Nice pencil. Very easy and fast to connect to an iPad (we have generation 8). The pencil is very precise and makes clear lines when you need to, it also shades well. My daughter loves it so far. The thing I didn’t like about the pencil is the charging tip. When you plug it directly to the iPad to charge it has to be on a flat surface like a table or floor, otherwise there is a high chance of breaking the top off and leaving it in the iPad making both devices unusable. Yes, this generation pencil doesn’t charge by simply attaching it to the side of the iPad. Overall it’s a decent pencil.

I am enjoying using the pencil, especially to write my to do lists. The reason for the 4 stars is because I have to pull out the cord and adapter every time I pair the pencil. Which is every time I turn it on. I am not in the habit of leaving my IPad on when I’m not using it

Feels good to use for Procreate. Screen protectors like Paperlike can wear down the nib, notably. I recommend also having some kind of comfortable pencil grip for this tool, as the completely straight-down, stick-shaped pencil is neither ergonomic or comfortable after several hours of use. That said, I have completed some very professional work without the use of one, so I will say that it is absolutely not a requirement. I really wish this thing came with a dedicated charger, rather than just the extensions. I don't mean to say that the extensions aren't extremely valuable, but it is extremely frustrating to have to look for another cable if my iPad is already charging. It does charge to full very fast. Annoyingly, you cannot use it while it is charging, even if you are on a cable. However, thanks to its extremely fast charge time, it barely makes any difference in workflow (for me, anyways.) While I have read online that it lasts for about 12 hours of continuous use, this tool has actually lasted for up to 14-ish hours. (Granted, my drawing and painting sessions rarely ever go over 10 hours.)

Absolute scam with Allstate warranty - they won’t cover the product that was dead out of the box. I purchased it 8/2024 - but Apple claims it was it’s out of a 1 year warranty. Nobody wants to cover its defect. These die and won’t turn on if you don’t keep it charged.

Lighting to usb c if you have a recent iPad you’ll have to get an adapter luckily it comes with adapters but it’s bulky and awkward to plug in the charging time is around an hour and do not lose the magnetic end to the pencil. If you’re expecting features like double tap and the magic eraser its only capabilities are presser sensitivity. I enjoy using my iPad and I was exited to try the advertised pen but unfortunately because of the immense confusion with the Apple Pencil line up both my iPad and pencil are the wrong one for the Apple Pencil 2 If you have a regular iPad and are willing to put up with okay battery life and proprietary charging do it

This stylus is much more than your run of the mill tablet stylus. The way this interacts with the iPad is incredible. Anywhere you can type on the iPad you can write with the Apple Pencil. It is a breeze to set up and the different pressure points makes sketching very fluid and easy. Only complaint is that it is completely cylindrical meaning that it can roll off any surface that isn't perfectly level. The 2nd Gen has a small flat part of the body that keeps that from happening. This feels great using and has a little weight to it like a nice writing pen has. Worth the purchase with my new iPad!

Apple goes out of their way to make compatibility difficult between their Apple Pencils and iPads, all the more frustrating because this is a software limitation designed to maximize how many accessories you need to purchase. Only a masochist would design the compatibility matrix between iPad models, Apple pencils, and their charging accessories. We have a 4 year old iPad Air -- that uses apple pencil v2, because it has a usb-c charger. We have a 5 year old iPad with lightning port -- that uses an apple pencil V1. ...then, we purchase a current (2024) iPad with usb-c? Take a guess which Apple Pencil works with that and how you charge it? Apple Pencil *v1*, with two adapters (lightning to usbc and usbc-female) so you can charge it and also pair it with the iPad. Keep in mind this is a software decision by apple, not hardware, and if you contact apple to ask about this they also aren't clear on which Apple Pencils work with which iPads as their compatibility matrix assumes that all usb-c iPads work with pencil v2 which has a usb-c connection. I assumed the rumbling you hear downtown in Palo Alto was Caltrain. But now I understand. It's Steve Jobs turning in his grave every time someone has to use two adapters back to back with a current rev product to get it to charge.

Love the Apple Pencil and all the ways to use it with my iPad. However, charging the Pencil is one of the worst concepts Apple has ever invented and because of this hassle, I rarely use the Pencil. Also, the hard tip of the Pencil tapping against the screen can be very annoying.
