Very good product, the bolts could’ve been slightly longer to help, which would’ve sped up the build. But not disappointed at all.

Took wife and I around 9 hours to complete. Pay attention to the pilot holes for the corbels on the posts. Fairly smooth until one already split corbel came apart and had to be glued and finish nailed back together. The 14 top purlins were warped and don't fit together well. Had to redrill a lot of pilot holes as they didn't line up. Otherwise it looks good and much sturdier than our former metal unit.

Our home is always changing--inside & out; & every change creates a new "pop":. This time we added a room!! It all started after switching out the last section of old board decking to brick, matching the rest of the existing bricked deck--improving both the look & function of our yard. But, looking out at the expanse of this all brick deck, even with colorful furniture & our usual riot of plants, something was missing. Somehow, we needed to frame that section, a place where we entertain and also shelter a lot of plants. (I'm a gardener). It's Florida; summer sun is merciless on human skin and, more importantly, all of our plants shriveling in our summer heat; they can't hop up and escape into the AC. What we needed was a pretty shelter from direct sun; we needed a pergola! And this baby is a champ. Ordering was easy, the perfect size for our spot, delivery on time; my husband Bill added 2 applications of weather coating, we hired the brick guys to assemble it (we are old :-)). And now we have more than a pergola; it is a ROOM-- partly nestled under our old magnolia, decorated by our happy shaded plants, and furnished by our colorful furniture (I am a painter), the pergola frames it all and creates the perfect space whose form is lovely and which functions to give us what we needed: a solid, sturdy, shade-providing structure. We already have subprojects planned: our copper pelican perches on the top corner; to add even more shade, we are installing lattice panels over the widely spaced roof slats, and we are adding electric outlets for some good old Florida fans, also hanging solar lights to line the top structure. Just bought 2 of the 16x12 pergolas to sit side by side. The first thing I noticed is the color is completely off from the photos online. One of the reasons I chose this pergola was because the color matched the rest of the wood in my yard. I understand that screens can distort color a bit but this is extreme and MUCH lighter than anticipated. It does state in the description that saturation can vary but I don’t even think it’s a saturation issue as it is maybe only 1 coat of stain added as opposed to more to get the proper color maybe to just get the product out faster? Not sure but make sure you don’t rely on the color if it’s important to you. The other thing is that several of the joists were pretty bowed. It didn’t prevent us from installing but just not super high quality for the price paid. A lot of the pieces are pretty lightweight and posts are hollow. Still not sure how this withstands the high winds that they say but we did attach it to the house and a concrete patio so we’ll see how it lasts to Florida storms. Overall it was relatively easy to put together but I likely would not purchase again. If you are making a decision based on what you see in photos make sure to do more research first.

I purchased this pergola with very minimal building/construction experience outside of of small furniture. I didn’t know what to expect, but I needed some shade in my yard and much faster than companies could come out to build one for me. I ordered the product and it arrived fast! I built it with the help one person and it was a breeze. I did have to borrow a few neighbors to help move the completed product, but that took no time and it was a breeze. Unfortunately, I sold that home and have relocated so I do not get to enjoy it at the moment, but I am considering another for my new home and doing it all over again. Also, so many people that came and viewed my home commented on how great it looked and couldn’t believe I built it myself! It certainly added more value than the price I paid and looking forward to getting another soon!

We had looked at many different pergolas before deciding on Backyard Discovery. We could not be happier with the quality, beauty and quality of the product. We are so thrilled to have added beauty and value to our property and look forward to years of enjoyment.

I bought this last June, and it arrived fairly quickly. I paid my landscape architect to assemble it and with a 2.5 person crew, it took about 4 hours. Lots of pieces, but they figured it out. The pergola is solid and the color is beautiful. It has withstood several storms and gusty wind days this past year. To protect , maintain, and preserve the cedar for years to come, I'm planning to put a clear coat of stain on it later this month. I am really satisfied with how it looks. I just wish they made them taller.

I had 3 helpers assist assembling the pergola without any problems. It took about 8 hours total with multiple breaks in between. The finished product is a solid structure with beautiful cedar consistent color. The 6x6 posts are not solid cedar posts but feel very secure. The cedar and hardware are top quality. I would definitely but this model again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this 6 months ago and it has been a great addition to our backyard! Shipment was fast and all the parts were labeled and easy to separate by using the instructions. The color we chose makes it so easy to decorate around and the boards at top make it easy to add lighting to. Having the power source on the side works perfect for electricity as we've plugged fans, phones, and radios up to it numerous times. The structure is very solid and we get so many compliments on it. We also waterproof sealed it to protect it as recommended. Definitely recommend this product!

This will be the second summer we have used this pergola. I am still pleased with it. I followed others advice and treated the wood with spar urethane before assembly. It would be easier to assemble with a couple adults. However, I was able to put it up with a little help from my 11 year old daughter. When the Oklahoma heat ramps up, I put a shade cloth over it to provide more shade. Over all I am very pleased with the pergola.
