Great for a large amount of pictures

I recently came into several hundred family photos dating back to the 1920's. In order to easily share with other family members I decided to digitize the photos. This scanner makes it much easier to scan large numbers of pictures and organize them. It doesn't do well with pictures on stiff cardboard as many of the older photos were mounted, but it is easy to scan those on my other flat scanner.

Highly recommend.

I’m converting years of photos to digital. Quick learning curve- multiple settings. The “enhanced “ feature fixes faded photos, color correction, red eye, and even minor blurring. Includes options for setting up folders and naming them appropriately. The most time consuming part of my project was removing the photos from the albums! Highly recommend.

Good mechanically. Scan Quality not so much.

I bought this scanner because I thought it would save time. It doesn't really. I would buy a quality flatbed scanner that also does 35mm and medium format negatives if I could do it over. The machine feeds and scans reliably and the automatic image enhancement works well. However, you need to use the 1200dpi setting to reduce the amount of noise in the image. Even then, there is a lot of noise in the scan making a poor enlargement of a cropped image. A 3x5 inch JEG is 25MB so another photo processing program is needed to compress it to a reasonable size of 1 or 2MB. I use a freeware utility for this so Epson could have cheaply included this in their software. Even though this machine can feed photos very quickly, it can take a long-ish time for the software to process and save the results; about 15 minutes for a roll of 36 35mm photos on my 11 year old Centrino Duo laptop. A fast PC would probably perform much better. Not a big deal for me but Epson doesn't mention this additional processing time in their advertising. I was expecting the scanner to do this processing on the fly at this price point. Additional time is required for any post processing if you do the JPEG compression.

The scanner is a powerhouse.

I've had this less than a month, and have scanned in over 10,000 photos. A lot of the photos are old and faded. There are settings that upgrade the resolution and correct red eye. I chose the mid-level 600 dpi feature; the photos looked new. Organizing was very easy. I could lable groups; some of the groups were over 500 photos. The scanning went very fast based on the volume of photos I scanned. The scanner was well worth the money. I've raved about the Epon FastFoto to friends and family.

FastFoto 680

Recently purchased the Epsom FastFoto 680 to back up my home photos. Woe right out the box both the software and the scanner worked great. Now I did need sometime to become familiar with the software...but once I did that scanning my photos was a breeze. To be honest I was a bit leary about the price but once I used the scanner I was please about my purchase. Not disappointed!!

Good Scanner

The software can be a little challenging. It could be better to identify between documents and photos. Once you start scanning you will not be disappointed in the price.

Works great for photo project

Easy to use and works well for digitizing old photos! Very pleased with the design of the machine and app that goes with it. Great purchase! Newly bought, so hoping it will be durable too - will see when it’s had some wear and tear…

It's fast

The scanner is fast. Great for dealing with large numbers of photos. The auto software photo enhancements works great. Highly recommend if you have a few thousand or many thousands of photos to deal with.
