great pruchase

We love it n so does our 2 yr old grand daughter, the instructions were easy to understand, it took about 24-30 hrs all together to put up. We were a little overwhelmed when we opened the boxes and saw all the pieces but once we started it was all good. We kept all pieces in its own boxes with the inserted piece list and as we did a step we just looked at the sheets and knew which box the pieces were in and gathered them as needed. My husband did most of the work himself n I helped. We had no missing parts!! My granddaughter loves it n I like the fact that I can play on it to, the clubhouse is tall inside, where I can stand up. Being she is just 2, my husband did build two gates, one for the rock wall and one for the monkey bars, until she is old enough to play on them, just so she doesn't fall out the openings. Great Investment!!

Great product

When I received the playset it looked like a huge task from the 4 boxes of parts. I was able to complete this by myself in about 25 hours. The directions were fairly clear and the wood markings were mostly readable. Assembly was simple and when I ran short of a bag of bolts and 1 floor board a simple call to customer service had all parts on there way to me with no questions ask. My 3 year old is having a ball.

Worst consumer experience I've ever had

This purchase has been one of the worst customer experiences I’ve ever had. We ordered the playset with assembly in mid-April 2023. Apparently Sam’s Club partners with a third party company, Go Configure, for its assembly services—something that is not disclosed in the listing. The assembly company contacted us promptly and stated assembly would occur within 10 days. We took down our old swingset in reliance that the new one would soon be installed. It’s now been months of waiting and frustration. I called dozens of times to try to get an assembly date. The installation company finally committed to a date a month later (so two months from the time of purchase). Of course, when the date finally came, the technician never showed. When I called the company, they tell me the appointment was cancelled the previous night, even though they never bothered to call, and the company couldn’t provide me with a new installation date at this time. Needless to say, if and when there’s a new installation date provided at some point, I have no confidence their technician will show up for the appointment or will do quality work. This swingset was fully paid for months ago and has been sitting in boxes. I have called Sam’s Club multiple times, and so far all they’ve done is refer me back to their third party assembly company. Likewise, I called Backyard Discovery to speak with their Customer Advocates Team, and all they offered to do was e-mail the third party installers, because apparently Backyard Discovery has a contract with Go Configure as well, so they don’t partner with anyone else. I’ve come to learn that there are extensive consumer complaints posted online against the installation company (Go Configure) that Sam’s Club and Backyard Discovery have chosen to partner with, and there is a long list of Better Business Bureau complaints detailing similar experiences to mine. I can’t believe Sam’s Club and Backyard Discovery made the decision to partner with an installation company that has received such negative reviews and that Sam’s Club hasn’t addressed this situation. I’ve filed a consumer complaint and am still waiting for this issue to be resolved. This has been an absolute nightmare, and I highly regret my purchase at this point and the fact that I took down my old swingset in reliance that this new one would be installed in the near future. It appears that the business model here is to induce consumers to purchase a swingset by offering assembly, and then never providing assembly and instead causing so much frustration that the consumer ultimately gives up.

Title

I am surprised at how many good reviews that this playset receives. In the beginning, the playset seemed fine. The materials are thinner than some of the more expensive units that you can purchase. That, however is not the biggest problem. Within 4 months, this playset started to show a lot of wear. We have not even had this a year and the wood is flaking and falling apart. I would not recommend this to anyone. Wished we would have spent more money and purchased a better quality product.

Poorly Made

We have had this set for a year and a half. the stain has already worn out on many places all over the swing set. The boards are warping and cracking. I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old who have barely been able to play on it. I highly doubt this thing will last 5 years.

Its a monster thats for sure! I guess i forgot to factor in all the ground work that needed to be done. And you will definently need at least 3people to help each day..about 3-4 full days. Sorting wood and parts can be a days work in its own. We received LOTS of split wood. Its so dry and cheap we will have to stain it this year too. We just finished building today. Started almost 2weeks ago but we only had 1good day of help and lots and lots of rain days. Directions were rather sketchy on some parts and we did have to take a prior step apart and redo. I will admit..if i didnt have to buy a ton of mulch for the 6inch safety rule i would have paid the $650 to have them come out and build it!

Great playset and very happy with purchase

We are very pleased with this playset. We looked at Rainbow playsets and some of their competitors and just couldn't spend the money - 2-3 times the price for a similar design. Though the wood for the Skyfort II is not as heavy duty as the higher end playsets from Rainbow, etc., it is still good quality and certainly strong enough for little ones. I routinely get in the clubhouse with our 1 and 4 year old - its a little cramped and I have to be careful on the step ladder but it supports me with no problem (6'2" 180lbs). The crows nest is a great addition that not many playsets have - its a tight fit but I can even get up in there and stand without any concern for my weight. After considering a $600-800 set up cost if we hired it out, my wife and I put the entire playset together ourselves (plus we have a ~10 degree slope in our backyard and most companies wouldn't build it for us unless we had level ground... we just put 4x4s under the back corners and leveled it from there and it worked great). We build some of the separate parts (slide, monkey bars, ladder, and rock wall) in the garage and then spent an entire weekend building the playset. I would guess it took us 20-25 hours total... maybe a little longer. We certainly recommend going through all the wood and at least checking over the hardware - we weren't short any pieces and had tons of extra hardware but we did get a few replacements shipped as a couple of boards had small cracks. Customer service via the 800 number was great - they shipped out all needed parts via FedEx in 2-3 days at no charge and no questions asked. Since our kids are so young, we initially blocked off the monkey bars with a gate but then I decided to purchase a second slide for about $100 delivered and installed it in the place of the monkey bars (Leisure Time told me not to do this - presumably for safety/balance or design so I ordered it as a 'replacement') but its worked great and now we don't have to worry about the gate falling out. Plus we can reinstall the monkey bars when they are old enough. A few recommendations - lay out all the pieces before starting the build... this took a long while in our garage... maybe 3-4 hours but it did help during the build. We built the crows nest in our garage and not on top of the swingset as the directions say... it was heavy to lift up but I can't imagine building that whole thing on top of the swing bar. We thought the directions were surprisingly good but do pay attention to which direction the boards should go as a connector may be needed 2-3 steps later that you put on backwards... once you start building, you will see what I mean. Not a huge deal to backtrack but a little annoying. We also only have one cordless drill and there are a lot of connectors so we had the battery die a couple of time so we had to break to recharge... having a corded drill or second battery could have helped. The only real negative is that the wood is a little soft and the finish comes off too easily. I actually sent for replacement ladder steps as that seems to be the place where the finish has already come off from climbing. I tried to get the right stain to do touch-ups but the kind and color that the company tells you simply doesn't match. I figured its a minor issue considering the considerable cost savings but it is my one gripe - not sure why they can get you a small can or at least a tell you a color that actually matched. I sprayed it with two coats of water protector after the build was done (I know others say the sprayed every board before the build... I know after is much faster though likely not as thorough). As some reviews say, the swings are closer together than the pictures show but still fine to use all three at the same time at least when they are smaller. One more thing - we already had a sand box so didn't need the one included. In lieu of purchasing the extra wood to build a floor over the sandbox (an extra kit $100 you can get for the set), we got rubber mulch and used that... its great so the kids don't have to worry about falling/tripping over the empty box but we don't have to have more sand over everything. We also bought a ships wheel and music set (drums) on Amazon to add a couple of things and those have worked out well. Overall, we would highly recommend and would buy again. It was actually pretty fun to build with only a little arguing :) but I think it will be a good set for years to come.

Sturdy but short of awesome

Our neighbors have this brand but a different set so I was confident in the durability. I have a 3 and 7 year old so it was important for a wide range of ages to play for several years. There is lots of coverage on the assembly issues in the reviews (so just to reiterate) - very poor directions (especially at the base where the boards need to be inside the posts and not outside the posts as the pictures appear). From what my husband said, there were little to no instructions on spacing boards and just overall lack of direction in the instructions. There are also lots of comments on how sturdy it is so I don't need to cover that. So, as a mom, here are the things that I don't care for that this manufacture should fix. I thought I had done enough research, but I don't recall these areas of concern noted in other reviews but maybe I missed them. Because of all the coverage of the positives, I feel I need to note the following negatives. These are important to note as I would have likely purchased another set if I had known the following: First, the slide - why is it not molded plastic? Why is it a flimsy plastic sheet thread into two side pieces? I will be surprised if this lasts. More importantly the way the slide sits at the top of the platform it is very easy for little fingers to get caught between the slide edge and the wood posts as they steady themselves to sit down. My husband is looking for bolts to fasten the top sides to the post to prevent. Even the cheap sets have molded plastic slides so I don't know what the deal is with this one. I see us having to replace it with one from Lowe's. My second biggest issue is the spacing of the swings - very inadequate. When all 3 swinging items were in use there were a lot of near misses, so if any child isn't swinging perfectly straight then you will have a collision. The manufacturer needs to increase the beam length and space these out more. I passed over other sets because of this issue in those reviews. Third, I know monkey bars come with their own set of risks but my older daughter really wanted them. I passed up other sets because there was no place for the child to go at the end of the bars and this one allowed them to swing into the clubhouse instead of having to drop down or turn around and go back. However, seeing how the child has to maneuver to get into the clubhouse at the end, I see greater issues with falling because they have to get their legs up so high. Also consider the proximity of the monkey bar opening to the slide area and the increased fall risk for younger kids. When there are several kids on it and lots of them moving around very quickly, it would be so easy to misstep and fall out that opening as they wait in line to go down the slide. We will be modifying or removing the bars. Some of the kids in the neighborhood also have said the bars are just too far apart. The set is sturdy and is not as big as I expected (which worked in our favor with a smaller yard). It has a lot of options that others do not have which was one reason we bought it. The crow's nest has very high railings so I am very happy about that. The hole to get onto the crow's nest is quite small. I am not sure if a larger child could comfortably fit out it. As another reviewer mentioned, it is odd to have to walk in the sand to get to the lower clubhouse area and other side of the picnic bench. Somehow I wish they could have flipped the areas on the bottom part. Our delivery range was a 10 day period. We received it a day after the range, so it was a hard wait. I called SAMS customer service and they seemed happy help track it down, but never called me back. In the end I called the final carrier and begged to have it delivered since it would be a Friday and we needed the weekend to put it together. Otherwise I think it would have been several days late. They were then several hours past the end of the delivery range. At about 7 pm on a Friday night we figured we were just not going to see it until Monday, but it did come. We did have all our pieces so that was a good start. The instructions were not in box that was labeled to contain them so we printed the 117 pages from the internet so we could start sorting, but then we found them in the hardware box. So, look around before you do the same. In the end, I have mixed feelings about whether or not to recommend this set. Since it is not an overwhelming "yes", I have said "no" as I want to caution the buyers on the above points. This had such a high rating that I had very high expectations. Consider the above carefully until the manufacturer changes the slide and the swing spacing, especially.

DO NOT BUY

Do not purchase this item. I read the bad reviews but saw that there were over 300 5 star reviews so I figured it must just be people who like to complain and purchased this swing set. The quality of wood is absolutly junk!! I sent the manufacturers about 25 pictures of splits in the wood including the main 4X4 supports wich are just 3 smaller boards glued togther. Their response was it was due to over tightening and the set was not on level ground let us know 5 parts that are the worst and we will replace them and see what we can do about dicounting any additional parts. Discounting!!!!! more than five pieces came craked out of the box. The play set is dead on leavel all the way around. I bulid decks and fences arbors etc for a living this is not pressure treated wood it is dry and brittle and splits before you get the screws anywhere close to being tight enough. This swing set will not last 2 years do not waste your money!!!!

Great Value and Features

After reading many of the reviews and consolidating the suggestions, I purchased the playset and completed the assembly. It's a great set and no parts were missing like others have experienced. It did take about 25 hours with two people to complete the assembly. Here are the steps we used which really worked out well thanks to many that have gone before me: 1. Removed the lids off the 4 boxes and used them to store the small boards and used them for prepping for the assembly steps. 2. Took an inventory of every board and larger parts, I did not count the nuts and bolts. 3. The small boards I placed in the box lids based on their lettering, i.e., I put all the "K"s together, all the "O"s together, etc. 4. For the larger boards (i.e. those that are too long to fit into the box lid) I stood against the wall in my garage in letter groupings like I did with the smaller boards 5. Get about 25 small contains/bowls and dumped each bag of hardware (nuts and bolts) in the containers and then taped the bag to the container so you could read the item description of what was in that bag. 6. Laid out the wood onto saw horses and tables and coated all the wood with water protectant (this part took forever) 7. My wife gathered all the boards and hardware required for each step and placed them into a box labeled for that given step. Used zip lock bags to hold the hardware. She was always a few steps ahead of me. 8. As I got to each step, all the wood and hardware were together to assemble that step. 9. Allowed my older son to prep some of the next steps which was a BIG mistake! Does not pay attention to detail so I spent more time chasing the missing hardware! 10. For the wood rails that make up the walls that have to be spaced apart, it was easier to just cut a scarp pieces of wood the dimensions the directions called for and used that as a spacer. 11. If you want the window in the top section to face the front of the playset like the picture, make that change in Step 59 and 60. The directions have that window facing the back of the playset and the front would be solid. 12. Once the playset was assembled, I sprayed on a second coat of water protectant. 13. I also used 2 cordless drills plus a cordless screwdriver, one drill I attached a 1/2 socket to help with those parts requiring the hex bolts. Good Luck!
