Does the job well!

I have a super tall 2 yr old that could hop any gate. This one works well cuz it's extra tall ( most stores only carry 36 in as extra tall).. The open bars are nice cuz she can see thru but not have anything to use to climb over. The walk way is a little narrow. Thankful to have sleep again, and a sleeping child!!!

great for dogs!

I bought this gate to keep my 5 month old minpin puppies in the kitchen while I'm at work. They easily jump over regular gates, so I needed one that was plenty high enough to make that impossible. This one was the right price and the right height. I rent my apt, and to avoid putting unnecessary holes, I didn't use the screws. The gate is plenty strong enough with the tension that it has been in place for 3 weeks now without budging. When I read the reviews, I was initially worried about the door opening being too narrow, as I am by far not a small woman. While it's true I usually can't walk straight through it without my hips hitting the sides, it's not like I have to suck it in and hope for the best. In fact, I'm quite comfortable walking through it, even carrying groceries through. I had no problems setting it up, and no alignment issues either. I love that the door does not automatically shut on its own, so I can leave it open while I'm at home and not have to take the gate down completely. My only issue is specific to using it for pets. The bars are a bit wide for smaller puppies, and my smaller 5 lb runt squeezed through. My larger 9 lb pup managed to push the door at the bottom enough to actually BEND the metal bars and squeeze through the then enlarged opening. That was all easy to fix though. the bars weren't really that bent and were easy to put back. I solved the escape artist problem by putting their old shorter gate up in front of this gate and doubling up. I guess some people would then say it defeats the purpose, but my only true reason for buying this gate was the height.

So far it stops my cats

I purchased this to try to stop my cats from wandering upstairs and so far none have tried to squeeze through the bars. There is only one space possibly large enough and that is at the door and it would require lots of investigation and some major wiggling. So far so good. I also decided to not use the wall cups to keep from having to patch holes since my house is for sale and it still is very stable. The only minor problem is the gate is a little narrow and you need to be careful going through when carrying things. It is very easy to remove and put back though.

could be better

This gate does the job but compared to another gate the locking process is more complicated. It is best done with both hands and the gate opening is very narrow. For the money and the location where I needed the gate, it is a good value. I would not want this in a high traffic area due to the narrow opening and more cumbersome lock.

good product- tough to install into anchors

overall the gate does the job. i am using it for a dog, about 50 pounds. i would recommend using the anchors to secure it to the wall as we noticed without them that the gate tended to slip a little on the wall with use of the walk-through section. it is difficult however to install the gate into the anchors once they are in the wall, still working on getting the last section secured. i would recommend it, especially for the value, just be prepared to put a little work into the installation and i think it will be a product used for a long time.

Exactly What I Needed

I bought these gates to place in doorways to keep my two cats from entering rooms that I wanted to keep "kitty-free". They are working great. The gate is high enough to deter them from trying to jump over and the bars are spaced close enough to prevent them from sliding between (which was a concern before my purchase). I am now able to keep all rooms of my home well-ventilated and open to sunlight since I no longer have to keep doors closed. Since I am only trying to keep cats out (not toddlers or large dogs), I did not use the screw-in door frame mounts. I only needed to use the pressure rods alone and it is very secure in the doorway. The easy-open gate is very convenient, and though the opening is fairly narrow, it is plenty wide enough to pass through easily. I think the gates are an excellent value of the money spent. I haven't found anything even close to comparable for the same price (or even higher priced). I highly recommend this product and hope this review is helpful to a prospective buyer.

"Easy Step" is misleading

To me, "easy step" implied a "step to open" type situation. No such thing with this gate. Also, the instructions recommend screwing the mounting cups into the wall, making this a not-so-temporary installation. The price is fair I suppose. The only thing keeping me from returning this is dealing with the hassle of going back to Wal-Mart. I'll adapt the gate on my own to make it more user-friendly and a bit more portable/temporary.

great gate, screws are too cheap and strip easily

love the gate. I got it to use for my 3 1/2 year old's bedroom so she can't get out at night. my 6 year old can't even climb over it. when putting it together, i realized how horribly cheap the screws are, use your own because these ones will strip easily. so easy that it took one time of using my drill to get the screw in, and tried to get it out, nope, already stripped.

dog broke it in a week

while this gate is awesome and i really like it, my dog broke it with no problem at all. he managed to break one of the bars and then he could squeeze right through giving him access to the whole house! however we fixed it ourselves so well see how well that works out. its just a little irritating that we had to buy a 42.00 dollar gate and turn around a week later and spend 10.00 to fix it. but otherwise it is a nice gate just not dog durable.

Awesome gate for the price!

I bought this gate to use for my two small dogs. One is a dachshund, the other is a dachshund mix. I had previously bought multiple gates, all of which weren't high enough (the mix breed dog can jump REALLY high, especially for being so small). This one is perfect height and neither of them are able to escape. It's great for anytime I'm out of the house or at work. And wasn't difficult to install!
