[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a faithful Secret brand consumer. I've worn their clinical strength and invisible solid for years so I was over the moon to try this product! Secret outlast Clear Gel Deodorant is literally a clear gel that claims to offer 48 hours of odor and wetness protection. I was so eager to put it to the test that planned an intensive day of errands, meaning hours of running around the humid city (remember, it's July). Though it claims to be "clear gel" I was still anxious about white marks so I applied it after getting dressed. I took off the cap and clicked the base until deodorant started to appear from the wholes at the top. (Side note: this took me a few clicks and I actually thought the product was defunct for a moment.) Once I could see the gel I gave it two clicks and applied half to each under arm. It felt very we so I stood with my arms above my head for several seconds to ensure it was completely dry. The scent was initially too strong for my liking. I received a sample of the "completely clean" scent which smelled more like melons to me. I usually by the powder fresh scent because I hate covering up odor with strong perfumes.
I set out on my errands feeling pretty confident. It was 90 degrees out so I was really hoping this deodorant was up for a long hot day. One hour ( and one errand) later I was dripping in sweat and I already had sweat stains on my dress under my arms. When I got home and gave myself a whiff I smelled like sweat with a vague lingering hint of melon. I changed and put on a different deodorant feeling completely defeated.
A couple days later I gave it another shot, this time in anticipation of a 12 hour work day in a very hot kitchen. This time I applied 2 clicks to EACH under arm. I let it dry and threw on my chefs coat. I didn't necessarily feel "dry" all day but I gave myself periodic whiffs and It didn't appear to be wearing off as quickly. When I was getting changed to go home I didn't really smell bad but I definitely needed a shower and more deodorant.
Over all I was disappointed in this product especially when it claims to last 48 hours when I couldn't get it to last longer than 12. I guess this product might be better suited for someone who works in air conditioning all day and then hits the gym after work but my work day is like one endless trip to the gym! I also was really put off by the smell. If it came in a less distracting scent I think I would've been more inclined to give 3. But when the scent is both strong and unpleasing it's a no go for me. Also I felt I had to use a lot of the product the second time in order to get it to last longer. I feel like the Secret invisible solid offers stronger protection after using less product, so it doesn't seem like it would be a good value.
Some pros were that it did appear to be "clear". It was undetected on my cloths both times I wore it. Also I realized after the deodorant solid and popped off of my containers the other day that having a gel prevents that from happening, and it ALWAYS seems to happen with the solid kind. I still trust the Secret brand of products I just was expecting a miracle deodorant, which is kind of what it's claiming to be. I'll stick to the stick.
