I was also frustrated with this tape. Even though it says Shipping/Packaging tape, don't buy it (model 3450 tape) for paper or cardboard envelopes or boxes. It doesn't stay in place. It is very suitable to use on plastic packages. For boxes, use model 3650 tape (Long Lasting Storage Packing tape). The 3650 tape is much stickier and never falls off of boxes. My complaint to 3M is that they make many types of tape, and it's hard to tell which is suitable for which use. Even if you are just looking for packing tape.

As advertised, this tape starts easily. Unfortunately, that's the only good thing I can say about it. It sticks very poorly, rendering it almost useless as shipping tape. It also cuts very poorly using a standard shipping tape dispenser, perhaps because it comes off the roll so easily and thus doesn't provide enough tension for the dispenser to work. Ultimately, I'm extremely dissatisfied with this product.

I wanted to pack at night but the tape roll would wake my daughter without fail. This product is quiet! It’s easy to rip with one hand. Strong as can be. And there’s a very nice amount on the roll.

The tape worked flawlessly and the holder made it easy to control the speed of the tape coming out making it easy to apply to a box and get it on straight without wrinkles. The cutter cut cleanly and the tape went to the holding station. Wish I had had this in the past for all the packages I have mailed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] July 2013 I made a 4,000 mile journey across the country, having made that trip successfully without so much as one box fall apart or the tape peeling off, I am delighted that I purchased the Scotch Brand of Sure Start Shipping Packaging Tape. Sure Start Shipping Packaging Tape is reasonably priced, sure there are cheaper brands of packaging tape but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". Why settle for a cheaper quality of tape in the long run you won't be saving money if the tape does NOT stick or if the cheaper brand is hard to work with, even worse using twice the amount of packaging tape to ship your packages or move across the country trying to make sure the contents of the packages stays IN the package or box? So for me in the future I will be looking for my shipping supplies from Scotch I will NOT be settling for a "cheap brand to do my shipping. Satisfied Consumer - Virginia R.

Being an avid online shopper I am constantly in need of packing tape to return items that didn't fit right or were damaged on arrival. This tape is perfect. True to the advertising it is easy to find the end each time and I didn't feel the need to fold it over for the next use. I had a plastic packing tape holder and tried this both on the holder and without. Of course the holder had a cutting tool on it which made the process even easier. This is not tape that you can tear with your bare hands - just like every other packing tape. It held well and did exactly what I needed it to!

I love this sure start tape. It is easy to use and sticks well. A few times I had to go the the library to print shipping labels as my printer was not working. When I used a different 3M Scotch tape I was told I was making too much noise inside the library. This tape is great for packages and shipping labels. I only wish I could still find it in the 22.2 yd size

I was already in the process of packing up to move and had grabbed some tape from the same place I got boxes...let's just say, it was pretty lackluster! As soon as it arrived, I started using this packaging tape and the experience was MUCH IMPROVED. I've always liked Scotch-brand tape because it performs well and after using a different brand, I don't think I'll ever switch. I only had to tape the boxes along the seams once and I never felt like they would fall apart. Also, this version was much easier to unwind and tear than previous versions, so the upgrade is great! I will continue using this tape as I pack and once this roll runs out I will definitely purchase more!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this product to ship a box to a friend. It was a heavier quality tape that was easier to use than others I have used! I was able to find the end easier to get it started again and it tore easily. The only part was lifting it, it tore at the end and some got wasted but less than with other tapes. It was also quieter, which may sound weird but my son has some sensory issues and does not like the sound made by other tapes. I will definitely use again (I ship often!).
