[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this item for free in exchange for my review. This product does what it says. It comes with a tab at then beginning that you remove to start taping - I just left it hanging on the end and cut the tape where I needed it for my box. The tape left in the plastic holder hasn't gotten stuck back to the roll so I can't say much about whether or not it split. The best part for me is that unrolling the tape onto my box was almost completely silent - that awful sound that is synonymous with using packing tape wasn't there! All I could here was the sound of the roll unwinding in the holder. I probably wouldn't even have noticed that if I wasn't listening for a sound. Great product!

I bought a roll of this “easy to unwind” Scotch tape, hoping to avoid the continual battles with the regular tape being almost impossible to find the end to get started. This tape, although it has a gentler adhesive, is packaged so that the very thin and tight wrapping is almost impossible to find and get started. There are no indications or directions that this type is shrink wrapped with a very hard to see or feel cellophane wrapper. Took me many minutes of scratching and trying to guess how to get into the actual tape roll. Really nasty, and should have a starter flap that is easy to pull up and unwind the covering. Very, very frustrating. You’d think Scotch by now would have a handle on this, but not this time. The tape seems fine though

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] High quality packaging tape, the adhesive works great for many uses on a variety of surfaces. The sure start tab made it easy to begin using it without the usual struggle to find the beginning of the roll.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I volunteer to evaluate products for 3M, and recently received a free sample of Scotch packaging tape which I used to tape a label to and seal up a package being mailed from home. I found it difficult to start the roll and was unable to properly put the tape they it’s feeder. On the plus side the cutter was easy to use and cut the tape with no effort, there was also no splitting of the tape as I’ve experienced with other tapes I’ve used in the past and the tape stuck well to my package. I am also finding it easy to restart the tape for a second use. Regardless of the rough start, I would recommend this product as once you get it started all else is a cinch and works well

The sure start is true to it's word and as expected the tape has good sticking and staying power. You can always count on Scotch! Love the sure start, love that it's on it's own cutter/roller as well. Overall 10/10. Highly recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 3M provided this product free to me for review. The opinion is all mine. What a great tape & dispenser. Making shipping a breeze! It was so easy to start the roll and the tape glides off the roll super easy. The adhesive is very strong. It made packing up my book very quick and effortless and I'm confident the strong quality of the adhesive will keep my package well sealed.

I was also frustrated with this tape. Even though it says Shipping/Packaging tape, don't buy it (model 3450 tape) for paper or cardboard envelopes or boxes. It doesn't stay in place. It is very suitable to use on plastic packages. For boxes, use model 3650 tape (Long Lasting Storage Packing tape). The 3650 tape is much stickier and never falls off of boxes. My complaint to 3M is that they make many types of tape, and it's hard to tell which is suitable for which use. Even if you are just looking for packing tape.

I too have had strong faith is 3M products since that was pretty much the norm in our household since I was a child. I also use to work for a packaging company in Minnesota & I found they were extremally caring about how our packaging quality was. So I have been using their packaging tape for my shipments to customers for several years & this "sure start" is just horrible & doesn't stick to most cardboard boxes. I'm done as I don't have time to worry if my shipment is going to make it without loss. I don't know where it is made, but I hope you look into your quality control before everyone stops buying your products.

Not only do I use it to routinely ship packages in the mail but I also use it for various things about the house. My husband is a handyman...he uses this tape all the time too. It is definitely a preferred brand in our home.
