This gen is quiet...
actually tested with a decibel meter I use for my sound system. At idle, approx 44 db, at full power, 51db. Can't comment on reliability yet as I just got it but it seems exremely well built. The digimeter on front is awesome as well.
MIstake
What a mistake. Should have paid attention to the negative reviews. Could not get this to run. Followed instructions completely, but right out of the box it took numerous pulls to start and once it did start it would run for only a minute or so and then shut off. Running on propane was worse. Trying to call in was futile. Returned to seller and they will ship it back. Hope I get my money back.

Good generator, had problems the second year used
Ran great the first summer it was used however the first use the second year it won't run smoothly. RPM's go up and down. At the end of the first summer the gas was completely drained before storing for the winter. Drained gas again after problem was discovered and filled with new gas-no change Plan on taking it in for a service check to see what the problem is.
Fantastic little generator for the cost
Everything about it seems to be good quality. I wish it had a standard 30A outlet so I could plug my 30A RV cord directly into the unit. With a MicroAir EasyStart system installed, I'm able to run my Dometic Brisk II AC as well as my 6cf Norcold RV refrigerator at the same time. I would have liked to see a proper break in procedure documented in the manual and quick start guide. In short, pull the spark plug and use the included funnel to pour about 1/2 ounce of oil directly into the combustion chamber. Then SLOWLY pull the starter cord about 15-20 times to ensure the cylinder walls, piston skirt, and rings are fully saturated with oil. The put the spark plug back in. Yes, it will smoke like crazy on startup the first time and this is ok. Put the included oil in the crankcase as instructed...gas it up and start it with ECO mode off. Once started, turn from choke to run position, then turn on ECO mode. Run it with no load for about 30 minutes. Stop the engine, drain the oil...yes it's black. Now, do it again, this time at about 25% load for 1 hour. Change oil again. Now run it a full power load through 1 tank of fuel. Then change oil again. After the first break in step, start using full synthetic oil. This procedure take some time and is a bit of work but it will ensure the engine is broken in properly and should last MUCH longer. Don't believe me? When you drain the oil the first time, drain it into a glass container and look how black the oil is. It will be like that the first 3 oil changes. After 3 changes, then run as recommended...50 hours between changes...always using synthetic. Also note that you don't have to use 10w-30. The manual says that you can run more temperature appropriate oil as needed. Also, get a better spark plug. You should go ahead and get 2...change out the cheap Torch brand after the break in. then have another on hand as a spare.
Highly recommend
I really wanted the igen4500 but that unit has been on backorder everywhere for a very long time. With hurricane season a week away I didn't want to take a chance so I ordered the igen2500, which was my second choice. Upon unboxing I gave it a thorough going over. The unit appeared to be in great condition with only 1 minor scratch. When I showed the wife she couldn't even find the scratch. Alls good! I followed the very clear pre startup instructions and was ready to start it up within 5 min. It started on the first pulled. I let it run for 20 min with no load than added a 240 watt load and let it run. After 10hrs 14min it finally ran out of gas. I found the unit to be louder than I expecting. More on that later. Day 2. I wanted to run another tank full of gas to get through the first 20hrs and do the first oil change as recommended ( I actually change the oil after the first day's run so this would be the second oil change). About 2 hrs into the run I noticed 1 of the 4 control panel screws had back it's way out and was laying on the ground. Looking at the screw I found the last 3 threads had been stripped. I checked the other three and they were fine. A quick trip to the hardware store and all is good again. On this day I put a higher load on the unit, about 430 watts. Still under 25 % load. It ran out of gas after 10hrs 29min. Very happy. On day three I added a small amount of gas, warmed it up and changed the oil. Put the cover back on and started it up again. That's when I noticed a buzzing sound. 2 pieces were vibrating against each other. Grabbed a screwdriver and started checking the screws a little tightening here and there and the buzzing stopped. If you have the same problem check the air filter cover screw. Now the unit sounded like I was expecting! It was very quiet! All in all this a powerful, very fuel efficient and now very quiet generator. I am very pleased. I would buy it again and I highly recommend it.
Great Buy
This generator has been great. Came with everything needed in the box, the directions were clear and it started right up. I originally purchased this generator for my cabin but after realizing how much electricity I need vs what I thought - I now plan on using this to power my home necessities during a power outage.
Initial Impression- Great! Time will tell...
Ran it for a couple of hours and connected different items to it. Responded well. Some very slight surging in rpm's under a steady load. No big deal but will keep an eye on it. Display codes to identify what is being displayed do not all match manual, but you can figure it out easily enough. In my opinion, it would be much better to display the power draw in Watts rather than Kilowatts, but again, a minor thing. Tried shutting it down after running it for a couple of hours, then restarted. As I've seen in some other reviews, it did not restart as easily as a warmed-up engine should. Took a number of pulls and trying choke versus no choke. Maybe just have to figure out the right combination, but that issue could be annoying if I don't figure out the right combination. After allowing to cool down, restarted on the first pull. Being from the U.S., I would prefer the Fuel Level to be displayed in quarts or tenths of a gallon, but the visual fuel gage mostly makes that a non-issue (and it is a minor thing anyway). So overall, with my minor nitpicking, I still give it 5 stars as my initial reaction. How it holds up, hopefully over many years, will tell the final story. Also, the ultimate test will be a power failure when I see how it handles things. (I know it is not a whole-house generator. I mean using it appropriately, but under extended times of heavy load)
Easy start, low dB
I bought this a month ago and we are going to use it camping for the first time. It replaces a comparable model from a different maker of lower comparable cost. I like the upgraded display and weather resistant covers, but the 2500 model has a gas tank that it .5 gal less than the 2200 model.. Other than less fuel capacity, it seems solid and lighter than its predecessor of a comparable make/model. The oil was added and a little bit of fuel and the generator started on the first pull with choke on. We look forward utilizing the generator for multiple days as it runs at at lower decibels, comparable to much more expensive competitors that do not offer as much power.
Awesome Generator
I just purchased this generator a couple of weeks ago. At age 65, I have never operated or owned a generator. Today, I finally decided to fire it up and learn to operate it. I will tell you that if you take a few minutes to review the instructions, it will make everything so easy. I encountered no surprises and I was amazed at how quietly it operated. I plugged in a couple of power cords and got power to the light fixtures immediately. The shut down process was simple! I am thrilled with this purchase.
Great at first, problems after minimal use
I'll just be honest this is not a very good unit I'd look elsewhere. It worked great the first few times and now not so much. We only use it power outages so it's basically brand new less than 75 hours of use. Problems are it shuts off for no reason under light load. It will run fine for two hours then engine will just rev up and down for no reason, we didn't unplug or plug anything in. Fudging with the gas cap seems to help, but you shouldn't have to do that. Leaving it not fully threaded in and clicked in seems to help. All we do is run fan for our gas stove fireplace, and fridge, and that's about it. I'm also the kind of guy who follows the manufacturer book as close as I can.
