Great air conditioner!!

Bought this a week ago for our 1000 sq ft cabin in Maine for the summer months. So happy that I did. Humidity was very high and would have been too uncomfortable to stay in cabin during day or sleep at night. Unit was easy to hook up and has cooled off the cabin. Highly recommend this unit.

Savior in this heat

This product works great. I bought this unit because I was worried about my old ground level central ac breaking down and since it gets cold in the fall I thought having the added heater wouldn't hurt when that time comes. My central ac did kick the bucket, but luckily this thing has been keeping me alive in all this heat while I wait to get my ac repaired. I use it mainly in my living room and its been a workhorse. It cools the room down really well and I can watch tv with it on no problem.

Works well in my basement.

I wish the drain was a little higher to facilitate a longer drain line.

Great Air Conditioner

Our portable air for the bedroom went out at the hottest time of the year. This was a lifesaver! My bedroom is now cool again. I hope it lasts a long time. I do not like the square connection for the hose, but it works. I wish it was not so expensive but I needed it to keep cool. I may need the heating part in the winter, we will see. I will update my review next summer.

Wish you could move it easier

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This ac unit is great for smaller spaces - we used it when we had an outage from the hurricane and hooked it it up to the generator- the. We used it in my bedroom to keep it extra cool. This is great when done with the hose to blow the hot air outside but I wish there was an option to allow it to be hooked up without needing to use the window so it can be easier moved around the house.

This would not even cool a 500sqft room let alone a 700. Airflow just blows all over out the top. It does evaporate, but after running a couple hours it cannot keep up with itself in cooling. Back vent hose is very stiff and hard to assemble, needed 2 people. Delivered upside down with no cardbord bottom. Box was very dirty. We have had 2 other units of this type (not Whirlpool) and had no problems. Also on the site it does not tell you, in the winter it must still be vented? So your heating a room with an open window vent.

Great cooling but very labor intensive

This item has been extremely labor intensive. First, despite being standard 110-volt AC, it drew so much power, I had to get an electrician to install a dedicated line (requires 12 amps with momentary 15 amp) because even with all other items on that line off, it still tripped the circuit breaker in less than 5 minutes. Second, the water capacity is too small and it shut itself off in less than 10 hours because it was full. Third, the drain is on the very bottom requiring me to elevate the entire thing to get a drain pan of sufficient shallow size to allow the water to gravity drain. Third, the drain doesn't have a plug, just a screw on cap. It starts leaking as you are unscrewing but you can't attach the drain hose (not included) until the cap is fully removed and now you have a watery mess underneath. Fourth, you have to constantly monitor the drain bucket or it will overflow and dump water all over your floor. If you leave the house, you must shut it off or it may overflow before you can return. If you decide to close the drain while gone, it requires re-installing the cap after removing the hose meaning once again draining all over until the cap is fully secured. I have another one of these from a different manufacturer which includes a plug inside the cap for a quick change when ready. This one needs one!!!

Poorly designed fake Whirlpool portable A/C

The Whirlpool 14.000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner REQUIRES A FLOOR DRAIN! It has a drain plug on the back side, at the bottom of the unit, just above the wheels. There is no bucket that can be emptied, like a dehumidifier. Even though this bears the Whirlpool logo, it is not Whirlpool. It is made by XPS Products, according to the manual. XPS claims that the drain is not required in the cool or heat function. I was told there is an evaporator in the condensation chamber that self evaporates. I was told the drain was only required in the DRY mode. It took two and a half hours on the phone with Sam's Club, to get a return scheduled. They claim it is not sold by Sam's Club, but a vendor!!!
