nice gate

We have a two story home and I wanted to turn my childs crib into a big boy bed but since our bdrms are upstairs I needed something to block off the stairs that had a gate in it because I wanted something quiet that could be opened and closed while he sleeps. This gate is great. It's quiet, it's nice and tall and yet he can stil walk down the stairs with me when I want to to be able to do so.

Great Gate, not so great hardware

I bought this gate because it was so tall and it would screw into the wall because our walls aren't the same width all the way up so other gates didn't work. The gate has been a life saver for me, I only wish I'd gotten it sooner since my daughter is 19 months old. The only thing wrong with it is that two of the screws that came with it broke almost instantly into the wall and we had to use our own. If we hadn't had any here I would've given it a lower rating, but since we had some on hand it didn't set us back too much. As far as the gate itself, its very tall, sturdy, and my daughter loves it even though we thought she'd hate it. If it is ever open she has to go close it herself and she doesn't bother trying to run into the kitchen to mess with everything like she used to she just closes and opens the gate like a game, so it's helped especially with putting up groceries and things like that. Overall, gate is worth 5 stars, hardware is 1, but we made it work easily.

Not accepatble:not rigid enough

It looks great in pictures, but, unfortunately, there is a serious design flaw that makes this gate not really usable. The thing is that the frame is not rigid enough, so there is a trade-off: either it is somewhat loose in the door frame, or it would not open. That is simply not acceptable. We had to return it to the store.

Well made... but does not fit opening!

I do like how this gate is made... sturdy and fairly easy to open up with one hand (but not so easy as a kid could do it...). The main problem is that it is very difficult to set up in my home. We have an older townhome, with stairs that have a metal railing. That is only one part of the problem. I had hoped to secure the 3 corners and see how well it settled, and go from there. Unfortunately, the gate without the small expansion is much too small for the opening, and with the expansion, is just a bit too large to be able to use the "cups" that secure the gate to the wall. SO, we had to forgo the wall cups. Also, the gate has to be tightened JUST right, so as not to block the door from opening. This means the gate, at least in our situation, isn't quite sufficiently tight to the walls and rail. I cannot fix the width of the opening problem which means it will never be as sturdy as it should be, but i will be able to jury-rig the metal railing/tightening issue with some strategically placed zip ties. Hopefully you would not have any problems with this gate, as our situation is probably pretty rare. Good luck.

Not meant for heavier animals or children

will not hold much weight because the pressure mounting system wont let you tighten it fully because the door will not open if u do. Bought it to keep dogs apart but the dogs start at 50 lbs so when they push on it or jump on it and pull the on the gate it pops open even when locked not just latched.its not worth the money in my opinion because you cant use it for larger dogs or children because they can move it from the doorway. although it maybe better used for stairs. dont know i didnt try it on a stairway

We bought this gate in store and came home and tried to assemble it. It was difficult to assemble and when fully assembled the door was apparently improperly sautered on because it’s about 1 1/2 inches too short from being latched. Waste of time and money. Also feels cheaply made.

Not for small dogs

I bought this gate in hopes that my papillon would not jump the gate. However, it is for dorways that are 29" and over and that was not listed in the description. My doorway is 28". Also the spokes are far enough apart that he could easily squeeze through the opening between the gate opening permanent part of the gate. Perhaps this might be good for larger dogs. I returned it and purchased a different baby gate that works wonderfully. The new gate also opens both ways.

Sturdy Gate/Easy Set-Up

This gate arrived very quickly, and I found it very easy to set-up. I ready thru the instructions a couple of times just to get each step fixed in my mind before beginning. The outer box it was delivered in was beat up and torn, but the product itself was in great condition. I am using it to keep cats separated, and my smallest one got her head inbetween the gate opening and first rail, so I taped a large bathtowel around that post, and now she can't get her head stuck. I also had to place another small wooden gate over that one since the cats have springs in their legs, so the handle mechanism necessitated my placing the second gate a bit higher than I really wanted to in the door frame. This set up works just fine so far though.

Perfect for top of the stairs!

The installation of this gate was very simple in comparisson with other gates i have installed before. It is taller than the average baby gate so I can rest-assured that my lil one won't be toppling over the top of this gate either. The fact that it swings open makes it easy to get through for the adults and older children in the house (ages 5 + ). If you are going to use this gate for the top of stairs, as I did, I would recommend either using the little circle mounts to make it a bit more secure, or "Mighty Putty" on each of the 4 surfaces that meet with the wall. I used Mighty Putty and that has worked great to keep it a bit more secure, and i can rest assured that my lil guy won't push it over. Great baby gate!

no more counter surfing!

got this gate to keep my two great danes from stealing food. the sight of a 25 lb. ham disappearing out the back door was too much for me. (yes, they can turn door knobs) it works perfectly: tall enough so they cant walk over it; fastens tight enough so they cant unlock it; sturdy enough so they cant bull-doze it. the measurments for door-way width aren't accurate. its very awkward to put together. solved the swinging gate problem by taping it shut with a thin sliver of duct tape. but once it was in -- magic!
