A very capable professional level tool

I bought my first one a few months ago after using Echo brand for years. I have been very happy with my purchase . Both the trimmer and edger work very well. I liked it so much I bought a second one for future use that I haven’t even taken out of the box yet. Best value for this type tool that I have found.

Great product

My daughter bought one two years ago that I kept borrowing. Finally decided to get one of my own. Ordered online and it was delivered within 2 days. Great service.

Great Value

Bought this item since it combined the trimmer/edger features. It was a great value for them both. It is easy to switch between the two and sufficient power for what in need in my yard. Great buy.

Only 2 reviews so far made me reluctant to buy.

I like reading reviews but you never know if they are legit or not. 2 reviews for this and I was very unsure about buying. That said; buying and returning to Sam's is an easy thing to do if I wasn't happy with it. Also I knew I could get an extended warranty from Square Trade at the time of purchase and being a Plus Member you get a free extension on top of that. I was in dire need of a new String Trimmer as my old faithful finally succumbed to the evil ethanol fuel and I didn't feel like rebuilding it again. I searched high and low, waited for a sale, and still couldn't find anything that was comparable to what I had before which was 32cc and a beast, for under $250 or more like 3-350. So I saw this unit on sale and decided with all the above in mind, to give it a try. I'm glad that I did, keeping in mind that this is only day one. While the directions aren't very good for assembly it's pretty self-explanatory looking at the many pictures that they have, basically insert part A into slot B, tighten it down and put the handle and string guard on. Assembly took me about 10 minutes. The trimmer comes with a bottle of Ready Mix that you add to a gallon of gasoline and a full spool of .095 cutting line. Directions for starting are both in the manual and written on the side of the engine & anybody who has ever started a two-cycle will be familiar! My unit started flawlessly and ran well right from the start. Wow I did not expect much considering this is 7 CC's less than my previous unit, that said, the Black Max had absolutely no issues powering through the thickest of weeds! It is well balanced and not heavy, just right. The Box mentioned that it has a commercial engine on it but doesn't really go into any detail on what that means. I do see where it says the crankshaft is heavier duty but I would expect it probably has a sleeved cylinder and cast iron crank. However I rarely see an engine failure as long as you use the proper mix. More often is because of the Ethanol in the fuel. I would recommend getting some Marine Sta-Bil and not storing it with fuel in it for a longer life. Personally I've been a homeowner for 30 years, do all of my own maintenance on my equipment and have worked on everything from the smallest 2 cycle to a Jet Engine. Property is about 2 acres. Trimming time was no more, to actually less than my usual time since the machine started and ran without any issues. Something I could no longer day about old faithful. I hope that this helps others decide whether or not to buy. As for day one @ about an hour of use, the machine was flawless in operation. But I realize that that's not much of a time frame to tell anything. I will update this post after I I've used it more. So far I'm happy.

Waco’s Weeds & Edges the Lawn!

Purchased a week ago, used it for the first time yesterday on 2.3 acres. New home and the the lawn hadn’t been edged in years. Was tough to get through the first edging, but now that I have a good edge the upkeep will be a breeze! Many trees on the property and lots of grass had not been trimmed out for years. The string ate right through the heavy mat no problem without bogging down. Glad the tool came with a full spool. I used it up the first day. Luckily I got 95% of the way through the property. Already ordered up string before I got started knowing I would use it up. The unit is solid, easy to assemble and has plenty of power to manage the acreage. Good purchase and I recommend it for light to medium work for residential or commercial work. Feels sturdy enough to hold up for years! Trust me, it’ll get a good workout with me!

Happy with this purchase

Have used trimmer and edger attachments several times. Easy to switch attachments. Easy start motor. Only issue is the edger guide plate. There is a silver metal guide plate on the edger attachment. Only thing, regardless of which depth setting you place the wheel/guide plate, the guide plate sticks down too far and makes it difficult to push the edger along the cutting path. I took a drimmel metal cutting wheel and cut off the guide plate. Now the edger glides easily on the wheel and smooth sailing. Without the guide plate its easy to manually guide the edger along the path next to my concrete walk. The guide plate may be an effort to meet some crazy safety regulation but it then makes it more difficult to edge. As recommended, I always wear safety goggles with this tool. Anyway, problem solved for me and I am enjoying my new trimmer/edger combo.

Not the best

I have owned this weed-eater for one lawn season. I am a college student and have a few lawn customers. What I can say about it so far is that it is not a commercial machine. I can’t tell you how many times I have had to sit there and pull the string 100 times before it starts sometimes. I have replaced the spark plugs and even took the carb apart to make sure it was clean and adjusted right. After cutting one lawn for the day after it’s hot it doesn’t like to start again until it is cooled down. The head on it is garbage if you buy it first thing you need to do is go buy a echo speed feed head. But all in all when it runs it’s been a good machine i find it a little too week while edging and always hogs down. It has lasted longer than I thought it would though. I would not buy this weed-eater again. If you are in the market go with echo hands down far better machine the one I bought recently runs circles around this one and it has a bigger motor and is lighter. I have put many hours on this machine and it has paid for itself. All I can say is you get what you pay for and echo is the way to go. And by the way I use non-ethanol fuel in all my machines so there is no reason for it to have the problems with running stated above.
