Absolutely horrible

The door was cracked from the top to bottom when we opened the box. I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas. We built it, had numerous problems with instructions and a majority of the pre-drilled holes not lining up. We ended up building it and getting it together, without the lock because it would not fit. Within 3 hours we heard a crash and went to the living room, and the whole door fell off and the wood splintered to pieces. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYBODY. We followed all of the instructions clearly and the wood door cracked.

I have 2 long guns with scopes, one don't fit at all the other very very, very close? With tax I gave $191 was going to sell it for $50 but decided to keep it. It does look nice, if you have small long guns without scopes go for it. It's made in Vietnam, guess they want us to use smaller guns.

takes awhile to put together

Product arrives in a box disassembled. It took around 3 hours to assemble with hand tools. I would recommend using power tools for a quicker build. Wood is solid besides the back being a thin piece of wood. Glass is nice. Would recommend installing lights.

Poor quality

I know they always say "you get what you pay for" - I ran across this @ a price reduction sale just in time for Christmas - Nothing more humiliating than watching someone you love put together a security gift that is not secure @ all - yes - this item has locks on the doors but what good is that with a cardboard back? - Do not recall reading that the 8 gun cabinet is a double row in which you have to insert 4 in back row and 4 up front -so very disappointed in this purchase! Save your money and buy a more secure quality product!

Poor craftsmanship

When I started to assemble the cabinet, I noticed several areas that had stain blemishes. There were some pretapped screw holes missing so I was on my own to figure where was the best fit for door and lower cabinet door. The wood itself seems sturdy. I would wait for it to clearance at $150 or less range before thinking of buying it.

Easy to assemble. wood Glue for the dowels would be helpful. Need to screw the doors in place need help. If the holes were predrilled would be a snap.doesn,t quite fit tightly on the bottom part . but not bad for the price. A door handle would be nice rather than using the key.

Helps out with gun storage

Unlike the descriptions on some other retail sites, this chest came in a very sturdy box and was packed well. Figure on about 3 - 3 1/2 hours to assemble it. You will need someone to hold the wooden panels while you screw the hinges onto them. While the directions say not to use power tools, you will have to ignore this advice unless you are Hercules. The "pre-drilled" holes are not very pre-drilled; in fact, the wood is barely dimpled where holes for the hinges are supposed to be--and in one instance, the pre-drilled holes were off a bit. You will need a very small drill bit to drill about 1/8 inch into the panels. If you don't drill the holes a bit more, you will find that it takes someone possessing gargantuan strength to get the wood screws in all the way. The wood, which is "pressed wood", is very, very dense, and the screws go in with difficulty, even with drilling out the pre-drilled holes a little more. Caution: do not drill all the way through the wood panels for attaching the hinges! There will be a hinged door at the top of the chest, under which will be storage for blankets and quilts, and underneath that will be the gun storage compartment. The gun storage compartment should have had a different arrangement for the buttstocks of guns rather than just wooden dividers; there should have been cradles that would keep the toe of recoil pads from touching the bottom of the chest, which would cause them to become deformed. You can modify the bottom of the chest yourself, and even put in some Styrofoam or rubber material to keep the recoil pads from contacting the bottom of the chest. Overall, the chest works pretty well, though the execution of the gun storage compartment should have been better. I also think that at least $50 should be knocked off the price of the chest for these reasons. Once assembled, however, the chest looks very nice, and it can provide hidden storage for your guns. Don't expect the lock to stop anyone--camouflage is this chest's forte, not locking mechanisms.

Disappointment

This was a Christmas present and a huge disappointment. A majority of the cabinet is particle board and arrived with a broken back piece. My husband decided to make it work because returning it would be a major hassle. It has been very difficult to put together as the parts do not align easily. Once it was finally assembled, we found that the lock is totally unusable, due to alignment issues....a serious flaw for a gun cabinet. While it "looks nice", I suggest looking at another product.

Just Average

We bought this gun cabinet just to help store and display a few guns. When we started putting it together some of the seams did not match up and some parts were scratched. Luckily most of the areas that were damaged are in areas that aren't obvious. Also, the product has a very orange tint to the stain. Overall, it keeps the guns stored safely and does the job. Probably would have spent a little more and gotten a little better quality.

SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY AND FRUSTRATION

WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS IF I KNOWN IT WAS MADE IN VIET NAM. PRODUT HAS HAZARDS WARNINGS FOR THE TYPE OF FINISHES USED ON THE WOOD. MANY PIECES WERE NOT PRIDRILLED. THIS MADE IT DIFFICULT TO ASSEMBLY.UPPER AND LOWER GUN NOTCHES DO NOT ALIGN TO HOLD GUNS STRAIN. UPPER BARREL HOLDER HOLES ARE TOO SMALL. GUNS WITH HOODED FRON SIGHTS WILL NOT FIT THRU HOLES
