Awesome Swingset
What a great swingset! My wife and I worked together on this for a combined 40 hours. I'll list some of our "tips" that we used, or would use if we were to do this again in the future. #1) Sort out all of the wood pieces. This is vital to make sure you have all of the pieces, but equally important for ease of finding the pieces when it's time to put them together. We literally emptied out our garage and sorted the wood pieces by letter, placing them around our garage...it worked quite well. We noticed a piece was missing, and it was shipped to us within just a few days...great service! #2) We built the "base" in our garage, and then carried it out to it's final destination in our yard before anchoring it down. #3) 2 or more wood clamps REALLY helped us out. I would strongly recommend purchasing some if you don't have any. A big help... #4) We had a Dewalt cordless drill/driver with 2 batteries. We used both batteries on all 3 days that we worked on the project. We found ourselves using 3 different attachments for our drill. A) A phillips screw-driver attachment. B) A small drill bit to drill pilot holes (3/16" or so). C) A 3/8" drill bit to drill holes for the bolts. Having a second cordless drill with just the 3/8" drill bit would have been helpful for us, as we found ourselves switching that one out quite a bit. #5) We also had a CORDED drill/driver that we used only for screwing in the lag screws. This was very nice to have, as if we had used our cordless drill for these, I feel the batteries would have drained much faster. We used the cordless drill only to screw in the wood screws, to drill pilot holes, and to drill the 3/8" holes. #6) We used a simple ratchet with socket quite often to tighten the bolts. We felt it was nice to get a "feel" for how tight to get them, vs. using the corded drill which could overtighten the bolts and crack the wood. #7) We found a jig-saw helpful to us, but for a somewhat frustrating reason. We had to unfortunately cut a few pieces of wood that either didn't fit quite right, or were a bit too long, etc. We started with a sander to get pieces to fit, but ended up finding the jig-saw to be much quicker. #8) The screws, bolts, washers, etc. are very well labeled, which was awesome! We opened the little baggies very carefully so we could still read what was inside the bag. #9) We used a trailer pulled with our lawn mower to haul our tools and all of the screws, bolts, etc. In the morning when we were ready to work, we drove the garden tractor and trailer to the swingset and went to work. When we finished for the day, we drove the lawn tractor and trailer into the garage to protect our tools and keep the hardware out of the elements. This worked well... #10) My wife mostly got the hardware ready for me, got the pieces of wood ready, etc., and read the instructions. It worked pretty well...because you truly can only do one step at a time, so if two people were to try and work on this together, you would quickly run out of room... The time put into this project was worth every minute when we saw our 3 kids' eyes light up when they got to see it for the first time! We've researched a lot of swingsets and this one gave us the most bang for the buck. The kids have used it every day since we put it up! Enjoy! We sure are so far!
Thank you for your 5-star review.
Great Product
This is a great product. Not only did I order one but so did my parents. We watch my grandson who is 2 1/2, very active and over and above the charts for height and slightly above for weight. He loves this play unit but does need assistance with the monkey bars and sitting on the swing...something to grow into. I read the reviews and the best one says to sort the boards and use posts it notes to write the letter and number on so easier to read and secure with scotch tape; and organize the bolts, screws, nuts into bins...best advise. My husband, son-in-law and I inventoried the four boxes in 2 1/2 hours. My husband, son-in-law and brother (all of which very good carpenters) built our unit in 16 hours. When my parents unit arrived, me and my mother (71 years old) inventoried it in 4 hours. Due to work schedules when my parents unit came my brother and husband assisted them one day for 9 hours and over the next 4 days, my parents (dad 74 very good carpenter) finished it. Having that extra hand to hold or lift is very beneficial. Just a few of the boards had some bow in them and this did require some strength to get them positioned just right. The main pointer they learned from...in the beginning you are putting side pieces together, rock wall. ladder and slide before starting the middle section. The crow's nest is not done till later in the directions. So on the second unit, they jumped to the back of the book and did the crow's nest before starting the middle section. It was much easier than trying to build it up in the air squeezing through the small access (for a large adult) opening. The unit is as nice as the picture shows!
Best Sam's Club Playground
The Skyfort is the best playground hands down. The quality and price put it up there with more expensive playgrounds. My wife and I assembled one other smaller version of the Skyfort. I purchased the playground on sale, and was able to purchase-load-and go in about 30 minutes. Once home and unloaded, my awesome wife grouped all the pieces and marked the one's not clearly marked properly. Without her help I never would have gotten done in the short amount of time it took. We were short a couple of pieces, and the directions are not very clear; we were not new to this. Calling the 800 number put the pieces on our doorstep in about 2 days. It took about 30 hours to assemble and we added another slide for our son. These playgrounds are fun to put together and the quality of the materials is great. Have a plan before starting, plenty of tools and a weekend you can do it in. The kids love it. The Skyfort is holding its own; even against the BLIZZARD OF 2010!!!
Thank you for your 5-star review.
Great Play Set!!
We bought this for our 4 kids ages 3-9. They love it. It took us more then the 40 hours to put together because we actually changed it a bit. Instead of putting in the floor and picnic table underneath we did that as a full sand box and built a little porch on the back side by the rock wall to construct the picnic table. We also unpacked and sealed every piece of wood separately before installing and that took a day to sort out and treat and then a full day to dry before we started putting it together.
Thank you for your 5-star review.
We love it!
We love our new Skyfort II. We have had this swingset for about 9 months. My girls who are 1 1/2 and 3 have enjoyed it almost daily. We chose this swing set over others because we wanted something with monkey bars, a picnic table, swings, a slide, and a "clubhouse", this set offers all of that plus a glider, a crows nest, and a sandbox. Purchasing and Delivery: We purchased this online and had no complications, we chose to have it delivered. The delivery driver was very nice and even put it in our garage for us. The delivery driver drove a box truck for those wondering. Assembly: Intimidating from my point of view, so many pieces and screws and pieces, but that's why I'm married. Thank goodness for my husband and father-in-law who assembled in two days. From my husband...the pieces were sorted and small parts in labeled bags making assembly easy. We were missing one screw but were able to improvise with a screw we had at the house , and a few boards had to be shorted a tad to fit, but both of those were no big deal and for us, didn't warrant a call to the manufacturer. Use: We love it! We've had several neighbors and our HOA committee member ask us about it as several other homeowners want something similar. My girls especially love the telescope and the little windows. We love the wood roof so we don't have to worry about a plastic tarp to replace each year. With only 9 months of use we have noticed that the stain has started to wear/fade on the steps going up to the club house. We also wish the slide would have been made of a solid piece of heavy duty plastic verses a thin panel in between two sides with rods for support. (Mainly so I can slide with my girls, I'm a big kid at heart!!) Overall we are soo happy with this swingset and would purchase it all over again if we had to. We recommend it to all our friends as we get so much use out of it and with so many different things to do on it, multiple kids can easily play on it at the same time. Perfect for families with multiple kids.
Surprised by the quality. Larger than expected.
I was very surprised by the excellent quality of this kit. We had all of the pieces and they went to together like a well engineered puzzle. Instructions are lengthy, but very detailed and very accurate. All of the holes lined up with surprising precision. Hardware and pieces were all correctly and clearly labeled. Really don't have anything bad to say about this product. It is larger than I expected and looks pretty impressive in the backyard. Wish I had something like this when I was a kid... Highly recommended.
Kids love it, quality great for backyard structure
We really like this set. The kids love it. The set up is a long process, but if you're able to assemble Ikea furniture you can do this. We turned it into a family activity with music and food and we had fun. If you're organized, you'll rock it. The quality is good and safe for a backyard play set and the customer service was very responsive when we realized we were short a few bolts. Cannot emphasize enough the need to spend time to get yourself organized before you start assembling. Unpack EVERYTHING and arrange piles by the code that's printed on ends of each part (boxes come with mixed products for packing efficiency so don't assume items are already grouped) and sort all hardware and check the list against the list printed inside the instruction book. Call customer service immediately if something is missing. Have fun.
Great swingset
What a great swing set. We decided to redo out backyard by extending it so we bought this for my daughter whose 1 1/2 and she loves it. It did take about 34 hrs to build but well worth it. The wood isnt as think as the ones that sell for $3K + but my husband and I are able to stand in the little house together with no concern. We were missing some pieces but had them to the house within 4 days of calling. We made a few changes to how they wanted thing set up. We moved the stairs to the front, the rockwall to the back and the window to the front so it looks like the picture. We absolutly love our backyard now. I have to say for the price you cant find anythign better.
Thank you for your 5-star review.
not built to last
I loved this play set initially as it combined swings, slide and monkey bars. We ended up paying someone to build it which I’d 100% recommend, but we’ve had it right at a year and I’m so incredibly disappointed by how much is broken/breaking - and it’s not from rough use. It’s simply not built to last.
I am so sorry to hear about the challenges you've had with your Skyfort II with Wave Slide. If you would like to contact our Customer Advocate Team at 800-856-4445 from 8a to 6p, CST any day of the week, they would be happy to get your product registered and get your swing set up and running to manufacturer expectations. Since the product is a freestanding wooden structure the wood will need to be protected from the outdoor elements; this is a key part of the warranty. It will keep the wood from splintering, peeling, checking, cracking, and slow down normal wear and tear.
Easy enough for a women to build
My order of the Skyfort ll Cedar Swing Set/Play Set with Slide arrived on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday I applied water sealant to ALL wooden pieces and sorted by the alpha of each part number. Saturday had 2 men help get through step 4. No building happened on Sunday. Then I was on my own through for the rest and still had 3 young children in tow throughout almost entire build. Set was completely put together by Wednesday. Part H2 and the swing beam gave me some trouble and thankfully I called someone in to help me align it because once I got it to where it should have aligned the little cut out notch would fit the beam in it. Could have used a little more direction as to where pieces went on the structure, Step 7(example place wall boards on "interior side" of structure#. But overall I would highly recommend this set and company to anyone. However do yourself a favor and have help and get a babysitter during build:-) I could have gotten more help but the kids and I weren't willing to wait a week, so Mamita got cranking to it while daddy was working all day. Oh ya but 1 BIG complaint I have is for the screws #PWF 10x1/2#provided for green triangles like step 34 are AWFUL and just strip out. Just terrible!
