I upgraded from the old 1080p system to the 4K and it is a significant improvement. Not only is resolution 4 times better but the night vision is much brighter, the lens angle is wider, and the Night Owl Protect app is significantly better than the old app. The added refinements make this system so much better

I bought my night owl 12 camera security system 6 years ago. and just now am having to replace my DVR system. My cameras are still woring fine. Of course running the wires through the atic was a major pain at least all my wires are concelled. A few small glitches with that app and connecting to the DVR system narrowed that down to my wifi router. I would recommend this system to anyone.

We hooked this DVR up to another set of cameras already hard wired in our home. (That system was through Q-See who apparently went out of business during the pandemic. The DVR we had for the Q-See system had started making noises and we believe the fan was starting to go). This works perfectly EXCEPT our TV is only HD and we didn't realize it needed to be a 4K in order to put the program onto the TV itself. It works fantastically though via our mobile devices and that actually has been working out well. The DVR is quiet. Eventually we will install the four cameras that came with this DVR.

This unit is a replacement for an older model. The software is much nicer to work with. The older unit handled 8 cameras and the new one handles 12. The one and only issue is with the remote software. You must have a cellphone to set it up. The world still has people who do not need nor want a cellphone. I do have a tablet but its not tied to a cell service. When you try to create an account it wants to send you a code as part of the first time log in. It sends it to a cellphone number not to the email address it asked you to provide. It will not allow you to create the account. I talk with a rep but he indicated my only option is to use someone's cellphone. The best option would be to have the code sent to a standard email which I can receive on any device.

I bought this item/kit, and the first one was DOA (no output signal yo the TV), the replacement one DID come fairly quickly but I was getting a weak output signal from it too as the TV would flash off and on, Customer Experience This booking page is currently unavailable. If it wasn’t for the first dvr being faulty, I would have given it 5 stars.

I upgraded to the 2 tb dvr, it seems a little better than the 1tb. Still streams to your mobile device in kbs. If that could become mbs i would actually like this unit. Otherwise i only like it when I'm at the dvr viewing footage. It live streams ok until you select an individual camera then that kbs screws it all up.

I have this equipment for 3 weeks now and there are some features to improve: definitely the App; besides not so user friendly it doesn’t respond fast enough when want to have access for a quick view or to check a sensor alert. Also I have to close it totally very often to make it respond and load the cameras. The other not so good features are the cameras speakers and the siren. Those aren’t good quality and hard to understand the prerecorded message or when having a conversation by the two way audio cameras. On the other hand, the good things it has are the good quality video of the cameras and the no need to have a tv or monitor connected to set up the system.

I got this system four months ago and I think I like my old system better. I like the audio with the system but the videos lag and it will notify me with vehicles and humans but nothing is there or its just a bug, rain, etc. Not sure if it’s my settings or not but my system only keeps 25 days of events and won’t let me manually delete to save space.

I have been with Night Owl for over 10 years. They decided to kill the Mobil App making your system worthless. If you wish to stay with a Night Owl you have to purchase a whole new system with no consideration of your years of loyality.
