I always buy Michelin

I have been driving Defenders for many years and just put a new set of Defender 2 tires on my 2019 Subaru Impreza. The new tires are very quiet, with zero vibration at any speed. Steering seems more precise and the car tracks perfectly at highway speeds.Routine handling overall is not "sporty" but is very good. My Subaru is glued to the road. In the past few months, I have done 100+ mile drives under blizzard conditions (Route 95 is badly plowed in New England) and heavy rain/sleet, without a single scary moment. I was especially impressed with my car's handling in moderate snow. The Defender 2s are fun to drive and give me confidence that, with careful driving, I can stay safe even in the worst weather. I also expect them to last a very long time.

Excellent tires!

I got the tires about 3 weeks ago for my Nissan Rogue Sport 2020, and already put almost 1000 miles. They have excellent traction and tread (much better than the Bridgestone that came with the car whe. I bought it). The mileage has improved slightly (I would say between 5 and 10%) and the car handles very well in rain and when turning. I still have not driven in the snow. I read carefully the reviews before buying the tires and feel that some customers left unfair feedback. A lot of people don't inflate their tires properly or service them and they trashed Michelin Defender 2 unfairly. If you don't have tire pressure indicators on your dashboard, roll up your sleeves and check the pressure yourself every few weeks (it's unsafe to drive with under-inflated tires and your fuel consumption will go up). Spend a few dollars and rotate your tires every 10k and get new tire alignment every year - it will extend the longevity of your tires!

Picked out for Mom

Reviewed everything I could to make sure mom is set up on something safe. Car O.E tires where Continental Contipro Touring. And they were wonderful but seems like these Michelin Defender 2 tired are going to take the Cake! Especially on the roads she's on. They gotta handle well in rain and snow definitely Michelin does both well. Hope the 80k hold up. The Tred is very thick and built well. Good for dirt roads as well. Very responsive on hiway. Thanks Michelin, for keeping mom safe!

Using Only Michelins

I have used Michelin's on all my vehicles for many years. When I bought my 2014 Durango, it came with another brand. After 20,000 miles or so they were wearing. Michelins have been on it ever since and I not have almost 50,000 on them and not near wear points yet. Great traction in wet weather, low noise, and smooth ride. What not to like.

2nd set of Defenders--excellent tires

We replaced the Michelin Latitude tires on our 2010 Acura MDX with Defender LTX tires last year and have been pleased with the ride and performance. We just purchased a second set of Defender 2 tires for our 2013 Acura TSX wagon to replace a set of IronMan tires that were failing at 18k miles. What a difference! The improvement in ride quality and fuel economy is noticeable. I drive over 400 miles a week and these tires are rated for 80k miles--I expect to have them for a long time.

Bad tires for wet

When I was on a road trip it started to rain and out of nowhere I skidded around several times as if nothing had happened. Luckily I didn't cause an accident. Since then I realized that it's very easy to skid when it's wet. Now I'm afraid of having an accident when the pavement is wet.

Defender2 has poor traction

The Defender2 tires were a safety problem for my Rav4 Prime SE. The cars ABS periodically began to engage shortly after the Defender2 was mounted. Reference Michelin case numbers 03727059, 03673882 and others. I cannot recall the ABS ever engaging with the OEM tire (not Michelin) nor since replacing the Defender2 with Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires. I've now had the Primacy Tour A/S tires mounted for nearly a thousand miles, no ABS engagements or dashboard warnings, I am happy with the Primacy Tour, but the Defender2 seems defective to me. The Defender2 would easily skid on dry roads, hence the ABS, dash lights and warning sounds from the car. First time I have ever used the "Michelin Promise Plan of a 60-day satisfaction guarantee", and am glad Michelin stood behind their product. Note that I did bring the car to a Toyota repair facility, who inspected the car and found it functioning properly. The dealer pointed out the Defender2 only had a B traction rating on the sidewall, suggesting the Defender2 was not a high traction tire and likely the culprit for the ABS activating. Thank you Michelin for standing behind your product and satisfaction guarantee. However, I feel the Defender2 is a bad product, at least for my Rav4 Prime SE. One last note, I tried to contact Michelin after the tires were replaced, to find out if they tested the Defender2 tires that came off my car. I was not successful in getting information. If someone at Michelin can contact me with any failure analysis, I would like to learn what was found. I hope the problem was isolated to the tires I had, not to all Defender2 tires

Have a great trip

Bought them like a months ago not sure what to make of them not an expert on rubber, travel with them across the nation road condition not that good pot holes and falling trees uneven road. Driving 12:39 am Middle of the desert rear back left tire a screw about 3/16 size got into it dash light of low air light up, luckily a service station with in a mile patch the tire and keep on driving. Not sure how much is the damage on the front tires with all the pot holes got into it. We do not need a team of experts to judge the tires. No concerns about the performance of the tires it’s great but what kills the tires is the composition what is made off more resistance to all the crazy elements on the road . I don’t care if you have to put particles of airplanes tires just do it make long lasting tire, Now I have to go the front counter of the retailer , which I hate this process. Theirs no time for star rating. No problem , I would talk to your research team and engineering and the president of tired company. Hope no other family goes to the same vacation trip, what profanity ?

Harsh ride

These new Defender 2 tires provide a very harsh ride. I feel every little road imperfection. Especially noticeable at very low speeds. Feels like the tire is thumping, as though out of round. They are not. Have had dealer check and redo balance twice, last time on a Hunter Road Force Balancer. Tires and wheels all check out within all vehicle and tire specs. No manufacturing defects were noted (i.e. broken or separated belts, etc.). Tires are structurally sound. Also, alignment is perfect. I've had five sets of the prior version of this tire on different cars, Defender T & H, and was very satisfied with the performance and comfort. Never received the advertised 90K miles on any of those tires - more like 45-50K. But did not care. They gave a good ride. These Defender 2's feel like they are inflated to 50 lb! Very hard ride. But, I'll get used to them I am sure.

Love these tires: good wet and dry traction, low noise

I bought Defender 2 tires for my 2014 Prius Five four weeks and 450 miles ago. I am thoroughly happy with the choice. These replaced some Continental SureContact units that had been scrubbed about a bit because of poor alightment. The dry traction of the Defender 2 is outstanding. I’ve had some opportunity to drive in wet conditions and the traction and braking is similarly impressive. Wet performance and noise characteristics were the primary drivers for my choice of this tire. Given that the Prius is a not well insulated car as the engineers wanted to keep the weight down, I am really impressed at how little tire noise gets into the cabin. That alone argues to put these things on my massive 2003 4,000-lb-plus Jaguar which will need new tires in the spring. The Prius’s mileage has dropped a little, but I really bought the car because it had cutting edge safety technology and I’m getting older. So trading a little drop in mileage for great dry/wet traction, exceptional handling and a low noise factor is just no biggie. As these wear a bit I would expect the mileage to slowly rise some. And at my age (75) and the amount I drive (~6000 a year) these tires should be just broken in by the time I trade the Prius in on what will likely be my last car.
