I was able to take these handheld radios with me on an off road 4X4 trail last weekend. Some folks in my group had some super cheap radios that they picked up at a local big box store, and these Midlands showed them up. Our group got seperated, and when they were calling us we were out of their low output range. I then gave them one of mine to use, and the conversations were much clearer. We could get three times as far, and did not lose them again. The bonus was that after a full day of wheeling the Midland battery level did not drop one bar, but 3 out of their 4 radios had died.

These radios have every feature I could possibly want and more. I’m surprised that they were so affordable and included so many useful accessories. My only complaint is their advertised range. Even at full charges, they barely connected at twenty miles. Thankfully I don’t really need them any further than that.

These are great little radio's , not as good as a mobile unit but much better than a FRS radio. Easy to get a license but of course it is on a government website so a little confusing . $35 for ten years, no test and your family is covered. These do not connect to repeaters but can connect to other hand held several miles away even in congested areas.

Great radio... has all the features you need which are easily accessed using the five buttons on the face. The antenna is not removable, but its small enough and beefy enough making it super rugged. It boasts 50 channels, but be aware that channels 23-50 are simply one of the first 22, but with privacy codes. These coded channels only keep you from hearing other users' conversations. I personally find this rather useless as you may very well interfere with other conversation. Is sole purpose is to keep the radio completely siilent until a transmission is made from your other radio. Also note that this radio cannot be programmed to use any repeaters. It is a basic radio for simplex use. In conclusion, it is a great little radio for anyone that wants a two way communication device that is simple and uncomplicated to use. Lastly, I have found the battery holds its charge vell and gives you pleanty of "use time"

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Midland GXT1000VP4 50 channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio works fine over short distances. I have not had any luck with 36-mile range. The range is a few miles under good conditions, but that is all I need. The good things about the pair of radios is that you have 50 channels and encoding to select the radios that will receive the signal. You can add more radios and make this a good radio system with parents on one channel and others on other channels. It is very useful. The radio also has 3 power levels to select from to conserve the included rechargeable battery backs. A charger that operates on a 120 VAC wall wart or a 12 VDC using a cigarette lighter receptacle. The charger will charge both radios at the same time. The battery packs are also designed to use non-rechargeable batteries if desired. Accessories include belt clips, a headset/mics and for each radio. The Midland GTX1000VP4 FMS/GMRS Two-Way Radio is an excellent to use or as a present for anyone needing one. One additional feature I should mention is the CALL button which causes the radio you are calling to Ring alerting the radio called to respond to the caller.

I have enjoyed using it so much that I have bought 2 more sets. We have a total of 3 sets now. The range is good on the high setting even when going through several sets of walls and concrete floors. We get little to no interference with other people on the channel we use. We have had ours now for about 2 years and they still work well. We use them everyday.

I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY DAD THAT IS BLIND SO WHEN HE NEEDS ME I AM OUT SIDE HE HAS A WAY TO GET HOLD OF ME, THE BUTTONS ON THE SIDE IS BIG ENOUGH THAT HE CAN FIND IT AND IT BEEPS LET HIM KNOW THAT HE CAN TALK. HOW FAR I CAN GO WITH IT IS NOT BAD YOU CANT GO 10 MILES WITH IT BUT I THINK IT IS BECAUSE I LIVE IN A HILLY AREA. BUT IF ARE OUT IN THE FEILD OR IN THE WOODS YOU SHOULD BE OK. THE BATTARY LIFE IS NOT BAD . I WENT 2 DAY ALMOST 3 DAYS BEFORE I HAD TO CHARGE IT. BUT THAT IS WITH NOT USE IT MUCH. ITS NOT BAD THE HEAD SET FEELS LITTLE OFF TO ME THAT COULD JUST BE ME. IT WORTH THE MONEY IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO SIMPLE THINGS WITH IT.

Needed 2 more of these to have enough for our camp group to maintain good contact with each other and base camp. Sam's price was the lowest I found. The radios are rated among the best on the market with more features than most people need, My recommendation is to replace the 700 Mah battery pack with good quality Eneloop 2100 MaH rechargeable NiMH batteries for almost triple the capacity of the standard battery pack. I keep the standard battery pack as an emergency spare.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is of jigh quality and easily useable. It is according to the description online. I only wish it came with earbuds versus the headset. Unfortunately, it’s not accommodate to all ears and doesn’t stay on well. However, it is unlikely to use these headsets anyway. May attend to adapt them. This does not in any way detract from the quality of this item.

I realize that this is a fairly inexpensive radio set, but using them for a day the headset causes you to have an extremely sore ear. This does not get better with continued use. It also only remains in place if you are not moving your head. As I bought the warranty I will not correct this problem until it runs out. If the radios last that long I will get replacement headsets from the company that I purchase my motorcycle headsets from.
