The most common reasons for slow lighting, include lack of oxygen (make sure that you put the briquettes in a pyramid to assist with air circulation and make sure that all of the grill’s air vents are completely open during lighting). Also, windy or damp weather conditions can make it challenging for the charcoal to light, as well as the briquettes or the charcoal bag being damp. Lastly, waiting too long after placing the briquettes on the grill will cause the lighter fluid on the briquettes to evaporate.
