Great replacement shredder

Our older Fellowes shedder finally had to be retired, because the bin broke and couldn't be replaced. Otherwise we wouldn't have needed to replace it, as it was still going strong after over 15 years of great service. This newer model is every bit as good, indeed better, as it has improved features. Though seemingly a minor matter, the caster feet are a great addition. The Powershred 79Ci also looks great. Looking forward to many years of continued great service from it.

Bad power switch

I bought my PS-79ci shredder about 8-1/2 years ago. It worked great for the first few years but they it got hard to turn on. After a few tries with the switch it would finally start but over the last few years it has taken more tries with the power button to get it to turn on. Now it won't turn on completely at all. It will momentarily light up and stay on for about 2-3 seconds but then turn off. This is poor quality to me. Even thought the shredder is 8-1/2 years old I haven't used it to its full potential. Not even close. I have probably emptied the bag about 3 times per year so the shredder really didn't get used like it is built to be used. For that reason I don't think there should be any problem with the switch or turning it on and keeping it on.

Worth The Money

Great product for doing everyday or occassional shredding. Design is very nice, but the pullout holding bin could be larger. If you do a large amount of shredding there will be lots of emptying. This product was decent in price, but from past experience the product holds up very well, so the money will be well worth it. Hope it lasts as long as my last shredder, a Boston strip shredder almost 10 years old. The Name, styling, features, operation & warranty are all GREAT attributes of this product. WORTH THE MONEY FOR SURE.

One Flow

I have over the years purchased 5 shredders --all made by this company. They all work just as good as the day I unpacked and used them for the first time. At this point in time I need a larger capacity shredder. The one I bought works great...but I have one complaint: I also purchased plastic bag liners to make emptying the maching easier...but, they hang up on plastic parts inside the collection basket and tear...I no longer attempt to use the bags....the basket's interior needs to be smooth with no jagged edges or exposed screws.

Money well spent!

I bid on my shredder in a silent auction and kept going back to make sure I got in the last bid. I keep it in the corner in the laundry room, close to where I open my mail every day. I've become very aware of identity theft and shred anything that has our name or address on it. It's much easier doing this daily rather than accumulating a box full and taking it to the large shredder at my office.

One of the best shredders I have ever used

Compared to anything else I have stuck things in to shred this by far has been the best machine for the money. My brother-in-law recommended Fellowes to me, so I did a little research and found out that this company out of anyone I have heard of tops all makes and models of shredders, Hands down! The set up of this machine was so easy and simple to use.

Good workhorse shredder

Overall, this is an excellent, reliable, shredder for a small or home office. It is quiet and the jam sensor works well. Does just about everything it says it will. It is used daily, and I am very pleased with it. Two minor Cons: It says it is a 12 sheet shredder, but a more realistic number would be about 8 sheets. Put 12 sheets in and the red light will come on every time. A few of the shreds seem to fall outside the container and wind up inside at the back of the frame. You just have to clean them out periodically.

Strong Silent Type

I needed a new shredder that didn't require me to waste time opening all junk mail, tearing off the sensitive info, and running those small pieces through a cheap 4-page shredder a few at a time. Further, that shredder needed me to spend more time pulling paper bits out of the shredding mechanism every time I emptied the bin. I looked at a number of in-depth reviews on this machine, and all gave it glowing remarks - with good reason! I've only had it a few days, but it does gobble up the advertized amount of paper, and I've found that I can shred many junk mail items without even opening the envelope - I just run the whole thing right through. As strong as it is, it's incredibly quiet - even more so than I had imagined from web videos I'd seen. Don't worry about complaints of the bin being difficult to close that you might read online. There is a catch near the bottom back of the enclosure that I suppose is designed to keep the bin from jostling out during operation. When you slide the bin back into the unit, that catch is what is making it difficult to get the bin all the way back in and engage the safety switch. When you hit that stop, if you just tip the top of the bin out a bit, that lifts the bottom back edge of the bin over the catch, the bin then slides right into place, and you'll hear the little safety switch engage. Also, don't worry about complaints of not having instructions on how to oil the mechanism. The instructions I received with the shredder show exactly what to do on page 4. And finally, I've seen no problems with mess, as long as I don't let the bin overfill. I'm not bothering with bin liners - just dumping the bin into a trash bag with other trash or recyclables, depending on what I've shredded. All of the shredded particles seem to fall into the bin. Caveat - I've not shredded a CD yet, and I expect those could get a bit more messy. Thanks, Fellowes! I'm looking forward to years of much more efficient shredding - and no more dread of the shred!

Excellent Product

We have had several shredders in the pass. The last one was a Fellowes and we wore it out. Our last purchase was the PS-79ci which has proven to be as excellent shredder. We don't anticipate having to purchase another one any time soon, but when we do it will be another Fellowes.

Superb Shredder

I purchased the PS-79ci shredder based on my previous experience with a Fellowes shredder. This shredder performs beyond my expectations. It is very quiet, has a nice safety device and operates very smoothly. I would strongly recommend this shredder to anyone looking for a durable shredder, including those who own a small to medium size company. You will be very impressed with the operation of the shredder.
