Great Starter Coop for First-Time Chicken Owners

We're honestly really happy with this coop. The instructions were pretty straightforward, but having two people definitely made the process way easier. My wife and I worked on this together and we're still together ……so thats a positive. Since we're new to this, it felt like a really good starter coop—not too complicated or overwhelming. Overall, we'd definitely recommend it if you're just getting into raising chickens.

perfect for the price.

The Santa Maria / Argentinean Grill is absolutely fantastic. Hits the sweet spot on price vs Quality just right. The lower priced ones I research seemed to be of lower quality and the more expensive ones just seem overpriced. The grill is well built of solid materials. This should last a very long time. So much fun to grill on. CW

The real deal

This was our first chicken coop, and we couldn't be happier. It was super easy to put together, and everything fit together smoothly. Most importantly, our chickens took to it right away and seem really comfortable and happy. Great quality and a great experience overall—highly recommend!

Exceeded expectations

I searched for a Santa Maria for a while and was between this one and another one that was twice as expensive. I ended up getting this one and just put it together today. First, with something this large I was expecting to have to drill something out, look for extra bolts/ parts and have to wait to use it. Everything was there and it all bolted right together. I put it together by myself and it took a total of three hours with a few break worked in. The quality of the grill, the metal, and wood exceeded my expectations. Going to fire it up for the first time tomorrow and can't wait to use it.

Secure & great looking!

After buying & reselling another less secure coop, I'm happy I decided to go with the Sweetwater one. Not only is this coop great looking, it's extra secure & has kept out a raccoon visitor. In fact, after 3 late night visits, the seems to have given up & hasn't returned. This coop is the perfect size for my suburban backyard & fits my 5 young hens perfectly.

Taking Open Fire Cooking To Next Level

I purchased the Premium Argentine/Santa Maria BBQ Grill after completing a 7-Day Open Fire Cooking Challenge. During that challenge, I quickly discovered that my existing grill was not designed to handle burning wood as a primary cooking fuel. It worked fine for charcoal, but once I started exploring open-fire cooking, I needed something built for both wood and charcoal. After researching different options, I decided on the BackYard Discovery Premium Argentine/Santa Maria Grill, and so far, it has been exactly what I was looking for. The adjustable grill grate makes it easy to control cooking temperatures, whether I'm using hardwood logs or charcoal. The ability to raise and lower the cooking surface is a game changer when cooking over live fire. As a prepper, versatility is important to me. I wanted a grill that could function whether I had charcoal available or needed to cook with wood during emergency or do water bath canning. This grill gives me that flexibility while also producing excellent flavor that you simply can't get from a standard gas grill. The construction feels solid and designed for the type of high-heat cooking that comes with burning wood. Unlike my previous grill, I'm not worried about damaging it during long cooks over a wood fire. If you're interested in open-fire cooking, backyard BBQ, homesteading, or preparedness, I think this style of grill is worth considering. It bridges the gap between traditional grilling and true live-fire cooking. I also shared my full thoughts and experience with this grill on my YouTube channel, Boujé Prepper, where I did an update video of why we upgraded to this grill, and how it fits into my preparedness and outdoor cooking goals. If you're serious about live-fire cooking and want the flexibility to cook with either wood or charcoal, the Premium Argentine/Santa Maria BBQ Grill is a worthwhile investment.

Nice coop but value for size is questionable

After LOTS of research I settled on this for our first chicken coop. It is a nice step up from the TSC coops while still being an all-in-one kit--it is sturdy and should last a long time, plus it looks great in the backyard. That said, there are a few things keeping it from being 5-stars. I am not sure it is a good value for the money due to the size--this is for 4 chickens max and they will need free range time or an additional run. Assembly took basically two full days, with two adults with power tools (one of which is very handy). It would have been great if parts had been packed in order but there was no rhyme or reason and lots of time was spent just searching though everything. The manual wasn't always clear and there were a few times things were just trial and error due to unclear instructions. We hit some typical problems with holes not lining up and wood splitting in places, as is common with this type of prefab product. As for the design itself, it would be great if the run was full height and longer, and the door was wider for easier cleaning access. Another roosting bar would be nice. Overall I just wish it, particularly the run, was bigger, and if I had it to do over again, I'd order the larger model that unfortunately wasn't available when I purchased this one. I am hopeful one day they will add a kit to add on to the run! Ultimately I am not sure the value is worth the cost, but we will see in a few years.

Great grill and excellent quality

Update to my previous review.. So far, the only thing that I would say is negative about the grill is the firebox. It would be very helpful if there was some sort of hinged door to allow it to be opened and closed on the front of the firebox. I have had some hot embers and coals fall out of the front of the firebox during the cooking process. I feel that it would be an easy fix to have a steel door that would latch in place to keep this from happening.

I Do Recommend!

This chicken coop was really simple to put together, but you definitely need two people and a drill gun. Took a weekend to do but the instructions were pretty simple. Rubber mats are awesome because they make cleaning way easier. Overall a great first coop and definitely cute!
