I bought and use these radios primarily for off-roading. I used them this past weekend and they worked great! I and the other Jeep used the two handhelds all day without needing a charge and even when I got home to charge them they still had plenty of battery left. They are clear to understand and quick to setup and get working.

Great radio... has all the features you need which are easily accessed using the five buttons on the face. The antenna is not removable, but its small enough and beefy enough making it super rugged. It boasts 50 channels, but be aware that channels 23-50 are simply one of the first 22, but with privacy codes. These coded channels only keep you from hearing other users' conversations. I personally find this rather useless as you may very well interfere with other conversation. Is sole purpose is to keep the radio completely siilent until a transmission is made from your other radio. Also note that this radio cannot be programmed to use any repeaters. It is a basic radio for simplex use. In conclusion, it is a great little radio for anyone that wants a two way communication device that is simple and uncomplicated to use. Lastly, I have found the battery holds its charge vell and gives you pleanty of "use time"

After a day of skiing (~2 min of talk time, rest receive only) there were 2/3 bars on the battery indicator with the stock rechargeable battery. 15 minutes into day two and the radio is beeping about low battery. Watching the battery indicator it was bouncing between 1 and 3 bars. The second radio hit the same point an hour later. Some sort of extended battery pack that could be charged in the normal cradle would be a huge upgrade and it is disappointing that midland doesn't appear to currently offer any options like this or a radio with a larger battery. You can switch to AAs in the radio but it appears that you would then only be able to use non-rechargeable batteries or have to charge them external to the radio.

We farm in east central Kansas and needed portable radios we could use for a variety of activities sometimes miles apart. These radios fit the need well. One radio with the hand microphone moves from whatever the main equipment is that day or week(s) and the other stays at home or if we are shuttling equipment around. Using RAM mounts to easily move one from tractor to tractor.

Just purchased these radios to test them for use in our church security team, so far they are excellent radios. We only utilize them within a range of about 150 yards between buildings, but they are crystal clear in that range even with concrete walls in between us. Only had them for a month so far we will see how durability is?

I and most of our jeep club purchased the GMRS radios a few weeks back and are very happy with them. They tested great while we ran a toy run through the city. Operation is easy and range is far better than a CB. I would recommend this product to anyone.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Midland GXT1000VP4 50 channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio works fine over short distances. I have not had any luck with 36-mile range. The range is a few miles under good conditions, but that is all I need. The good things about the pair of radios is that you have 50 channels and encoding to select the radios that will receive the signal. You can add more radios and make this a good radio system with parents on one channel and others on other channels. It is very useful. The radio also has 3 power levels to select from to conserve the included rechargeable battery backs. A charger that operates on a 120 VAC wall wart or a 12 VDC using a cigarette lighter receptacle. The charger will charge both radios at the same time. The battery packs are also designed to use non-rechargeable batteries if desired. Accessories include belt clips, a headset/mics and for each radio. The Midland GTX1000VP4 FMS/GMRS Two-Way Radio is an excellent to use or as a present for anyone needing one. One additional feature I should mention is the CALL button which causes the radio you are calling to Ring alerting the radio called to respond to the caller.

I’m returning them. They’re worse than my 20yr old 2ways. They have a high pitched noise that comes in when they are more than 10ft apart, and it doesn’t matter what channel or settings…. It won’t go away. My old radios get clearer reception from farther away than these do.

I bought this so be and my buddy could communicate easier. It works good as long as the weather is permitting. Since I live wear it rains and snows a lot I use it when the weather is nice and it reaches straight through town. Otherwise weather is a major factor in if it reaches where you want it to. Which I was surprised. Otherwise works great.

Radio has excellent reach. In a small, hilly town with lots of trees and houses, I can clearly hear my staff from the town square all the way out to the public pool. Battery life is good as well. Easy to use and carry. Weather radio is a plus, very easy to set up. We like all of the features, including the "lock" on the buttons.
