Great Handling for a Long Lasting Tire

My minivan has a history of going through tires quickly, even tires with long warranties. These Michelin Defenders are wearing very well and should go the distance. An unexpected benefit has been the great handling of the tires. They have really made my old van a pleasure to drive again, as the steering is more responsive and the van just feels more stable when turning.

Not All Weather

One of the selling points to this tire is they are "all weather" tires. These tires are good for areas that get NO snow or ice. The traction is poor even on wet roads. Dry road tires only. Do not buy these tires if you plan on driving in any weather.

LeSabre vibration

Stopped vibration on 2005 LeSabre. Excellent tires

Had a wave vibration on our 2005 LeSabre. Bought another brand of tires and had them balanced twice. Could not get rid of the vibration. Swapped the tires out for Michelin defenders and no more vibration. The car is perfectly smooth. Very happy w these tires.

Lasted Less than 4 Yrs/57k Miles

Great performance and traction, but they won't come close to lasting 90k miles. Michelin has stipulations for warranty claim like rotating tires every 6k - 8k miles regardless if the tire wear is even. My tires were wearing evenly, but I didn't have documentation that showed rotation every ~7k miles

Tire quality fades away after 40,000 miles

City commute, highway for short trips. Slow driving style, not a racer! NEW tires offer awesome grip and handling, cornering and braking are superb. Under light snow the tire performs great! However, past the 40,000 miles mark the performance IS GONE! In wet asphalt the tires spin and breaking distance increases noticeably. Thread depth disappears rapidly. Snow? Keep car at home I am certain I will need a new set long before the 90,000 miles warranty expires. Why would one manufacture a tire that loses performance at 40,000 miles and doesn't last beyond 60,000 miles, yet offer a 90,000 miles warranty? To me that is misleading information.

Excellent Tires-worth the money

I've been using michelin defenders about 5 years now. I drive my vehicle in all weather. In the rain it is excellent. In the ice and snow the handling is better than any other tire I've had. I've gotten a flat going 70 miles an hour and continue to drive for least 10 m and the tire did not break

Good replacement choice

I replaced the OEM tires on my 2011 Kia Optima at 36,000 miles. The defenders were far quieter, smoother and had better traction. I traded the car at 75,000 miles and the tires were less than half worn out. I plan on replacing the tires on my 2016 CRV with them when the OEM get worn out. Smoothest and best wearing tires I have ever had.

Disappointing

Why offering a 145,000 KM warranty when the tire thread went to 4/32 after only 55,000 km. The LX4 tire I had were had a life expectancy of 80,000 km and I have got 75,000 km before replacement, on the same Odyssey van, just in case anyone wonders about my driving habit. Sure, there is the warranty buy not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Michelin Defender Tires

Just repurchase another set of all weather Michelin Defender Tires. Drove 90,000 miles on them before the wear indicator became apparent. The Defenders are especially great in rain and snow for Braking, Traction and Steerability. I have them on two Toyota Prius so this is our third set, I have nothing bad to say about them.

Improved Ride & Stability

Although these tires are noisier than the original, I can't believe how much better the car seems to handle and the improved stability. With the original tires, our Sonata handled poorly on the highway and was terrible in the snow. The Defender tires track well on the highway & go through the snow without an issue.
