With all the power outages in Southern California, it was time to get this for reliable backup of the entire home and appliances, for longer periods than a battery will provide and with the easy of instant refilling the tank - rather than a solar charge.

I bought the Westinghouse WGen5300s after I spent a lot of time comparing dozens of portable open frame generators. I went as far as making a spreadsheet listing 20 or so specifications and features for each generator when deciding my purchase. I wanted a stand by power source for my modestly sized rural home. In addition to powering some appliances and a few lights it had to provide 240 volts to a well pump. It will be connected via a manual transfer switch so the generator had to provide 240 volts through a L14-30R outlet. This requirement eliminated most other generators. I considered dual fuel generators but the added cost of such units was a deterrent and the fact that propane is more costly and provides less power from the generator than gasoline eliminated that option for me. Fuel economy was a very important consideration when comparing the different generators and there was a substantial difference that seems to be mostly associated with engine size and wattage output. The features most important to me were electric start, a built in meter for monitoring voltage, frequency and run time, a fuel gauge and an included wheel kit. Noise levels, weight and warranty period were also important considerations. This model met all of my requirements and beat most others when considering specs and features. The price from Amazon with free fast shipping made it a great value. I just received it so I cannot comment on its performance yet but I'm hoping it will provide many years of stand by power if needed.

This is the first generator I have ever purchased. After doing my homework and finding out what I would require, I found this Westinghouse portable generator and it accommodates all of my needs. Easy to use and very helpful and informative instructions takes you step by step for all us first time users. Very pleased with the product. Thank you!

I just received it today. I set it up. Put oil in which was provided and wheels on. Fueled it turned gas on and choke on started second pull. Shut off choke and ran good. Let it run for a while the plugged in a torpedo heater . It started and ran perfectly. I have not yet tried the other features . So far so good!:)

A good product. Good step-by-step instructions on the generator...no going back and forth with a paper manual. Easy to start by a man. I saw the on/off switch on the product pictures and mistakenly thought it was a battery start. If I ever need to use it, I will need help from a stronger armed person.

I purchased this generator to run a paint sprayer. After several uses (about 10 hours total) I am very happy with it. The generator starts easily and runs steady - no problems at all. The only (very minor) complaint I have is that the oil dipstick/fill plug is kind of hard to get at and makes it challenging to add oil without spilling.

The Generator arrived with slight damage from shipping. For the most part, the generator was ready to go from the box. Installed the rubber feet, wheels, and oil very quickly. I was happy that the oil and a funnel was supplied. My model has electric start and came with its own battery that already had a charge. The battery connection is fool proof. Once I added premium fuel, start up was easy. I was not sure what to expect with noise level. This generator is not extremely quiet like an inverter but is much more quiet than other generators of similar power that I've owned and used. My cabin is off the grid and this has provided plenty of power. It has not shown any struggle to power the cabin along with some power tools. No opinion on longevity yet. I just wish this model had a remote start option.

Just got it unpacked and am impressed with the solid workmanship and solid parts. No strange issues when assembling the wheels and supports... took but 15 minutes. Now I have to assemble a 220 VAC cable assembly which will interface with my master power pane.

Super easy to set up and started up immediately. Novices level reasonable as I did not expect it to be as quiet as an inverter generator. Love the large fuel tank and 14+ hour run time. Using this as a home back up generator for our lovely PG&E power safety shutoff days as our area is high fire risk. Only thing keep this from 5 stars is the generator had damage on the recoil where it looked like something hit it. I was able to pry out the bent cover that was hitting on the recoil to where the unit is usable. Westinghouse is working on an open case to send a new one. very happy with purchase and being able to plug this right into our power transfer meter. No more extension cords!

ONE SUGGESTION; MOVE THE CROSS MEMBER 1" TOWARD THE END OR MORE SO OIL DOES NOT RUN DIRECTLY ONTO THE FRAME WHEN OIL IS CHANGED. IT IS INTENDED TO BE USED FOR POWER OUTAGES TO RUN LIGHTS, HEAT, AND WATER PUMP. MAY BE USED OCCASIONALLY FOR CAMPING. ATTRACTIVE GENERATOR CONTROL PANEL IS NICELY LAID OUT. HANDLE FOR MOVING IT AROUND IS A LITTLE OVER KNEE HIGH. GOOD LITTLE LIGHT WEIGHT MACHINE. I'LL RECOMMEND IT TO PEOPLE.
