The smoothest by far!

I drink many types of whiskeys. I searched high and low for the dark rye. I found it with a drive involved. I can honestly say this is better than regular basil and basil is by far my favorite! I just hope this becomes a regular offering! Very very smooth, I can smell and taste the port. A nice woody flavor as well! Well done my friends!!!

Converted Craft drinker

I am a lover of RYE IPAs and other ales with a rye base. I recently attended a friends bourbon tasting event and discovered I enjoy rye bourbons. While technically a rye whiskey, I did enjoy the complex rye and sweet flavors of this drink. I can see mixing in a regular whiskey on the rocks to tamper by beer fettish, and the spicy bite of the rye is right up my alley. looking forward to more rye whiskeys/bourbons from you all. and also feel your barrels to local craft brewers to enhance their brews.

Give it time

This is quite an unusual bourbon and not the Basil we have all enjoyed for so long. First sip I was ready to rate 1 star, but persevering with this pay dividends and I am now a convert. Not one for words, but the port comes through and makes for a great sipping experience. Recommend no ice.

Sweet smooth start with peppery finish

Nice rye. Drinking it neat is dangerously easy. Has a smooth mouth feel with a nice fruity sweetness. Not a big fan of ports, or modified blens but I like this. Not too smokey in my opinion. Will try the next one over a block of ice. Good for a late winter sipper. It's February in Michigan.

Excellent Rye.

Just picked up a bottle of the Rye by mistake, was in a hurry and just saw the label ,thinking it was bourbon of course. Got home and realized it was the rye. Well to my surprise, I was not disappointed, so smooth and the flavor is very rich. I think I found a new favorite Basil.

Very distinct and tasty Bourbon

I am a scotch drinker by love, but being in Tennessee, Bourbon is much more accessible. There is also not much better after dinner than a Bourbon on a rock. In saying this, I have always found there to be ubiquitous flavor to Bourbon (ie the flavor difference was not abounding.) Most wheated Bourbons tasted the same, and although there is some differentiation in the Rye's, they are still highly correlated. I had the opportunity to taste this Bourbon this past weekend at my brother-in-laws house. I found myself drawn to it the four nights we visited. I had to go buy him another bottle. Rich and distinct in flavor. Nice Bourbon that I will take a place dominance in my liquor cabinet.

Really enjoying the Dark Rye

I grew up in Ireland and have enjoyed Irish Whiskey for years. Last year I spent a few days on the Bourbon Trail and decided to give it a try. I tasted BH's Dark Rye and loved it. I took a bottle back to Ireland on my last trip and shared it with friends who also loved it.

Am thoroughly enjoying this BH dark rye

Was introduced to this at Henry's in historical downtown Charleston, SC. I wanted my usual Manhattan up with a rye and he suggested Basil Hayden's dark rye and boasted that is was great alone to sip. Always one willing to try something different, was glad I did. It is simply delicious start to finish. Reminds me of a very good steak, if it's very good, you don't need a sauce to enjoy it. Now the hunt is on to find locally in my city. Thanks for a great dark rye, enjoying it responsibly!

My New Favorite Rye

I have been a Basel Hayden Whiskey fan for many years, and have been experimenting with Manhattan's for a couple. With Basel Hayden's dark rye, you can pour the sweet vermouth and bitters right down the drain, maybe a Luxardo cherry is you are in the mood, but what a spectacular cocktail. The dark rye got pretty scarce in St. Louis over the Christmas holidays, I found 6 bottle on a grocery store shelf and grabbed them all, kinda sorry if you we also looking :)

Smooth as hell

I've been drinking bourbon for longer than most people reading this have been alive. Because I didn't grow up with rye whiskey it's always been a bit of a mystery to me and I have typically ignored it for the most part. I'm not sure what to say about this exactly, but I have to say in all my years of drinking bourbons and such, this is the smoothest whiskey I have ever had. For full disclosure I would add that I've been in the retail liquor business for 35 years and my family has been owned liquor stores since Prohibition. It would be interesting to see what other peoples' opinions are, but I see myself hoarding a bunch of this and drinking it many times over. From a flavor standpoint it doesn't jump out with multiple flavors, but from a smoothness standpoint it's unparalleled. So for that I'm giving it a solid 5 stars. It doesn't have ANY of the heat, burn or bite that typical brown spirits have. Also, I enjoy bourbon/rye mixed with Sprite or Sprite Zero and I make no apologies for that. But OMG I've never had hardly anything from any spirit line that is as smooth as this. It's just incredible and my hat's off to the distiller who blended this!
