Very disappointing

I purchased a 20lb bag of this seed despite a lot of bad reviews. I've learned my lesson. Despite plenty of water, warm temperatures, and over 6 weeks of waiting, I don't think we've seen a single blade of grass sprout! Somehow I let myself get convinced by the "grows anywhere" advertisement. Scott's has usually been pretty reliable for us in the past but this was my first #and last# experience with EZ seed. I'll go back to using regular seed with lawn-starter mulch. It worked well for us last year, but I had decided to try a one-step approach this time, despite the very high pricetag. I'm just glad they have a guarantee. Now I just have to figure out how to make a claim...

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts EZ Seed Sun & Shade. Generally, we recommend seeding in late spring when temperatures are warm not only during the day, but at night also. Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures for northern (cool season) type turfgrass seed (Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass, and fescue) must be at least 55 degrees F for seed to germinate. For best results, daytime temperatures must typically be in the 60-80 degree F. range and not going below 50 degrees F at night. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures. The best time to seed cool season grasses is early to mid-fall. One major "enemy" of a newly seeded lawn is herbicide. Make sure that no weed control or weed prevention product has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. Grows Fast and Looks Perfect

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I put this down on the area my dog used as his preferred bathroom. I watered it once a day and in 10 days I have pics that show how nice this filled in. Again, this is a 10 day later pic! Simply great seed that fills in perfectly with my lawn in west central Ohio.

Not so great.

This product did not live up to my expectations or it's claims. I used it, about a month ago, to patch several bare spots in my lawn and only a couple of the spots have any grass growing in them and they are pretty thin. I am in east Tennessee and have the usual "red clay soil" in this area. I have had better luck with bare spots that I have patched myself with seperate seed, mulch and fertilizer. I was disappointed with this product.

the grass that i got to grow was great, but the weeds.

i completely re did my whole lawn. i killed all of the old grass. i used 2 -3 inches of the best soil i could buy. Grass came in and was gorgeous. But the weeds that grew with the grass. Also amazing. I've never seen weeds like these. They looked alot like crab grass. The gras would grow many sprouts from one roots. But would grow to the size of a dinner plate. There was so many. I could not control them. I had to round up the whole area killing everything including the grass. I also had these weeds grow that looked like little trees that would grow about 3 inches tall but spread wide like plague. I've never seen anything like it. Everywhere. So i started from scratch. New seed. Grew in well. But once again. These dang weeds grew again. With a vengeance. 2 years of trying to get this right. I'm so frustrated

It does not last!

I bought this a few months ago. I used it on a 6 x 10 ft area. After about 2 weeks it started to grow. Then after about 5 weeks the entire area was a full lush green lawn. Now here I am about 13 weeks later and it's all starting to die. I water my lawn pretty regularly. The rest of my lawn looks great. But this one 6 x 10 ft patch that I used this product on is all dying away and there is nothing I can do to prevent it. What a waste of money. And the seeds are not cheap.

We are sorry that you experienced problems while using Scotts EZ Seed Sun & Shade. Once they start growing, grass seedlings may succumb to environmental factors such as disease, insects, or extremes of temperature and moisture. This is not necessarily evidence of inferior grass seed, as even superior grass types are subject to natural stresses. Maintaining constant soil moisture is the most critical factor in the success of a new seeding, both before and after germination. Even though the seed germinated, the soil may have dried out for a short time after it was up and growing. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please contact us to see what can be done. Excellent and easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have tried this product in the past and have had good success. This Spring I got it out on the lawn in late March and it has started growing and becoming pretty thick in a hurry. The product is easy to spread and when watered, it does thicken and absorb the water to allow for excellent germination. Highly recommend it!

it really did not perform as I expected from a Scott's product

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had some ruts in my lawn caused by voles. I dug them out, put down some Scott's Lawn Topsoil and then mixed in a $30 bag of EZ Seed. Two weeks later and all I have are ruts with dirt and seed in them; zero grass growth. Don't waste your time or money on this product. Go with traditional seed because then if it doesn't take at least you don't feel as if you were robbed.

Be sure to spread the EZ Seed Sun & Shade evenly over the prepared area. Do not mix it into the soil. EZ Seed Sun & Shade should be sparsely applied to the depth of about 1/16" to 1/8" thick. If EZ Seed Sun & Shade has been applied too thickly, germination will be poor. Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55° F for seed to germinate. For best results, daytime temperatures must typically be in the 60-80°F. range and not going below 50°F at night. Stubborn bald area now green!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have this stubborn area in my lawn with hard compacted soil, I loosened the soil and used EZ Seed and now I have grass. It took about 7 days for the grass to germinate. The EZ seed product was easy to use and stays in place when you water it, which to me was the key to success.

GREAT EASY TO USE PRODUCT

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] used this to fill some bare spots from last summer. Put it down late fall but with the warm wet winter in nj the product did start to grow. The water absorption additive makes it a simple process with minimal watering.
