Perfect backup generator for off-grid

We live off-grid and bought this generator about 2 weeks ago because our previous one died. This is very easy to pull over, so even as a woman I am able to do so easily, and it will run everything we need, including our TVs, Desktop PCs, game consoles, and even our well pump. We would very much recommend this to anyone living off-grid or just needing a back-up generator when the power goes down.

Excellent generator

Bought this generator in preparation for emergency situations at my house. Lost power within weeks of getting it. Filled it with oil, hooked up my 100lb propane tank, filled it with gas and started right up. Powers everything necessary in my house, and love that I can run it on gas and propane, runs for a long time. Fairly quiet as well. I’ve already recommended this model to 3 family and friends.

Easy to assemble. Ran on the first pull

Strong and sturdy. has a collapsable towing handle. I read the manual and assemble as it stated. The 10 mill wrench is in the tool kit and the wheels are quick to install with the wave type cotter pins. I feel the service of the unit should be right after the assembly or when it states to service oil prior to start it probably should say on page 24. The fuel selector switch was in propane so just give it a once over prior to pulling the rope. I just started it to let it run off the factory smell and to make sure it would run when I need it. I hope I can follow up later what a review using the propane part also.

Easy peasy

I just bought it and it is extremely easy to set up and the instructions are very simple. The only thing I wish the would do is every time they say” don’t do this or that” explain why or what will happen if you do. After set up I did just like the directions said for setting up one of the two power sources ( gas or propane ) I pulled the start 1 time and it started right up. I do wish this model had an electric start though. Very well built.

Easy to set up

We bought this right before Christmas and got it set up. Thankfully we did not have to use it, but we were forecast for tornadoes in Iowa in December which is highly unusual. In addition to not being able to go without heat We had a freezer and refrigerator full of food that we could not afford to lose.

Great Generator! Great Brand!

I purchased this Westinghouse generator over a bunch of other well known name brands as this is my 3rd Westinghouse power product. My 1st was a super silent iGen2800c Inverter Generator with CO Sensor, which I was REALLY impressed with to run my jobsite power tools, and my 2nd was a iGen300s Portable Power Station with 100W solar panel for camping. I was so impressed with Westinghouse quality and price that when I needed to buy a bigger generator to run my office computers and lights after a hurricane, that I naturally went for Westinghouse again. I absolutely love the portability of the WGen5300DFcv, with the added bonus of running either normal gas, or propane on this generator. I like the variety and choice of the various style of power outlets on the generator, as well as the CO2 sensor, for safety. Easy to start, easy to run and so easy to move around and pack away with the wheeled frame. I don't think you can go wrong with this brand.

Great!

Was skeptical at first due to the shipping damage, but it turned out to just be cosmetic. Generator works great! Tested it using both gas and propane and no issues. I am impressed at how simple and seamless it is to switch between the two fuel sources. My only complaints are minimal - a wrench to connect the propane wasn't included and the tool kit doesn't come with a way to attach to the frame.

Easy to start

I purchased this generator a few ago. I really haven't given it a full test. I have started it and it is very quiet compared to my 20 year old generator. I like the Idea that it can work on dual fuel supply. I haven't tested the propane fuel, however the gasoline fuel start up was great.

Excellent Product

I already own a 2200 inverter (IGEN) that I have used for camping. I bought this one for the house. It has a enough juice to run most things- just not all at once. I wanted to get an even larger one but the weight of generators in general made lifting a 220 pound generator into a pickup a non starter. So the weight of this is manageable.

Significant improvement

Chose the WGen5300DFcv to replace my very unreliable Firman generator. I put way too much time and money trying to repair the Firman that had less than 10 hours of run time. After reading several reviews and articles, I went with the Westinghouse brand. I needed something I can rely on since we live in Hurricane alley. The WGen has been exactly what I need—reliable and easy to use. The dual fuel system is a plus. Don’t worry about spending the extra money for electric start. It starts easily on the second or third pull. Once started, maintains steady rpm no matter the load. Definitely recommend.
