Life and death

I live in a northern state where snow and ice can kill your power. I also have a disabled wife on an oxygen concentrator. If there is no electricity for days and even weeks and no way to exchange tanks it would be disastrous. Two things give me peace of mind. Knowing I can run medical equipment and the refrigerator and freezer and lights. Secondly, it's a WESTINGHOUSE! If that brand confuses you Google it. It's been around for a while. It would seem there is a good reason. I remember our refrigerator in 1962. Rounded top. A classic worth a lot now.

Had the most the features I was looking for

I've only had this generator for less than a month, but I ran it to make sure it would run what I needed when we loose power. The electric start work great and just incase I'm not home my wife will be able to start it with out trying to use the recoil. I did a lot of reading on generators and Westinghouse was rated one of the best and had most of the features, electric start, duel fuel, gas gauge, low oil shut off, and 240v. that I was looking for. So far I'm pleased wit my purchase and would recommend this unit.

Westinghouse Gen

I looked at a lot of emergency generators online before settling on the Westinghouse but just before I ordered I looked at the features list and saw it had an hour meter and a voltage meter. I was disapointed when it arrived since it has neither. While researching I saw that some generators expect the oil to be changed ever 20 hours. This seems crazy as a emergency generator would probably be running 24 hours a day when it is needed. The westinghouse is better as it calls for every 50 hours for an oil change. An hour meter would be nice. Over all I like the dual fuel capability and it started 1st try with propane. I assume it will be similar with gasoline.

Easy Set Up

It's all in the box for an easy and quick set up. Add oil, add fuel, add wheels if you want, fire it up. So simple. Hassle free when you don't need a hassle during power outage. Love that I can run it on propane and not worry about stale fuel issues.

Just what I wanted

This review is for model WGen5300DF. No damage to the generator upon receiving. This review is for model WGen5300DF. No damage to the generator upon receiving. All parts, instructions and user manual were accounted for. At first, I couldn’t find the remote starter fob and was ready to call Westinghouse for a replacement. One last look and I found it attached to the manual start handle. The maintenance and Quick start guide are simple to read and well laid out. I especially appreciated the listing for spark plug and battery after market part numbers along with the Westinghouse part numbers. After completing the “before starting” instructions, I ran the generator on propane first and then on gas. The generator ran as expected and was much quieter than my 12-year-old Colman open frame generator. I plan on using the generator with my home transfer switch during occasional power outages.

Solid machine. Runs great so far

I bought this early in January as a backup for the house since I finally got around to having a friend electrician set up my outside plug and inside transfer switch. Generator runs great but is a little hard starting even with the battery but I attribute that to the frigid temperatures and because it's new. However last test it started right up after I charged the battery for an extended period. The pull start is still a bit of a hassle. It's much quieter than I expected which is great. Only complaint is that there was a small dent in the frame and a few scrapes. I fixed the scrapes with an ink pen and the dent is not worth worrying about.

Very Happy With This Product!

I bought this generator because of the surprise power shut downs in my city. Having this generator provides such a sensed of security. I am not a large woman let alone strong, however this generator provides ease as a move it around and I am very comfortable pulling the cable. I did a lot of research before buying this unit and I am very happy with my decision.

A great running unit

Well I bought it to run the appliances in the camper for deer hunting. I am glad I did. It does a better job than the smaller unit we had. I love the remote start. Do run it in a well ventilated area like the manual says. I did not when I was trying it out at first and found out the CO detector works good and shuts the unit down.

Just what I wanted

Bought this product after buying another brand and returning it because it would not start on propane. Company offered to send new regulators, but Home Depot's 30 day return policy was about the end boxed it up and ordered this 5300DFc. Hooked up propane bottle, it fired right up. Running it now for the 5 hour break-in period think I have a better generator which is a little larger & was the exact same price. Glad other one would not start & run on propane.

Very Impressive Generator

There are must haves when choosing a generator and this unit has them all. Duel fuel - check...240 volt for well pump and hot water - check....electric start for 105 lb wife - check. It even has push button remote start. As far as outlets go, it has one of each of the most popular types, 1 standard 120v wall type outlet, one 120v travel trailer outlet, and one twist lock 240v transfer switch outlet. It can run everything in my house - hot water, well pump, stove, fridge, deep freeze - just not at the same time. Sound-wise, it's a bit on the deeper side and doesn't seem to be that loud. Running it in the driveway 20 feet from the house and you could hear it faintly when inside. It does not seem overly loud to me. Would I run it late nite in a packed campground - no, but that's not really it's intended purpose. It's a great general purpose generator with 240 volt capabilities. Make sure to look at some YouTube videos on break in procedures as it really does make a difference. Overall, I really like the generator and recommend it.
