I love this product as in encourages us to recycle more than we throw away. That is because the compartment for trash is much smaller than the one for recyclables. The only thing I don’t like about this is that it’s poorly designed. For a company that seems to only hire industrial designers who are former art center car designers and require a masters degree, I guess I expected more from the design. This clearly shows in their product and it’s lack sense when it comes to a user friendly approach. The cans are not a universal configuration, that’s the first annoyance, second is that there are no great handles to hold each can by, making it a very annoying product when taking out the garbage. Besides that, it does have a nice aesthetic when it comes to the step on the bottom. However, all the random form development seems a bit fussy and unnecessary.

I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars because I really do love it. It’s just that I wish the garbage side of the pail was slightly bigger. Other than that, I love it. The recycle pail makes sense that it is bigger than the other side and it forces you to think twice about what we would be sending to a landfill and what should be recycled. The can over all was worth the price. Highly recommend. Easy to clean.

Our last dual compartment can (different model - butterfly open/equal size compartments) was damaged in our recent military PCS. The 46L that we chose to replace it is great - the larger recycling side has made it much more functional for how we sort trash. Plus the relatively compact profile, the smooth open and close, and the easy to clean surface are all wonderful features! We added decals to the lid to designate trash/recycling for visitors, which was a confusion point with our last can. Looks stylish and is very functional in our kitchen.

This is an amazing recycler! It is fingerprint friendly so you don't see smudges! Love the fact that the bins are different sizes. We use the 3/4 side for recyclables and the 1/4 side for plastic bags that cannot be recycled in our regular pick-ups but need to be returned to the grocery store.

Love the size of this model, as our recycling takes up way more space than our garbage side. The color and stainless steel does not leave prints, and I have a toddler so that was aways an issue before. My only complaint is about the garbage bags, they are not very durable as one came apart while taking it out of the can. But other than that I love this dual model and would def recommend! Just plan on using off brand bags :) The close feature is also great, I prefer way better than the sensor one!!

I was so excited for this trash can when ordering it, but my hatred for the tiny space for the actual trash has trumped it all. I love the larger space for the recycling but come on! We all need a little more space for the trash. We've only had it for 3 days and I'm already so beyond frustrated with this thing! I've had to take out the little trash just about every day and we only have one little one, I can't imagine a family of 4 or 5. I can't even empty out my vacuum canister without dirt getting everywhere because the canister is bigger than the tiny trash receptacle!

I really needed a size that would work. I have two of the smaller single size step cans and I just don’t generate enough trash to take it out and it can become a problem. This can allows me to use the larger area for recycling and the small area for trash. You can certainly reverse this but I am not sure why you would do that, since recycling items are usually larger in size and amount. These cans are decorative and work well in my small open floor plan home.

This can fits right in to my newly remodeled kitchen. I love it. My husband loves the wheels on it since he always drags the garbage over to kitchen sink when he's cutting up food. If I had to say one bad thing about it, it would be the steel on the can by the pedal is flimsy and I could see this getting dented easily.

This is our second simplehuman trash can, the recycle trash step combo is just the solution we needed. Sleek functional and practical keeps everything nice and neat and out of sight. We love the step concept keeps my cooking hands free. Thanks for a great product!

I compared all the specs of all the recycler cans before deciding to purchase this trash can. I really love that the recycling side is so big (I believe it's the largest one, at 30L capacity). I produce very little trash, so the right trash side being so small is great for me. The step feels sturdy and the can lid does lower slowly and smoothly. I love the lock feature that allows it to stay fully open when needed for emptying its contents. It did arrive with a dent in the stainless steel outer part of it, but I just smoothed it back out from the inside and the imperfection is not visible where I'm keeping the can, so I didn't bother to contact them for a replacement during these times of the pandemic. I'm using the custom liners for the trash side, and just wiping out the recycling side with a rag and diluted vinegar when it happens to get dirty. It's so easy to clean and take care of, and makes my kitchen look more streamlined. I love it!
