This unit has everything I need to keep the essentials of my home running during an outage!!!

This has been a great unit right out of the box. Easy to assemble, simple easy to read starting and usage instructions, portable and enough power to maintain my home in a safe and functional state during a power outage. Easy electric start for my wife if I am away on business. Great generator, bought 2 more for my children's homes.

Generac is #1

Gererac was my first choice, spent a lot of dark days before I purchased the GP6500E. Plenty of features, easy setup. I chose this model especially for the Electric Start feature, and the efficient fuel consumption rate. I also matched this generator with the Generac Transfer Switch kit.

GP7500E

Just unpacked my new GP7500E. Easy setup to get running. Powered a few items just to test the generator. Will be easy enough for my wife to use before I can get home. Only disappointment was that there wasn't the extra cord included (twist lock to 3 plugs) but not a deal breaker.

At least the rope start is easy, the battery didn't last 3 months.

The GP8000E is a very capable machine. It can run our whole house and never falter. The electric start was a requirement so my wife could crank it up. There is the first weak spot. The machine is just 4 months old and has 3.2 hours on it and the start battery has cracked and is leaking. Yes, I recommend the unit, but I recommend that you plan to replace the starting battery very early. The 20amp cord that comes with some is of marginal utility, I suggest that you look a 14-30 cord if you chose to do much at all.

Good value for the features

We chose the 6500E over other models due to it's many positive reviews from multiple sites and its features for the price. I especially like the number of available 20 amp outlets plus the 20 foot power cord. I specifically wanted the electric start and the automatic voltage regulation, and the rubber outlet covers are a great addition! Cons: The set-up instruction card had several minor errors and omissions. For example - the set up instructions did not mention that the fuel line was disconnected at the shut-off valve and needed to be connected by the owner. Good thing I saw it during my initial inspection. Suggestions: An onboard voltage meter (and maybe a manual voltage adjustment) would be a great addition, so the output voltage can be monitored without needing a separate meter. And it would be nice to have an onboard power meter showing amperage draw. But, for the price this model is perfectly adequate for our needs. Unfortunately, the week we received our generator, the price dropped $50. Wish I had waited one more week.

Love the features!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Last year when a hurricane hit we were without power for 3 days. I said then that I would not want to go through that experience again without a generator. I was worried that we would lose all of our food in our refrigerators as well as our freezers and that would be devastating for us. For years I have heard that people had problems with carbon monoxide issues with generators so I was so happy that this one is equipped with CO Sense. I feel safer using this with my family. This generator has an electric start so it is even easy for me to start. I am thankful that I do not have to worry anymore about what we would do without power. In the long run this will save us a lot of patience and money since we will be able to run our refrigerators and freezers.

Couldn't ask for more

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] In the brief time we’ve had the GP 8000E, it has worked flawlessly. The unit arrives well packaged and protected and mostly assembled. I had to install the wheels, handle, battery cables and fill it with oil (included). A layperson could easily do this but it helps to have a partner to lift the unit to put the wheels on. The machine fired right up with both the electric start and pull cord and worked as advertised. For my application, there are plenty of power outputs and it’s easy to understand the control panel. The machine seems very well built and there aren’t any obvious quality shortcuts. I haven’t had a chance to plug in the battery charger but that’s a nice touch so you don’t have to buy a separate battery tender. Competitive price, well-built unit, intuitive controls – what more could you ask for?

A few disappointments with the 17500W generator purchase

I have not started the generator yet but in getting it ready I've identified a few disappointing aspects. First and probably the biggest disappointment is the requirement to measure valve clearance at every 50 hour interval. The owners manual informs you this is pretty complicated (without describing the procedure) and suggests you have a qualified dealer do it (...did I mention the requirement for every 50 hours of operation?). The generator came with a note indicating the unit is "shipped without oil" and they supply 2 quarts for the required 1.7 quart capacity. When I poured the first quart in, the oil level was well above full on the dipstick ….indicating the engine was not even close to empty of oil. I also found the assembly instructions to be near non-existent because the exploded view of the assembly was so small in the users manual; also - it did not reference torques for any bolts or wear lock washers vs. nylon nuts should be used. I also noted two wires stretched very tight across the oil filter - which needed to be disconnected and re-connected following a less stressful path. I truly hope the generator will work well despite these initial findings.

Bring on Winter

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We live in the country and we have had some hard winters when the electric has been out. We have been wanting a generator for a good while, and finally got one. I didn't know anything about this brand, but "wow"! It had very little assembly out of the box. It is very sturdy and came with large wheels and a handle that uses both hands to keep it balanced, which makes it easy to maneuver. The handle locks in place and folds down when you don't need it. I was really surprised at the features it had. It had 4 plugs, and a 220 volt plug for larger appliances, like a washer or stove. Of course it's not winter, but when the power goes out we will be ready! We hooked it up to our power washer and was able to go beyond what we can usually do around the house. It started with the first pull and had the power to run various items that we tested it with, such as the power washer, welder and we even plugged it into a small camper to run the lights, etc. We are almost wanting a hard winter, just so we can use it. I am very happy with this generator and feel that it will last a lifetime. There is nothing flimsy about it and I think they thought of just about everything with this. I realize we didn't get to try it out for very long, but I can't think of any cons to this generator.

I love it.

I bought it almost 2 years ago, I haven't had to use very often, only when power is going to be out for a while, but it runs EVERYTHING in my home. No need to shut of anything, just hook it up, push the electric start, and throw the switch in my breaker panel. It's not one of the quiet ones, so I keep it about 100 ft from my home inside my barn and I don't hear it at all.
