I like reading reviews but you never know if they are legit or not. 2 reviews for this and I was very unsure about buying. That said; buying and returning to Sam's is an easy thing to do if I wasn't happy with it.
Also I knew I could get an extended warranty from Square Trade at the time of purchase and being a Plus Member you get a free extension on top of that.
I was in dire need of a new String Trimmer as my old faithful finally succumbed to the evil ethanol fuel and I didn't feel like rebuilding it again.
I searched high and low, waited for a sale, and still couldn't find anything that was comparable to what I had before which was 32cc and a beast, for under $250 or more like 3-350.
So I saw this unit on sale and decided with all the above in mind, to give it a try.
I'm glad that I did, keeping in mind that this is only day one.
While the directions aren't very good for assembly it's pretty self-explanatory looking at the many pictures that they have, basically insert part A into slot B, tighten it down and put the handle and string guard on. Assembly took me about 10 minutes.
The trimmer comes with a bottle of Ready Mix that you add to a gallon of gasoline and a full spool of .095 cutting line.
Directions for starting are both in the manual and written on the side of the engine & anybody who has ever started a two-cycle will be familiar!
My unit started flawlessly and ran well right from the start.
Wow I did not expect much considering this is 7 CC's less than my previous unit, that said, the Black Max had absolutely no issues powering through the thickest of weeds!
It is well balanced and not heavy, just right.
The Box mentioned that it has a commercial engine on it but doesn't really go into any detail on what that means. I do see where it says the crankshaft is heavier duty but I would expect it probably has a sleeved cylinder and cast iron crank. However I rarely see an engine failure as long as you use the proper mix. More often is because of the Ethanol in the fuel.
I would recommend getting some Marine Sta-Bil and not storing it with fuel in it for a longer life.
Personally I've been a homeowner for 30 years, do all of my own maintenance on my equipment and have worked on everything from the smallest 2 cycle to a Jet Engine.
Property is about 2 acres.
Trimming time was no more, to actually less than my usual time since the machine started and ran without any issues. Something I could no longer day about old faithful.
I hope that this helps others decide whether or not to buy.
As for day one @ about an hour of use, the machine was flawless in operation. But I realize that that's not much of a time frame to tell anything.
I will update this post after I I've used it more.
So far I'm happy.
