While the exterior of the trash can remains pristine, the under side of the lid is rusting. I reached out via email to the manufacturer, Tramontina, several times over the past week. Their first response was a very genetic one, listing the various reasons why rust occurs: *trash can be located in a services area with higher humidity and lower frequency maintenance/disposalwaste is not taken out on a regular basis *waste touching the lid *lid not being wiped on a regular basis *gases produced by organic waste is corrosive therefore it can cause rust. They then asked how long ago I purchased it. Although I immediately replied, I have yet to hear back from the. I followed up with two emails.

I have purchased three of these. The can is fantastic except the foot-pedal. The foot pedal is a large plastic part that extends from the front to the back of the trash can. It has a pivot point so that force from your foot pressing down the pedal lifts the back rods. The rods are metal and the remaining plastic pieces do not receive much force so are simply perfect. But, the bottom petal at the point were it pivots is where it breaks. No reinforcement of plastic is done around the pivot point. A recent review photo shows the breakage. Most negative reviews are also of this problem. Where the metal force resistance rod moves through the plastic is the point of pivot. The company really needs to add additional plastic reinforcement (a thick plastic doughnut or washer should work) or better yet a metal cage to hold the weight through the pivot. It is a great trash can, but I need to move on. Replacing 3 is 1 too many for me. I don't want to contribute that much to the landfill and the cash from my pocket. I wouldn't mind buying one every 10 years or so, but 3 in 5 years is simply too many.

Interior trash receptacle is made of styrene plastic, not rubberized like most. Beware, if you leave this in a warm space, near any warm room whatsoever, it will begin to omit a toxic odor of styrene when opened, not the smell of the garbage deposited within. This is a glue like odor, and almost made me pass out and my eyes water. I am reporting it to the Consumer Protection Agency for review. This item perhaps should be recalled, and have the interior plastic receptacle replaced!

Packaging was fine but the can has a scratch on the lid and smudges on the lid that will not come off with microfiber. Packaging selected if a problem don't return to the store, contact them directly. I sent them an email. First response was we received your email. Then nothing.

This trash can was bought as a Christmas. I have one in my kitchen that I purchased about 4 years ago and I love it. The removable center helps to keep the can clean and it is very easy to empty. Plus point is that it looks very attractive and not really like a trash can.

Very nice looking, and I like the inside liner that you can take out and have nearby when you are preparing ingredients. However, the pedal does not last - it is plastic on the bottom of the unit, and it cracks. So the pedal is useless, you'll need to open the top yourself after a while. I contacted Tramontina a few months ago and they said they would get back to me. They did not.

This is my second Tramontina 13-Gallon Trash Can. The step for opening is very convenient and the automatic close secures the trash. The regular liners fit perfectly and facilitate easy removal of garbage for pick up. The variety of colors is a plus in matching kitchen appliances. or decor.

Nice size and elegant trash cN in the bronze. It has an inner trash can loner to pull out and keep bag on inside but I put mine old style way for first use. It was tight but worked. It looks elegant in my bronze accented kitchen. I am soooo glad I went ahead and brought this trash can. The price was more than I wanted to pay but much more reasonable than other trash cans made like this! Thanks

We use this trash can in the kitchen. Opening the lid with the foot pedal is really handy in the kitchen since there are a lot of times when you have both hands full and you need to dump something into the can. The previous can we had utilized a flip lid that constantly had to be cleaned due to food falling on top of it.

I bought this one as a gift, however have had the same one for 3 years now. The only thing I have to complain about is the inside of the lid has started to rust. Otherwise it’s solidly made, the lid-opening mechanism has held up well and the inner plastic trash receptacle is solid and well made. The holes in the bottom of it make it easy for the trash bag to completely open without having to “burp” the air out.
