Good, but could be better...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, great picture and video quality. The notification and response time is very quick and I particularly like the ability to identify objects as well as facial recognition. What this doorbell camera lacks, though, is a more robust installation and use guide. While it does well on the basic nuts and bolts of installation, it lacks in explaining functionality. For example: In the process of installation, I didn't fully mount the unit because I wanted to test if it activated my wired doorbell first. It did not. Turns out, the unit needs to be mounted to it's metal backing plate before it will create a closed contact for the doorbell chime (possible internal magnetic switch). This caused a bit of frustration on my end. Additionally, there appears to be very little in the way of app user instructions. A more thoughtful and intuitive set of user instructions would go a long way. The only other drawback I see is- because the doorbell needs to have the metal backing plate to function. This creates a gap between the wall and the doorbell, and is exacerbated if you use the angle wedge for mounting. It doesn't really provide for a clean, aesthetically pleasing installation.
Solved my problem!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really hate the intrusion of the doorbell. It's such an invasion of my privacy, but I don't want to just ignore it. It could be really important! The battery operated Nest Doorbell is a lifesaver for me. I can see what's going on without actually going to the door, can respond without showing my face, and I can handle things even if I'm not at home. This is a real stress reliever for me and I feel more secure in my own home.
Great Camera Doorbell
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am late to the camera doorbell game as my house actually doesn't have a pre-wired doorbell, so I was pretty excited that Google/nest finally came out with a battery powered camera doorbell. Setup is pretty straight forward. You have to use the google home app, which I already had as I have the next thermostat and google Wi-Fi already. It pretty much walks you through step by step. Once setup and mounted, you're good to go. The battery is rated to last about 1.5-6 months depending on activity; I set mine up about 2 months ago and had to charge it already. It sends a push notification when the battery is low which is nice. Video and audio quality are both very good; you can also talk back to guests/visitors. When someone rings the doorbell, you get a push notification on the phone. If you have any of those google home speaker devices, a chime will play through those, but I don't have any so can't speak on that much. The only bummer about the device is video is only saved on the cloud for 3 hours. If you want a specific video you have to download it immediately or or sign up for the Nest Aware subscription. I also have Arlo wireless cameras and they offer unlimited video for up to a week before they auto delete the files from the cloud; it gives me plenty of time to view and save anything I want. It's quite a stark contract between the two brands. All in all, a very good product. Just wish they gave customers more free video time. But in terms of ease of setup, video quality, and now actually having a doorbell, I still recommend the product.
Very useful!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My mom has been shopping doorbell cameras for a long time. This baby is exactly what she's been hoping for. It was easy to install, easy to set up, and it works great. The battery life seems to be solid too, which is a huge plus.
Good Camera
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Nest Doorbell is small but packs a mighty punch with all of its features. Right out the pack the instructions are very clear. It only took 3 hours for the initial charge and I haven't needed to charge it again! The instillation did take about an hour as the app and syncing was a bit confusing. After I got over that hurdle things went very smoothly. The best feature of this doorbell is it gives you a few hours of free recording without needing any subscription plan. The video clarity is perfect and the night mode is just as clear as daytime. The doorbell is able to sense the difference between an animal or a person and that avoids notifications for every little movement. From my doorway the camera does not have that great of a width of view because I have a large porch. This camera would be better suited for an apartment or a house with a narrow entryway. The camera takes videos vertically so I am able to see any person at my door from head to toe. The response time from the doorbell to the app is really quick and since using the doorbell I have not missed a visitor or a package coming to my home.
2021 Top Ten Must Have items.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Nest Doorbell lets you see what's happening at your door and answer it from anywhere. It knows the difference between a person, package, vehicle, and animal, and alerts you when there's activity, so there's no guessing. Wire-free means installation is painless. You can put it at the vantage point that works best for your door. The Nest Doorbell is battery powered and wire-free, so it works with any door, whether you live in a house or an apartment. You can install it yourself. And it comes in a range of colors to make any doorstep more stylish. I love using my Nest Doorbell for my family. See clearly
A great way to see what's happening
I like this device because I can see what is happening when I'm not home. It's nice in that regard because I have a roommate who will sleep through anything except an attack by a Maine Coon who decides she must wake up! When someone rings the bell she sounds on the display near her room which is the second thing which will wake her up! Unfortunately not always because she mutes it! I have to call her to tell her people are at the door! I would love to set all the Google homes in my house to announce people at the door, but sadly that feature is missing from the app! Why? This is why I have it 4 stars! In order to setup all my Google homes to announce someone I had to delete and re-add the doorbell loosing all my history which is why I didn't do it.When you are not home you can talk to anyone who comes to your house. You can use this to see what is happening in front of your house. It's a great security camera! It's also great to talk to people and tell them where you are.
Simplest greatest product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Okay so coming from somewhere where there is already one installed in use when it came time for me to have my own for my own living space I was dreading it I thought it'd be so horrible to set up and install and all the programming and everything this Google nest doorbell is the simplest thing to install simplest thing to maintain simplest thing to use I just wish I would have done it a lot earlier I feel so much safer and to know that I've done it myself and I don't have to worry about anybody else knowing passwords or anything is phenomenal for me
Great picture quality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The best doorbell was super easy to install and gave me the perfect angle with the included wedge. Was quite impressed with crispness of picture on my phone even in the dark. I get a lot of packages and it's great that it notifies me when it senses activity.
Works Great!!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my battery powered Nest Doorbell around two weeks ago and it works great! The instructions were very clear, it was easy to install and only took around 5 minutes to completely set up. The best part about installation was, there are no wires. Since its battery powered it does need to be charged from time to time, but removal is simple and it doesn't take long to charge. The app used with this device is the Google Home app and the app is very convenient to have. I recieve notifications directly to my phone for people, vehicles, sound, the doorbell, seen and no longer seen packages and I can set it to recognize familiar faces. The best part about recordings and notifications is that I can set it to my own preference. No notifications for animals and insects, like my other cameras. The app also stores videos for easy playback and the audio and video are very clear, even at night! I can even talk with my guests through the nest doorbell, with two way audio. If I'm busy or not at home, I can send a quick reply straight to the doorbell. The only thing that could use some work would be the speaker on the doorbell itself. I have the volume all the way up, but the audio output is still pretty low. Besides that, it works perfectly!!
