Installed January 2021 (almost 4-years ago) and already have 231+ run hours since. We have this paired with the 200-amp automatic transfer switch. We also have PWRView installed which has helped us monitor and track down our power hungry forgotten gremlins.
Where we live, we have frequent power outages, sometimes for weeks. Generac 24kw model 7210 is peace of mind. We actually are in the middle of a giant widespread power outage in the Greater Seattle Area right now (power outage started November 19, 2024). Thanks to Generac, we have 100% of all our electric conveniences without interruption. Paired with Starlink Internet, we have an Uninterruptible Life plus Full Connectivity.
We have the Guardian 24kw exercise weekly for 15-minutes (12-hrs runtime annually as proactive exercise). Weekly exercise ensures the oil keeps the engine lubricated. I changed oil at 50-hrs and again at 200-hrs. I keep extra filters + oil in-stock so I can maintain during a prolonged outage.
More than enough power to operate our entire extra large home AND charge my electric car with ease. With 4,000 sq ft and 2 kitchens - we can run everything without worry about rationing: 6+ refrigerator/freezers, 2-pumps for septic, electric heat, multiple large 80"+ plus sound system throughout, jacuzzi tub, plus 3 large portable a/c units in the summer. The Guardian doesn't ever hiccup.
Our day time idle power draw is 2kw and overnight it's about 650-watts, which means the generator idles most of the time at <10% power draw. Thanks to the Guardian with advanced fuel management, we burn less than 1/2-gallon/hour of propane or less. Economies of Scale, by sizing up our generator large enough to operate everything on-demand we also benefit from the improved fuel-efficiency-per-watt of larger generators.
We buried a 1k gallon propane tank so we never run out of propane during a power outage. This provides us about 90-days of generator fuel supply. We have a second 1k gallon propane tank to ensure we have plenty of furnace heat + hot water. Our typical annual fuel consumption is about 1k gallons. During one particularly bad snow storm, we had 18+ inches of snow and ran out of propane plus no electricity in 15 *F weather. Before the next winter I had this Guardian installed. I swore never again and over-engineered to ensure that. In our area, we have gone as long as 3-weeks without utility power and about 4+ weeks between propane fuel resupply due to deep blizzard snow.
I also took the time to re-balance/re-wire the breaker panels when installing this generator. Typical USA homes have two 120v power legs. In our house, 90% of our power consumption was on one leg which meant our generators had to run twice as hard with half the power on the second leg completely wasted. By re-wiring our breakers specifically to re-balance all our electric throughout our large house we were able to improve our efficiency immensely. Our electric load is now evenly balanced which allows our generator to operate even more efficiently.
Thanks to the convenience of automatic standby, I have been able to travel for work during inclement weather and the generator powered the whole house without worry. The generator has performed flawlessly while I have been away from home. Zero training required for the family once installed professionally.
The Guardian is very quiet, even so I had it installed out by the barn. This means that we often lose power without realizing it because we can't hear the generator inside our house. The Guardian takes about 30-seconds to startup before supplying stable clean power. For those critical circuits (wifi, security system, routers, starlink, computers) I have installed several battery backups to bridge the 30-seconds.
Due to our jobs (technology + healthcare), we require 24x7x365 connectivity and utilities. Our Guardian has empowered us to remain connected and impactful while working remote during the worst storms.
