same price. After a couple Castrol oil changes I have switched back to Mobil1. Although the Castrol held up fine, I can't help but feel like it is an inferior product to Mobil. After 5800 miles the Castrol poured out extremely thick and I do notice better fuel economy with Mobil1. I drive a lot and constantly monitor wind, temp, etc. and take this into account with fuel economy. I believe there is a good reason why Extended Performance Mobil is consistently selling out at both Walmarts around here. If your going to spend this much on an oil change, I would strongly suggest using this Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil and also a quality oil filter #Not a Fram, etc.) There is no point in using oil of this caliber with a 3-4 dollar filter. My only complaint about this product is the price of Mobil 1 E.P. oil has gone up significantly in the last year, I believe in early 2014, I could buy it for $25.17, then it went up around April/May to $27.97 and now, $28.68. If it goes up another $3.50 next year I will most likely consider something different. As comforting as it is to know I am using a product that will tolerate anything I would possibly put it through and then some, there are many other oils less expensive that can sufficiently protect my engine too. In the end, I recommend this product to anyone looking for a top notch oil. It is worth the extra 2$ investment over regular Mobil1 in my opinion and based on the research I have done online. If you are looking for a quality synthetic at Walmart, you will find most everything has a similar price. I would strongly advise choosing this motor oil over Pennzoil, Castrol, etc. based on my experience.

If only the world was as great as Mobil 1 !

Vehicle: 1997 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 5.7 Liter - 6 Speed Be it summer or winter, Mobil 1 Extended Performance (in my case: 5W-30) has never let me down. Protection to 15,000 miles is extraordinary. And at 4,000 miles, the oil still looks very clean. A proven attribute to the Mobil 1 (M1-111) Extended Performance oil filter. (and K&N air filter) A match made in heaven. Despite my confidence in this oil going the 15,000 miles distance, I choose to drain and refill with new Mobil 1 Ext. Performance along with a new Mobil 1 Ex Perf. oil filter at 3,500 to 4,000 miles. I just feel better about this... you know... the "peace of mind" thing. I can't help but wonder what other astounding oil and fuel breakthroughs await us car & truck lovers from Exxon-Mobil in the future. Thanks.

Have always used this oil in my 1998 Lumina

I have owned my Lumina for about 5 years now. I got the car from my grandmother and she always changed the oil every 5000 miles. Good thing she did because when I got the car it had 126K miles on it and they were all city miles. When I got the car it ran well never leaked oil or used oil in any way. The car now has 172K miles on it and its starting to show its age. I am starting to use more and more oil every change. Personally I attribute the long life of the engine free of leaks and using oils to using mobile one Extended Performance. I have used it from day one with my car and when my friends cars were all on there last legs mine was running great. My car has only started using a considerable amount of oil in the past few thousand miles. The car is just getting old not to mention I installed a hood scoop and re-routed the air intake to suck fresh cold air. I think just the cold air intake alone increased performance and in turn has created more wear to my engine. I am currently still using M1Extended Performance but am looking into switching to the high milage oil. I use other products like Lucas Stop Leak to compensate for the old age of the engine. The reason for switching is because its more convenient than having to add all sorts of additives to my oil. I will continue using engine restorer because that stuff works like a charm for low compression issues. All in all the Mobile 1 oils are by far the best for your car. No other motor oil will ever touch my engine.
