Nothing but Weeds! Literally!!!
I never write reviews and this was warranted: I bought over 100$ worth of product to seed a 20' by 20' area and with in 3 weeks my yard was 100% covered from edge to edge in nothing but weeds. I'd say less than 1% was actually grass seed. I tried watering what my previous yard was for a month or two and sure I had a few weeds here and there but I would pick them by hand on the weekends and nothing really grew in so I decided to reseed. Once I put the seed down everything grew just fine but it was ALL WEEDS. My neighbor bought the same bags from the same store and he had the exact same results. It's clear that it came from the see because of how patchy it is and there are no weeds where I didn't lay down seed. At a loss for how terrible this product is.
We apologize that you have been disappointed by the appearance of weeds in your newly seeded areas. Our seeds are guaranteed to be 99.9% weed free. Weed seeds are exposed when the soil is turned and will germinate right along with the new seed. Weed seeds may also be introduced to the area through the addition of topsoil or straw. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. un-uniform growth
seems to work okay on small spots. Doesn't seem to work well on larger areas(3' x 4'). Thought maybe 1st container was an issue. 2nd container not much better(purchased from different vendor). Sparse growth. Even some small spots not germinating. Similar problems with this product last year. Old fashion seeding with seed, peat moss, etc. works the best.
We are sorry that you experienced somewhat lacking results inyour recent seeding effort. We'd like to offer a few tips that may be helpful to you in future seeding endeavors. Scotts EZ Seed requires both continuous moisture and warm soil temperatures. When one of these conditions is missing, poor germination is the result. You also must be sure to spread the EZ Seed Sun & Shade evenly over the prepared area. The seed should be sparsely applied to the depth of about 1/16" to 1/8" thick. If the product has been applied too thickly, germination will be poor. Temperature plays an important role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures for this particular product must be at least 55° F for the seed to germinate. For best results, daytime temperatures must typically be in the 60-80°F. range and not going below 50°F at night. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures. We hope these extra tips are helpful. We want you to be confident in our products, this is why we offer a product guarantee. If you would like to further discuss this, please contact us here: http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5
Don't buy it.
If you have nice green manicured grass, don't use this product to fill in bare spots. The blades of grass are wide and light green, it looks like weeds. This might be good for erosion control or somewhere you don't care what it looks like. I used it in front of my house around a tree. It did grow, but it is ugly grass. I'll be spraying that whole area with Roundup towards the end of the summer and starting over with better seed in the fall.
We apologize that you were not thoroughly satisfied with Scotts EZ Seed patch and Repair Sun and Shade Mix. When grass is newly germinated it is immature and will have a different color and texture than established grass. Regular mowing and fertilizing should help it mature to its proper color and texture. Your feedback is important to us, and we will pass this on to our Quality Assurance Team. We would be interested in discussing this further so that we can learn more about this issue and extend our product guarantee. At your earliest convenience, please contact us to see what can be done. Works as expected.
Had some small spots that did not grow, but overall product worked well and as advertised. Be careful of slopped areas as I have found after heavy rain or over watering you will have the product run off and clump. I have spread it out again gently and it still worked. Overall satisfied with product.
GREAT EASY TO USE PRODUCT
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] used this to fill some bare spots from last summer. Put it down late fall but with the warm wet winter in nj the product did start to grow. The water absorption additive makes it a simple process with minimal watering.
Great for Patching
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This stuff grows almost anywhere. I find it will even grow in patches where I have spread crabgrass preventer. While it minimizes water needs over other products, I still recommend some light water every day, esp in windy or hot conditions. It is a little expensive, so it is not a great value for large areas.
Amazing features and delivers fantastic results
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used Scotts® EZ Seed® Patch & Repair Sun and Shade in some bare spots caused by last summers drought and was thrilled with the results and ease of using this product. My lawn has never looked better and I used the seed in both shady and sunny areas of the yard and it works fantastic in both areas I definitely will use this product again if needed.
Great if you want a patch of weeds.
I purchased this product along with Turf Builder 1.5 cu. ft. Lawn Soil to fill in a bare patch in my lawn. The grass began to grow in nicely and I was really very happy. I came out one morning to water the grass and the ENTIRE patch had been taken over by one type of weed. This weed isn't present anywhere else in my yard (or my neighbors' yards, I checked). I wanted to test and make sure that it really was the fault of these products so I used both the EZ Seed and the LawnSoil to grow a patch of grass in a container. The grass began to grow and then the entire container was taken over by the same weed. My lawn is far from perfect. You can see that by looking at the photo I've uploaded with this review. I have dandelions and thistle and a few other kinds of weeds as well. But this was supposed to be a step towards fixing the lawn and instead it just introduced another weed into the mix. In the photo you can see EXACTLY where the grass seed was planted because it's EXACTLY the same area as the patch of weeds. I planned on seeding the other area of bare soil in the photo at the same time as this patch but I'm glad I didn't waste my time. What a huge waste of money and all the time and effort I put into preparing the bare patch of my lawn for seeding. I have to start over from scratch and I won't be using ANY Scotts products this time around.

Easy to apply
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used Scotts® EZ Seed® Patch & Repair Tall Fescue to repair the yellow spots my dog had created in my yard. It was extremely easy to use and I am very pleased that the grass grew in quickly and fully.
