A little Rough out the box but appears to work

Got this and noticed that the box was damaged. Opened it up, and the two silica packs had burst open and there were silica balls embedded throughout the cardboard box. There were dings in the frame, and the cover of the alternator was dinged. Also the battery box was bent so the battery doesn't sit flush. It's a generator, not a beauty pageant contestant, so as long as it works no big issue. Getting the wheels and feet on was pretty easy. I try to pull the spark plug out with the wrench attached, so that could begin the break in process and the plug is not moving! Eventually the plug ends up getting stuck into the wrench, because The plug is in so tight, and the wrench is so cheap that it actually embeds itself into the sides of the wrench as the wrench twisted around it. I have to get the standard wrench that you see in hardware stores, and its not moving it as well. In fact the handle on that wrench actually bends, from trying to turn it. Eventually I get the plug out (probably after the oil penetrant I sprayed soaked through) and the plug is wedged into the wrench, So I have to beat that out from the wrench and chip a bit of the non sparking end in the process. But now that the plug is out, i can begin the break in process. Once I finally get everything oiled up & fueled up. It starts very easily. Both on the electric start and the pull start. And seemed to run with no problems, and at a decent noise level, even with a load on it. So while I spent way too much time, fighting with a spark plug, and on principle, I'd like to have it show up to my house ding free, at the end of the day it seems to do its job. Also it is a fairly manageable weight for the power that it can put out.

Remote Start

Bought this over a month ago and use it daily. We went away for a weekend and didn't use it with us but when we came back the generator wouldn't start. It required us to use another generator to charge the battery for it to start. (Battery drained with no use.) The remote start is convenient but you still have to charge the remote as it does die quickly. Guzzles a lot of gas and idles high. I don't recommend this generator.

Hi Kaye, thank you for your purchase, we are happy to hear that you have gotten continuous use of the generator. Unfortunately, in order to use the remote start feature the battery must be somewhat charged and if the generator has not been on in a bit, then the battery will be drained. Since traditional generator are not smart in the sense that they will have a low idle, we recommend that you get an inverter generator that will be more fuel efficient, have the lowest noise, and have a lower idle than a traditional portable generator. Thank you for your feedback, we hope that you are able to get the product that fits your needs the best! Thank you, Zach - Westinghouse

Generator 5300sc

Generator was delivered without any damage. Unboxing and set up took about thirty minutes. The electric start feature is the reason I purchased this unit and so far it has worked fine. Haven't had any issues while using the generator and it powers everything that I need it for without any problems.

Good Value - Damaged When Shipped

Great unit able to power most of my house when we loose power. We use our generators a lot since we live in the woods. Unit works well and is fuel efficient. My only complaint about the unit itself is that the oil dip stick is in a strange spot and makes it a bit tricky to fill the oil without making a mess. Unit was damaged with it being shipped, but will works as it should (for now). 5 year warranty helps ease my worries.

Can a generator be beautiful?

Now, I'm can only cover aspects up to running, as I have not yet fired it up. So please take that into consideration. The packaging was much better than I had heard of in other reviews. This had ZERO marks, scratches, dings, or missing parts! Everything was there. Putting on wheels and baby buggy bumpers was not a problem at all and they even included a #10 open face wrench. Handle pulled right up and structure is well made tubing. Ironically, the wheels have bearings in them! That amazes me. It came with spark plug wrench, #10 metric wrench, manuals, warranty....3 YEAR! and oil as well as funnel were both included. Battery connections were a plug-in type that couldn't get crossed. The ground needed tightening, so check BOTH! On a side note; the manual is well written, which I find surprising in today's world. Do READ the warnings!!! Can't stress enough, this is not plug and play; its electricity! Things like grounding, wire gauge, not having things plugged in BEFORE firing up, noting LOAD balancing, all very critical to a long life for your equipment.

Portable generator

I recently purchased this generator after reading some of the reviews and calculated the size for my needs. I am set up for backup power but have a need for some additional loads. The size and age of my existing generator led towards this purchase. Follow the instructions in the manual and setup and operation is a snap. Produces the listed voltage in both 120 and 240 volts. Very pleased with it.

Lots of features and great build quality

I bought this after doing my homework online. I watched lots of reviews and Westinghouse had good review after good review. I have yet to fire it up but when the power goes out I will be ready. Also can't wait for my free cover! The transfer switch option also enticed me.

Perfect balance for emergencies

Bought this for weather emergencies. Very easy assembly. Well built. Perfect balance of power, price, and portability. Not the quietest generator but that wasn't high on my list. Enough power to keep essentials running for a few days if power is down.

Perfect for Hurricane loss of power

I bought this about 2 weeks ago, did the minor assembly which was easy. Finally got fuel today to check it out. It started easily and check it on one small appliance. The meters worked perfectly showing no voltage loss under load. With the handle and wheels it is easy to move around and store.

What a Power House!

This thing purrs like a kitten as it is quieter than I expected. I haven't used it under a significant load yet but I'm sure it will no doubt deliver when called upon. Quality product and very easy to assemble the wheel kit - less than 10 minutes. I love it so far.
