[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had patches near the driveway that needed to be repaired because of foot traffic. Scratched the ground just with a little rake and little effort, then applied this product. Worked very well and grass that came up produced a full lawn in the patches.

Awesome results

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Since getting our family dog Fozzy Bear, my yard has been a challenge. I purchased Scott's ez seed to fill in the bare spots. I like that it is easy to put down and germinates quickly. In no time, goodbye bare spots.

Not what was expected.

I didn't realize that they made a pet urine spot patch variation of EZ Seed before I tried this, but I'm not sure it would have made much of a difference. I decided to try the EZ Seed Jug 4 weeks ago when I took to repairing about 20 or so spots in the lawn. Some small, some large and some from urine. The larger ones even got a new layer of soil before the EZ Seed went down in the correct amount. Well after watering (which is cool to watch the mulch material expand the first time), and watering, and watering...well at about 2 weeks in I got germination. At 3 weeks I got what you would call baby grass. And at 4 weeks now, it still looks like short baby grass sprouting in seas of mulch. Not impressed. However that isn't even the most annoying part. It is the fact that while the fertilizer in the EZ Seed can't get the new grass to grow very well, the surrounding grass in the already existing turf went nuts. Super green and tall! END RESULT: Spots on the lawn that stick out like sore thumb since they are so green and tall compared to the rest. And when you get in close to those spots, you see a center to the spot that seems to be mostly brown mulch with sporadic new grass growth. Not something I would use again in this fashion.

Almost none of the seed germinated

I purchased a 3.75# canister of the EZ Grow tall fescue. The container said it could be used on up to 85 Sq. ft, so I cut that in about half and applied the entire canister. I'd loosened the soil and raked in some manure about 4 months before, and had watered it good several times. I raked furrows in the surface, applied the seed with a Scott's spreader, then covered the seed by using the back of the rake at 90 degrees from the furrows. I watered the area by hand twice a day for 2 months. About one sq. foot of grass came up. Over the course of the later summer and so far this spring, perhaps another sq. foot has come up. I could consider this product a total waste of time, effort, and money, and would absolutely never recommend it.

Short Term only

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I thought this product was magic. It grew and filled in the spots in the lawn within a week. Two issues with the grass moving forward. The grass didnt match up at all texture wise or color wise. None of the grass survived the winter either and all my bare spots were back come spring.

Terrible results with this product

I bought this product to patch the bare spots in my lawn. I raked the spots prior to putting the seed down. I then covered the spots with burlap and watered it twice a day. To date after 10 days. Not a bit of growth. I can’t recommend this product and very disappointed. Looks like I need to search for another brand that will actually grow grass.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts EZ Seed Patch & Repair Tall Fescue Lawns and appreciate your feedback. For best results, this product should be applied when daytime temperatures are consistently in the 65℉ range for cool season grasses and in the 85℉ range for warm season grasses: the warmer the soil, the faster the germination. Cool or fluctuating nighttime temperatures will slow germination. We recommend watering 1-2 times per day to keep the seeds moist until they germinate and then 1" to 1-1/2" per week as needed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit germination. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Growing time is outstanding.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I always look for product that I can use to do patch work in the spring in Minnesota and winter can tear up a lawn and I found by far this to be one of the best out there and there is alot of products of this nature on the market. It will hold the water for a good amount of time too I know alot of the same type of repair systems will dry out and nothing grows and you have to start all over again. Its a great product and I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good product for patch work in the spring or anytime. John West St Paul MN

Very Poor Performance

I used this product in a very small area, approximately 8' x 12', and used premium top soil about 4" think. Kept it watered according to instuctions and nothing grew. Waited for over 3 weeks and ended up getting ordinary grass seed, Perrinal Rye Grass, and within 10 days of reseeding had perfect grass. This product does not work and is extremely expensive for what you get.

We are sorry for the disappointment you have experienced with the results of your recent seeding effort. We would like to offer a few tips that may be helpful to you in future seeding endeavors. As with any seed product, ScottsEZ Seed Dog Spot Repair Mix Sun & Shade requires both continuous moisture and warm soil temperatures. When one of these conditions is missing, poor germination is the result. Be sure to spread the EZ Seed Dog Spot Repair Mix Sun & Shade evenly over the prepared area. EZ Seed Dog Spot Repair Mix Sun & Shade should be sparsely applied to the depth of about 1/16" to 1/8" thick. If EZ Seed Dog Spot Repair Mix Sun & Shade has been applied too thickly, germination will be poor. Also, make sure that no weed control or weed prevention product has been used where you are seeding, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination of the seed. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass. I hope these extra tips are helpful. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done.
