Fit and finish is lacking to say the least.
This seems like a great generator with lots of fantastic features. I was super excited to receive it, and to try it out. Unfortunately the brackets that mount the wheels are so far out of line after several attempts I finally was able to pry them on. Unfortunately the very heavy generator won't roll on the wheels because they are so canted and out of line. The jury is still out as I haven't needed to run it for a long period on the mechanical aspects. But the fit and finish on mine is rough for sure.
Awesome customer service!!
I purchased this a month ago, took it out of the box, put the oil and gas in etc. And then it wouldn't start. Contacted customer service and they walked me through all the trouble shooting steps. Long story short, they sent a truck, picked it up and shipped me a replacement. The new one runs perfectly and is fairly quiet for a motor that size. LOVE the remote start too!
My new generator
I have a 30 year old pull start generator that has served me well over the years. I found during my last power outages with PG&E it was getting harder to start the generator using the pull start, it started I'm just getting older. Decided to upgrade to a larger and Electric start generator. Went with the dual fuel because if the power is out the gas station will not be able to pump fuel. I always have propane on hand. The assembly was easy, feet, wheels and oil. Have only started the generator on propane haven't tried gas. Started right up and ran find. So far so good.
Excellent machine!
I've had my 9500df for about a week now and keep it bolted in the bed of my truck for mobile power. I use it for everything from welding to camping to running tools and equipment anywhere I need and its smooth as butter even running the welder off of 240v 50a. I love this little machine!
excellent product
I been looking around for a dual fuel generator for sometime. comparing prices and features. This generator seemed the best for the price. I love it, easy to set up, remote start is the best. the manual is easy to understand. also not extremely loud. So glad I made this purchase. I would recommended.
Great generator
Only complaint is it is transfer switch ready. But you have to use arduino or do some serious research to get the st switch wire functions to be able to connect this to a real ATS unit. I use an Eaton ATS and have an arduino to accept the remote start/stop wires on the ATS unit to send a three second ground out pulse to simulate the push of the start/stop button. A slight pain in the but if you don't know coding but there are enough open source fully functional code scripts that you can utilize to make it work. It makes no sense why they claim it to be transfer switch ready but then don't allow you to use the startup feature of a real automatic transfer switch. Instead they only offer the st switch which doesn't utilize the 50amp out, doesn't give you a one minute timer before cutting the generator on or off incase it's just a flicker vs an outage, and is way overpriced for its overall lack of usefulness given it wasn't even designed to be used at the recommended distance from your house. Sure you could use it in conjunction with an ATS to start the generator and just have a 9watt led light bulb plugged into it to get it to turn on and stay on but that does rob you of a few watts and I don't know the long term effects for using that and the 50amp plug. From what I have heard it can cause your breaker to trip on startup rendering the whole purpose of an ATS useless. They should make a plug in module for the ST switch plug that you could plug your industry standard two wire remote start/stop wires from an ATS switch. (Hey Westinghouse that suggestion is for you.). That said I got mine to work using an arduino and have my generator permanently mounted (wheels removed) on a concrete platform with an aluminum weatherproof case that is ventilated outside so there is no concern of it auto starting inside the garage. This portable unit provides enough power to run my living room, microwave and fridge, water heater, well pump, septic pump, my master bedroom, and one of my heat pump a/c units. I also went and had my heat pump breakers bridged so I can switch between my main level one my upstairs unit for night time running. I have my unit connected to a 250 gallon buried LPG tank but I do run the unit first and foremost with gasoline. I have a timer alarm that sends me a buzzer and I requires the fuel switch to be inside my ATS load center panel so I don't have to walk outside to switch the fuel. This generator is very good in that you can swap from gasoline to propane without restarting it. To avoid any surges I have three (yes three) whole home surge protectors. One is in the ATS load center, one is in my main service panel, and the other is on my service entry. It is overkill to a degree but if you have ever lost power you know that you will get a surge from the outage and switching to and from the generator power. Of course if you have a batter backup you can use an AGS module that starts the generator when your batter falls below the battery voltage threshold. You might be wondering why use a portable? Well when my surplus diesel finally died I quickly found that the availability of them was hard to come by and new diesels started at 15k. Even standby LPG generators start at 2k more than these amd usually less power. Plus these generators truly are the king of portables not to mention they are just one heck of a generator. They are so good while not recommended for medical equipment (no one officially or on the record recommends a generator for this purpose.). Many people around the world trust Westinghouse even over Hondas to power their small medical equipment. Just check the specs and you will see why. I love these so much I am saving to buy a second and run a second to permanently connect the other ac. Anyway highly recommend these.
Robust design! Simple set-up.Purrs like a kitten!
Minor assembly went easily, added oil, connected the propane line, and started after about 2 seconds of cranking. Ran smooth, and quieter than expected. Was afraid for the worse when it arrived, as the packaging was destroyed by the shipper, but amazingly all the parts were there, and the wrap around frame protected the generator well. It arrived on end instead of on its base, but other than a couple minor scratches, it was undamaged. Great design, and well built! Really like the push button start, as well as the multi-function status meter on the front panel. It's intended usage will be a back-up for the inevitable hurricanes here in Florida, so the bonus remote start key fob will allow me to cycle it as needed to conserve fuel, without having to trudge out in the weather to strop and start it. Really slick! It was specifically purchased due to its dual fuel capability, and unless it is an absolute emergency, it will never see gasoline. Have a 100lb tank of propane all ready to go, and know from experience that abstaining from gasoline will prolong engine life, not to mention never having to worry about propane going ‘bad' if not used! Another plus for the product! 5 stars well deserved!
Awesome Generator
I did a ton of research on generators before I bought this, and I am so glad I did. I am very happy with my decision to buy this one. It puts out clean power so I don't have to worry about my sensitive electronics, it has enough power to run my whole hose. I feels this is the best bang for the buck for sure.
Bad starter multiple times
This is our second Westinghouse and it has a second bad starter. Manufacturer knows this and sent us a new starter. It was installed and still had. If I could, I would get my money back, but the manufacturer says they will send a new starter when the “good ones” come into stock as they had a whole set of bad starters. And the place I bought it from won't take a return. Looking forward to Westinghouse sending me the updated, good version of the starter so that my brand new 12000W generator will finally work.
Checked the boxes
Wanted a large portable dual fuel generator with a low THD and this fit the bill. The online specifications on seller websites are not consistent or very clear but this does have pressurized oil system with a filter (and oil cooler which was not mentioned anywhere!) which should extend the service life of the unit.
