Private Barrel

I recently acquired a bottle of an 8-year-old, private single barrel of Russell's Reserve. It has excellent depth of flavor including spice, oak, and some char. One of the best bottles I have in my collection when considering taste, quality and price.

Well rounded and perfect no matter how served

Have had Russell's as a staple in my home bourbon bar for years. Smooth to the palate, without a bite to it even at higher proofs. It's reasonably priced and not trying to gouge or overprice to the market as many others are doing, without real justification of product.

My Birthday Bourbon

I bought a store pick of the RR-SB a few months back and love the darker, richer flavors. I also get a kick out of knowing it was bottled on my birthday. Really worth the money. My store still has a bunch of bottles and I plan picking up a few more when I get my end of the year bonus.

The perfect bourbon

Russell Reserve Single Barrel used to be my special occasion bourbon or the one I would bring out to share with good friends and close family, but it’s just so good it’s sort of become my go to bourbon. I love the rich flavors of caramel, toffee and dark fruit. This is one bourbon that I always have a reserve on hand because I do not want to run out.

Every Bottle is Unique

Ive had more than a few of this particular offering and I'm impressed how the same mash bill can be a new experience almost every single time. I love the caramel notes up front and then here comes that cinnamon bomb i love so much. Finish up dried red apple and cut wood. What a ride these bottles give you.

Single Barrel Heaven

Started drinking this before I even tried the Rare Breed. I like both very much but the RR single barrel has a more unique flavor profile. Rich and spicy with just the right amount of sweetness. Also, very consistent and easy drinking at 110 proof. I’ve tasted some bottle variation over the years due to it being a single barrel product but nothing that stands out too much. The price has climbed up there but an overall an excellent Full flavored Bourbon for the money. Always have one of these open and a back-up bottle in the “Bat-Cave”.

Must have bottle

Review of Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon Let me tell you about Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon: this bottle is like the Swiss Army knife of bourbon—versatile, reliable, and it always gets the job done. You can sip it neat and feel fancy, throw it over ice and feel sophisticated, or—dare I say—mix it into a cocktail and create something so good it might just bring a tear to Jimmy Russell’s eye. At this price point, it’s almost criminal how good this bourbon is. Seriously, the flavor-to-dollar ratio is off the charts. And if you manage to snag a store pick? Forget about it—that’s like finding a rare Pokémon card in your booster pack. It’s rich, it’s bold, it’s got depth—but it’s also smooth enough to be an amazing gateway bourbon for anyone dipping their toes into the bourbon world. Yet, it’s complex enough to hold its own on the top shelf of a seasoned enthusiast’s collection. Bottom line: Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel isn’t just a bottle—it’s a must-have bourbon experience. Grab one (or two), and thank me later. Just don’t blame me if it becomes your new go-to.

One of my favorites!

Russell's Single Barrel has become a must-have on my shelf. I first opened a bottle to celebrate my birthday in July, but it quickly turned into one of my year-round favorites. If you come across it, don't hesitate to pick up a bottle—or even two. You’re sure to enjoy it!

Quality Exceeding the Price Tag

One of my liquor cabinet mainstays. I check for availability every time I visit a new liquor store and seldom pass on a store pick. Comparing the quality and flavor against the price makes it one of the best bangs for the buck. While I am sure it makes a great cocktail, you are missing out if you don't sip it straight up.

Great Single Barrel Expression

Drinks a little hot for the first few sips then mellows and you get the vanilla and brown sugar and finished with baking spice and oak. Being a single barrel every barrel will be different and that is the beauty of a single barrel program. The higher proof really brings out the flavors and leaves you with a warm Kentucky hug.
