Not Match Light

I bought the Match Light Kingsford Charcoal and would not light with a match. I had never purchased this before so not sure if I got a defective product or what happened. I thought would be convenient since one side of my gas grill uses charcoal but wasted my money.

Opt for traditional charcoal

I had a terrible experience with this product. I bought the Kingsford Match Light Charcoal for ease in barbecuing, but despite stacking the briquets in a pyramid, not even three full matchbooks could get them to light. I ended up adding lighter fluid in order to get the flames to take. Needless to say, I would not recommend this product.

Hello. We’re very sorry to hear that you had difficulty getting your Kingsford Match Light Charcoal to light. The most common reasons for slow lighting, include lack of oxygen (make sure that you put the briquettes in a pyramid to assist with air circulation and make sure that all of the grill’s air vents are completely open during lighting). Also, windy or damp weather conditions can make it challenging for the charcoal to light, as well as the briquettes or the charcoal bag being damp. Lastly, waiting too long after placing the briquettes on the grill will cause the lighter fluid on the briquettes to evaporate. kingsford is the best

my family has been using your products for as long as I can remember.my father always swore your coals were the best.i agree.our family doee not use any other brands.thanks for such a terrific product.please don't stop selling.if you did,i would have to stop grilling. thanks again,margaret lester . longwood florida

terrible - won't light

I always used Match Light and loved how easy it was. Something has changed drastically. I have bought three different bags from three different stores and none of them would light. they were all bought to be used immediately. It's frustrating because it's not like you can bring it back to the store to get your wasted money back. I will not be wasting my money on this product any longer

Great tasting food

I have been a gas grill owner for 7 years my burners went out I was gonna buy another one but couldnt find the one I wanted so I bought a bag of matchlight to use on the 4th it work out great my food was great and the taste was so much better. Thank you I'll have to buy a bigger bag next time.

Doesn't Light

I have had more than one experience where the charcoal won't light after 1 season. The bag was closed, but come the next summer, the charcoal just won't light. If the charcoal won't light after 1 season, then the bag should indicate this. That the bag, once opened, needs to be used that season or toss, because otherwise it won't light. I've been disappointed by this product more than once. Never fun to be ready to grill only to have to go to the store to buy lighter fluid when the product is suppose to work without it!!!! As a side note, I don't like that I had to open an account with my information just to leave a review!

Kingsford clearly doesnt care, product doesnt work

I grew up on Match Light-- my parents used it, I used it with my parents and when I was old enough, I used it. Now, EVERY TIME I buy it, it doesn't light. Why do I keep buying it? Never again. This Mother's Day, I promised my mom a BBQ so like a sucker I bought Match Light again and guess what, it DID NOT LIGHT. I was furious. I had to delay my Mother's Day BBQ and go to 3 different stores on Mother's Day to find another instant charcoal NOT made by Kingsford. I used the other brand's instant charcoal and it immediately lit! I feel so cheated by Kingsford with its so called guarantee and its useless product that was once the best. These last few years though, it has been more miss than hit (and not just for me apparently). What happened to you, Kingsford? Do you just not care about the quality of your product (or your customers) anymore? Happy Mother's Day. :-/

Charcoal Cooking 101 Made Simple

The thought a cooking on the grille with charcoal getting the grill out, trying to find the lighter, finding matches, waiting for the charcoal was not a pleasant experience...now I happy to get the grill out and pour out the charcoal find the matches and bingo the charcoal is started. No muss nofuss!!!!

Don't waste your moolah on match light

My dearest kingsford, Through the years I've cherished you and faithfully relied on you for grilling on warm California days. Unfortunately, as of late, my heart has waivered as I no longer hold you with the same high regard. You have let yourself go kingsford and you have given me no other choice than to look elsewhere to fulfill my needs as a griller. In other words my love, if the bag says "match light", it better light with a freakin match! So for this reason I bid thee farewell forever. Good luck with all your endeavors and I wish you happiness and good fortune. P.S. Match Light sucks!!!!

easy to use!

We use Kingsford Original at home, when we vacation, go camping and trips where we will be cooking out, we will use Kingsford Match Light. Great product, easy to use and very convenient! We enjoy the ease of use along with th ecools burning long and evenly!
