I opened a recent package of this cheese, I was disappointed to find that the separator papers were gone. At first, it wasn’t a big issue because the slices came apart easily, but as the package stayed open, the cheese became increasingly crumbly. This is especially noticeable when part of the package is frozen, which is something I often do. The cheese still tastes great, but the slices tend to break apart, making them difficult to separate and use. I’ve even had to resort to using a metal spatula to lift slices, but that really isn’t a practical solution. The cheese still crumbles, the slices don’t come apart cleanly, and it’s often difficult to grab just one slice without tearing it or pulling up multiple slices at once. What confuses me is the inconsistency. I purchased the cheddar variety and found it crumbly right from the start. Later, I bought the pepper jack variety, and that package still included separator papers. Since this Colby Jack cheese used to have papers as well, I’m not sure why some varieties include them and others don’t. The flavor and value are really good, but I would strongly encourage bringing back the separator papers. They made the cheese much easier to use and helped prevent the slices from sticking and crumbling apart.
