This Tellurion Triumphs!

I put the Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit set together in two comfortable sittings. As always with Lego, the assembly instructions are excellent. I'm a longtime Lego fan, mostly collecting and building the modular buildings and winter village sets. I have some experience with Technic, such as the mechanisms in the Haunted Mansion and roller coasters. But I haven't done the big Technic sets before. This set is pure Technic, and I found it a joy to assemble. I expected the earth to rotate on its axis and revolve around the sun. And I expected the moon to orbit the earth. These functions work masterfully and make it easy to understand the seasons and the moon phases. One unexpected delight was the rotation of the sun. The real sun rotates faster at its equator than its poles, but this Lego model does a great job representing the overall rotation, and quite accurately. While building this model, I was struck by the excellent engineering that went into getting the gear and shaft mechanisms correct. The model is sturdy and operates smoothly. But the model is also artistic, with an elegant appearance. I recommend this to families, to science teachers, and to anyone who appreciates good design and wishes to learn about the relationships among our earth, moon, and sun.

Lego...Do Better

This is a very cool set and very cool to build. However Lego missed the mark with the stupid stickers. Come on LEGO...Do better. You have this advertised as PRINTED graphics however as usual they are STICKERS and NOT PRINTED. Why Lie? This isn't going to deter me from getting other sets but you have to do better for your customers. Either be honest or do what it says.

Educational and fun

This is one of the best Technic models that I have built. I love the complexity and the reality of the, hummm, planetary drive train. The box says 10+ but I think it would be very challenging for a 10-year old without assistance, especially in the later steps with the sun, earth and moon need to be lined up. The action is not exactly accurate but does illustrate the position of the three bodies in orbit. I have made one hack to it by replacing the yellow orb with a 3" LED light. Next step is to motorize the drive train with a heavily reduced gearing to simluate the days and moon phases.

Fun Lego set to build with son!

I got this set so I could join the fun with my son who is still new to lego, and to keep around for future homeschooling use. It was a great experience because the way the instructions were laid out made it really easy to take 3-5 minute turns assembling the next set of pieces to attach to the main build. For this reason alone, I would highly recommend to fellow parents looking to build alongside their kid.

How did you know I wanted this?!!!

My grandson was literally “ OVER THE MOON” when he opened the box with this Lego set inside. He thought I had used the empty box to wrap a different item!!! His delight was boundless! He focused entirely on the project and completed it in two days! WIN! Win!

Here comes the Eclipse!

With the big eclipse coming in another couple of weeks, I just had to buy this set. As an engineer, I truly appreciate the effort that went into this design. It was extremely impressive!! I only wish that it was designed to be expandable in a manner where other planets could be added in the future. That would have been beyond awesome!

Buy it if you love space or technic.

I love all things space, and getting to build a representation of this 3rd rock from the sun we live on and see it in motion was very fulfilling. I've cranked out some years on this already with a huge grin on my face, it's quite satisfying! All that aside, from a free-builder perspective this also makes an amazing parts box for a technic user, dare I say this was a slight intention, why else give us a full ring of banana gears and 4 wheels that serve no purpose? whoever designed this model understands the technic user, and thank you to that designer.

Not LEGOs Best Work

This Technic build while fun was certainly not LEGOs best work. There are many MOCs that are “bricks” above this. The mechanism is great but there is no explanation of their logic system. The greebling is unnecessary - you want to show the mechanics. It wobbles and looks like it could tip. Finally the LEGO spheres are horrid; LEGO has done better prints and spheres.

Bought it pre-eclipse

With the Eclipse coming we invested in the Lego Technic "Planet Earth and Moon in Orbit" so we could get a little hands on in trying to understand what's going on in the sky. It's a great build (lots of gears and moving parts). The engineering behind the set is very impressive. I moved the earth half way around the sun and counted 180ish earth rotations (aka 365 days in a year) You will also have a visual to help explain seasons and the phases of the moon (and probably more). NOTE: lots of reviewers were upset that the description says printed graphics, but the months and moon cycles were on stickers . . . The globe is the printed graphic.

Best Technic Set EverQ

This is a fun and interesting build that really showcases what Technic can do when it thinks outside of the box. I built it with my young kids helping/watching and it was an interesting set both to build and to explain the seasons when it was done. Well done Lego!
