There is no strong smell at all and even smelled good. I have a knot and pain on my shoulder so I applied this before I slept. The next morning, I felt no pain and was relieved. I didn't feel pain though. It is interesting the roller ball style and does distribute it evenly on the area you need it without making a mess or getting it on your hands.
