I bought the Match Light Kingsford Charcoal and would not light with a match. I had never purchased this before so not sure if I got a defective product or what happened. I thought would be convenient since one side of my gas grill uses charcoal but wasted my money.

This is the worst charcoal product I have ever used. Had I known that I would need lighter fluid to light these anyway, I would have just bought regular charcoal. These coals do NOT light easily at all. We've tried newspaper, cardboard, matches, almost everything else short of pouring lighter fluid all over it, and nothing seems to work very effectively. We've been trying for over 30 minutes just to get the coals to LIGHT, let alone heat up enough to cook on. The one time we were successful in getting them to light, it took over an hour and 15 minutes to heat up appropriately. I will NEVER buy this product again, and I would not recommend that anybody else waste their money on it either.

The last two times I have purchased and used Kingsford Match Light, I have had to go to the store and purchase lighter fluid because it won't start. I almost used an entire box of matches once trying to get it to light. The bag says, "No lighter fluid needed. Coals ready in 10 minutes." If this product doesn't get better, I will not recommend it for the price. Spend the money on the regular charcoal and lighter fluid. Kingsford, I have always purchased your products because they have been the best. However, you are letting your grill masters down lately. Help us out, please.

I used it before and love it. THe only problem is u have to make sure the fire is out. The smell of lighter fluid when cooking leaves a fluid taste. So make sure the fire is out and your coals are all red. Then u can cook. Don't rush by putting food on the fire when the fire still going on. It will ruin all your food.

this use to be a good product it has gotten to the point were you still need lighter fluid or it will take forver to light and you forget about it to be ready in 10 minutes it takes 20 minutes just to light im going back to the old style with lighter fluid

We have used your Matchlight product for 15 years now. We have always loved this product. It lights quickly and has always left the food with a good flavor. I am having serious issues with this product this year. It will not stay hot long enough to fully cook our food. I keep having to put it in the oven to finish cooking. This has happened the last three times we have used it. It gets hot quickly, but isn't staying hot enough to even use up the charcoal. I am extremely disappointed in what we have found this year.We have made the decision to try one more time, and if it does the same thing, we will be finding another product. I think you all need to look into this issue

I've been trying for an hour to light the briquettes. Match light is supposed to light instantly every time. Well still not lit and I've gone through a book of matches and burned my finger so much holding a lighter I quit. Dinner ruined, can't light them and we refuse to use lighter fluid that stuff is horrible tasting. Any other suggestions? On how to light something that is supposed to be instant.

When I decide to throw anything on the grill I ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure to grab that Kingsford Matchlight in the black bag! It just couldnt get any easier! I come home, put the ENTIRE bag inside the grill, cut an X in the middle of the bag, and simply light the edges of the bag I cut and within minutes all of it is burning. No messing with lighter fluid, waiting, or worrying when the fire is just right to cook over. I just wait about ten minutes and I am ready to throw that meat on the grill! I absolutely LOVE cooking out year round and I love my Kingsford Matchlight! WONT COOK OUT WITHOUT IT! :)

This is how to start it, never have I had a problem starting this charcoal. Take a small mini propane tank (find at Walmart)with a torch that lights with a click of a button. Bam! that's it! Lights it and never have problems with it staying lit or going out!

I had written an earlier review prior to trying this product. I was responding to others negative comments and voicing worry that I made the wrong purchase. That being said I used the match light for my first grilling last night. All was well. It lit easily. The steaks tasted great. I would purchase match light again.
