Good Camera, Great Range
I was given this product to try as part of the WeeSpring Parent panel. Overall I liked the monitor but didn't find it as user friendly as monitors I've used in the past. The set up of the front button and having to go to a menu to change the camera view took some Getting used to. The video quality is pretty good and I liked that it gave you the option to switch to audio only mode. The Eco mode is a great idea, however my kids use a white noise machine while they sleep so the monitor picked that up as sound and would never switch to power save. As a stationary camera this works great with a small rage to adjust the camera around however if you have multiple children in one room that you'll need to pan around to see, you won't have the best range of motion from the monitor unit. The range between the camera and monitor is one of the best I've ever used. We brought it on a camping trip to test and we're able to walk a good distance to a friends camper before having any interference or cutting out. The nightlight feature on the camera seemed like a nice idea, but really doesn't light up much more than the camera that it glows from. The camera also has a music feature which you can start and change songs from the monitor, but my kids don't like music while sleeping so besides testing it when we first received the camera, we didn't use this feature. Overall, I liked the camera and would recommend it to friends. The camera, audio and range features are great!
Pretty good monitor
Overall this is a pretty good baby monitor. Pros: The monitor has good battery life, especially when using ECO mode. It's nice not having to listen to the sound machine through the monitor and only hear the baby when they wake up. The monitor also has a feature where you can change the sound sensitivity so that it doesn't notify you if it hears the sound machine. The screen is large and clear, so it is easy to see the baby. The monitor also seems sturdy/ well made. The antenna seems very secure, unlike other monitors that have a flimsy antenna. Also, I'm in a two story house with my bedroom on the first floor and the baby's on the second, and I haven't experienced any signal issues. Cons: The instruction manual is not very clear. It only has pictures, so it's difficult to understand the differences between the different modes and the different settings for the monitor. As other reviews have mentioned, the camera has a limited range of motion and it can only be moved manually. There is no way to move it via the monitor. Not a big deal if you can mount it to the wall, but I have mine on a shelf so the camera occasionally gets bumped out of place and I have no way to fix it without going back into my baby's room. I received this product as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel.
Absolutely love this!
Thank you to the weeSpring parent panel for giving me the opportunity to test out the Phillips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor. I absolutely love the eco mode setting to help prevent from dying out fast. The overall design is super sleek and modern and looks fabulous in my daughter's nursery. I was super excited to test out the talk back feature considering my little one wakes up often and starts to whine. So being able to console her without having to step in the room is a huge must and necessity that I never knew I needed until I tried it. It was easy to set up and use and the video picture was perfect. I am so grateful that I was chosen to test and will be recommending to a friend of mine who is expecting in December!
Decent monitor with useful features
After using an archaic baby monitor for the last three years, it is a pleasure to be using a newer, more high-tech monitor. Thanks to weeSpring Parent Portal, I was able to trial an awesome Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor. Once we received it in the mail, we immediately set it up in our nine-month-old's room. There isn't a great spot for it, so it is actually on the top of a book shelf quite a distance from the crib. Surprisingly, it still has great screen quality even from across the room. I can see perfectly whether it is light or dark, which is great feature and a testament of its quality. At first I was a little concerned with the monitor's level of sensitivity. We can usually hear our baby, even without the monitor, so I didn't want it to go off every time the baby rolled over. It seemed like the monitor was going off every few seconds or staying consistently activated because of the noise from the sound machine. That didn't seem right, so I played around with the settings and changed the level of sensitivity. This has helped so much. The monitor doesn't stay activated all the time, thus saving the battery life (something I'll talk more about next). All of the special features and ways to customize its usage is a huge asset. By far my favorite feature is the ECO mode. It's great when you just want a quick peek but don't need the screen glaring at you for minutes or more. However, I do think the battery life (or lack thereof) is my least favorite feature of this monitor, as it doesn't seem to last long - even on ECO mode - before it needs to be plugged in again. I wish I didn't feel like I needed to keep the parent monitor plugged in all night for fear that it starts beeping at 3am due to low battery. One feature that is important to us is the monitor's range. We didn't get a chance to trial this feature, but hope to test this in the near future and will update the review accordingly. Overall I do think this product is high quality, especially when it comes to the digital display. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a baby monitor with a good screen quality and useful features as long as keeping it plugged in isn't a problem.
Nice, easy to use monitor with a great big screen
I've had the same video monitor for the past 8.5 years, but have a 1.5 year old so I was super excited when weeSpring Parent Panel for sent me this monitor to review since I had been counting the days until our old monitor died. Right out of the box I was impressed with how easy it was to get set up and how quickly and easily it paired right out of the box. The screen on the parent monitor was very large and the display was awesome during daytime and I was excited to test it out at night. We hung it on the wall over my son's crib, but I will say it took a little while to get a good angle. It seemed a little limited in how you can maneuver the camera. After toggling through all the viewing options, I was still confused and wished the manual had a little more information. At night, the display was fairly clear. I could easily see if my son was awake. Once he's asleep, I usually change it from Video mode to ECO mode. I really like eco mode and how it turns the sound and screen back on when my son makes a noise. I've found it to be very accurate and haven't had any issues with it not responding. After toggling through all the menus, I do wish they had one where the audio stayed on and the video would kick on when the baby made noise. It's not so relevant to me now since I have an older baby/toddler, but I can see myself wanting that feature with a new baby. Overall though, I did really like the monitor and got a hang of the settings I liked very quickly.
Great monitor!
I love this monitor! I received this product from the weeSpring Parent Panel but would definitely buy it again if I would need another one. I love that you can choose between audio or video and even have the option to keep the screen dark until there is noise (ECO mode). Until I got the monitor I was always nervous if my daughter is ok but now I can clearly see what is happening in her room without going in. I like how I can also call into her or turn on the music on her monitor. The screen is clear and the sound quality is great as well. I do wish there could be a way I can see the monitor on my phone (maybe through an app). I only gave a 4 star since I found the instructions very hard to understand - there was only pictures and i had to go online to Philips Avent website to understand the different modes.
One of the best!
I received the Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel, and boy, am I glad I did! This monitor is fantastic! Here is why I feel like I have to take off one star: The monitor is fairly bulky to take with me as I do stuff around the house while baby sleeps. I would prefer it to be a little more compact. The video is a little grainy, depending on the lighting. Aside from the above points, I LOVE it! The set-up took me literally 30 seconds. Just plug in the camera, turn on the monitor, adjust camera angle, and you're good to go! It was very important to me that I wouldn't have to spend an eternity trying to connect to wifi or putting together parts. The built-in decibel sensor means audio will only come on if Baby makes significant noise - so I don't have to listen to white noise or lullaby renditions of Metallica and the Backstreet Boys all night long. Two-way audio lets me talk to Baby without being in the room. Temperature display lets me know that Baby will be sleeping comfortably. This monitor is definitely on the top of my list of monitors I have encountered over the course of my 20-year childcare career. The list of desirable features is long, the cost is reasonable, and the peace of mind parents can get from this device is priceless.
Works, but not the best
I received this product from weeSpring Parent Panel. Ultimately, the Philips Avent Baby Monitor works as intended. I was disappointed in the screen size (this was my biggest issue with the product), I could not find a way to situate the camera to allow full vision of my child's crib, let alone across her room. The night vision was grainy and difficult to decipher movement. While in Eco mode (which overall, I liked), I was not able to quickly click a button to turn on the screen unless my child made a noise or moved. I like to occasionally check - even if I haven't heard any noise - to make sure things are ok and this was not simple to do. I did, however, like the long charging cord and camera plug-in cord. The battery life on the monitor was great - I did not use it long enough yet to know if it'll die faster over time. Set-up was simple - mounting the camera was a breeze. I also liked the sensitivity feature - you can choose how sensitive the monitor is at alerting you to sounds and movement. As I have a toddler, I prefer less sensitivity, so this was nice.
Love the eco feature
I was lucky to receive this product through the weespring parent panel. This product was by far the best baby monitor I have used. The video was extremely clear both during the day and evening. The sound was exceptional and I was able to speak clearly with my wife when she was with my daughter. The monitor was easy to assemble and even easier to mount. It has a wide range to see my daughters entire crib. My favorite feature was the eco mode, it saved my battery tremendously and was very helpful to reduce the amount of charging
Fun and useful video monitor
My son is already almost two, and until recently, we had used a simple audio monitor to keep tabs on him while he slept. We didn't think we needed a video monitor, but were still excited to receive the Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor to test for free as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. I wish we'd known before what we'd been missing! From night one, we loved watching our little guy on the great screen. The mystery behind many of the noises and cooing was revealed. It was fun to watch him bumble around in his crib while he tried to fall asleep. More practically, having video of what's going on when the door is closed has helped us know when he really needed us to come in and when he was just resettling in his sleep. The picture is very clear, so we can see exactly what's up. The monitor has several different modes, including audio only and ECO mode. Unfortunately, because we always have a white noise machine running in our son's room, the ECO mode wasn't useful. The white noise was enough to keep it triggered all the time, so it didn't turn off ever to save energy. Having the audio mode was great, though, since we could leave the video off until he cried and we needed to check on him. Overall, this is a great monitor that we would definitely recommend.
