Perfect for lawn repair!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this product in early Spring and immediately used it to repair a problem area caused by our Polar Vortex Winter. Happy to say I have a great coverage of grass growing now! If only this came in a 55 gallon drum.

Tis works fairly well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Even though it says Sun and Shade it has only been partially effective in the sunny areas. We do live in the desert area and the sun is quite strong - so it might be more difficult here. We used it and MOST of it took - there are still some patches where it seems we will never be able to cover..... The product worked well for the majority of the places....

Does Not Work

Bought the 10 lb. bag of Scotts ez seed tall fescue lawns. Applied it per the directions in several bare spots in our yard due to various projects. It did not come up in any of the areas applied. All of them were full sun to partial shade areas. It has been a very rainy season here and I watered the seeds. After a couple of weeks went by I re-seeded again with Scotts and watered and waited but again nothing grew in any of the areas. On the third try I prepared the soil again and applied some cheap grass seeds I had left over from a couple of years ago and within a week I had grass coming up. I have no idea what happened to my bag of Scotts but I will not buy this product again.

Works about 75% of the time - Overall a decent buy

I had a lot of small patches (less than 6” diameter) and some bigger ones. This product worked pretty well on the smaller bare areas and less well on the bigger ones. One of the bigger patches came in nicely (after several applications), two other ones came in pretty poorly. Overall this is a much better product than PatchMaster. What I found is that I ended up applying EZ Seed a few times to the same area. This helped tremendously but as mentioned a couple of spots would not take no matter what I did. Overall the product is good for filling in smaller bare spots and not so good for say a 12” or bigger bare spots. Also, I suggest you apply this as early as possible to give the grass a chance to get stronger prior to winter.

it really did not perform as I expected from a Scott's product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had some ruts in my lawn caused by voles. I dug them out, put down some Scott's Lawn Topsoil and then mixed in a $30 bag of EZ Seed. Two weeks later and all I have are ruts with dirt and seed in them; zero grass growth. Don't waste your time or money on this product. Go with traditional seed because then if it doesn't take at least you don't feel as if you were robbed.

Be sure to spread the EZ Seed Sun & Shade evenly over the prepared area. Do not mix it into the soil. EZ Seed Sun & Shade should be sparsely applied to the depth of about 1/16" to 1/8" thick. If EZ Seed Sun & Shade has been applied too thickly, germination will be poor. Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55° F for seed to germinate. For best results, daytime temperatures must typically be in the 60-80°F. range and not going below 50°F at night. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low nighttime temperatures. The best time to seed cool season grasses is early to mid-fall. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. This product was so, so.

Used this product a few years ago and had the same problem. Finally went to regular seeds out of a bag. Patched up a few spots with it this year and did what they said to do. Still waiting for signs of grass popping up and I have an irrigation system.....the rest of my lawn looks wonderful.

We apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced when using the product. This particular product usually has a lot of success stories from users, but it is helpful when we get reviews like yours to help us produce quality product. For Cool Season grasses like Bluegrass, Ryegrass, and different types of Fescues soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees (+12.7 Celsius) for grass seed to germinate and can take between 4 -21 days to see germination. Warm season grasses like Bermudagrass, Centipede and Zoysia, which germinates in early summer, requires soil temperatures between 75 - 90 degrees (24 - 32 Celsius) and can take between 5-28 days to see visible germination. Watering also plays a defining factor in germination. We recommend watering 1-2 times a day until germination is visible and then watering 1- 1 ½” per week as needed. Both excessive watering and not enough watering can slow down or even stop germination of the product. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5 and one of our representatives would be glad to assist you. We hope this issue has not caused you to lose faith in our product, as we use reviews like yours to maintain and improve the quality product that you and other consumers have come to know and love.

EZ Seed is working

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] EZ Seed is working in a area that is hard to grow grass. We spread the seed mid October and the new grass is starting to grow now in November. Hopefully is spring here in Michigan the grass will be thicker.

Ez seed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is very easy to use to make sure you succeed at growing grass in areas where it's hard to grow. If you follow the directions you will succeed in filling in bare spots . The product almost works by itself.

It works - if you use it correctly.

We flip houses, and I always use Scotts products to revive the lawns quickly (and have no complaints), but I had never used the EZ seed. I created two test spots for this product before I applied it all over; one spot in my front yard (in a sunny location), and one in the back (in a shady location). I raked all loose grass or leftover/dead leaves from fall, sprinkled a very small amount of soil, about 1 cup in each 1 sqft. area, applied the grass seed, and watered. We did get rain the day after I seeded, and I then watered daily for 3 days. On day 5, I had grass!! And today, which is day 10, my entire patches are covered in grass shoots. I imagine in a few more days, my bare test spots will be completely covered in grass!!
