I owned a Generac 5500 for 15 years so I decided to buy a new, larger one. Great product Except for the Electrical Cord that was included in the carton. It is a cord for contractors to use on a job site. If it were used as a cord for home use, one would have to snake it through the door and attach 3 additional cords to it to operate 3 devices. MY HOME is wired to accept my Generac through my main service panel. Now I have no acceptable cord.

We lose power for a few hours quite often, and it becomes very inconvenient if you're in the middle of dinner, or the big game is on! We love the ease of hookup in the Generac generator we got. Wheel it out, start it up and plug in! The CO2 monitor built in is extra peace of mind for us. We are now going to have the transfer switch installed to make it even easier! A good decision is to have every house have a backup generator installed already which is a home standby generator or a solar panel. Home standby generators are safer because they use natural gas while most portable generators use gasoline which gives off carbon monoxide and not only that. They also injure people if used incorrectly. Many people have died each year when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Remember not to run your generator indoors. Running your generator indoors is never safe. That will increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which causes death. Always use your generator outdoors please. Make sure that your generator is 15-20 feet away from house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Some people also run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Here’s an advice about generator safety: please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. The generator was easy to assemble and use with minimal effort. Instructions were concise and intuitive. All necessary parts were included. The generator started after a few revs of the starter and ran reliably over the next 1 1/2 weeks after Sandy hit. It is reasonably quiet for its rating. It was used to run a variety of household items through the house circuitry which included well pump, septic pump, 2 refrigerators, miscellaneous lighting, oil furnace with hot water baseboard heat, TV, computers and microwave. There were no issues with the performance. There were two less than excellent features: 1) the "snap in pin that supports the collapsible handle is not very sturdy and it will not support any significant pressure. It sheared partially off when someone leaned on it, when locked in the up position. 2) the oil dip stick is not clearly marked with "full" and "add" markings and the instructions are not very clear about the fill level. A picture would have helped.

A lot of features for the money! This unit delivers emergency power for our whole house, except for the oven and dryer. With it, freeers and refrigerators have enough amps to start their compressors, something smaller generators do not! Also, It has overheating shutdown, which is a great reliability feature. The only problem we’ve had so far is with the battery start. the terminals on the battery come loose way to easily. An inexpensive alternative to the permanent generators, which can easily run over $10000 installed.It is sad that we have a need for this technology, when our parents had cheap reliable energy. And it all could of been avoided.

Starts easily using the pull start. Would think the electric start would be fine for an old lady. Like the extended run time as the unit uses so little fuel. I'm using 100% straight gasoline with a bit of Seafoam added which should give me a fuel shelf life of two years if need be. The use of an Generic safety transfer switch (nicely prewired) and an alm. Generac inlet box completed a functional and good looking insulation. We are using eight circuits which required the addition of two mini breakers in the Generac switch panel. That's no problem for an electrician. Bringing the system to ten circuits requires an additional breaker box. A bit noisy but not too bad. My wife says it's "a life saver."

Purchased the gp6500 after a lot of research. It offered the best power for the price. We only had to use it for a little over 1 hour for the first 7 months we owned it. We have been faithful in starting it about every other week or so and ran it with a load for about 20 minutes. We have kept the tank full of gas treated with stabilizer. Well sure enough we lost power this week do to freak March snowstorm. Started on the second pull. It ran over the course of three days for 29 hours. Worked flawlessly. Really a lifesaver, especially with three kids and the wife. Ran 3/4 of the entire house including a well pump, two refrigerators and a deep freezer. We have a Woodstove in the basement so no need for it to run a heat source. Bottom line... Awesome product, great value and so far seems durable. If you're debating this generator, go for it!!!!

Assembly took less than 30-minutes and it started effortlessly right out of the box. A “field test” of the new generator was conducted two days later. After a two hour test run, with all the transfer panel breakers turned on, and nearly every component of a “normal load” placed on the generator--from the well pump to the dishwasher, and from the furnace to the refrigerator & water heater--the GP7500E generator handled the load effortlessly. However, I've recently discovered one issue that remains distressing. In the owner's manual, Generac DOES NOT recommend running the generator in rain or snow. This is equivalent to a "Catch 22" in back-up, emergency power! After all, inclement weather--blizzards, hurricanes, tornados, ice storms, etc--are the causes of power outages in the first place creating the need for back-up generators! So the food in your refrigerator must spoil because it's raining outside? Really?

This takes a little worry away knowing we are protected if an emergency arises and we find ourselves without power. I have several friends and family members who have generac generators so I knew this would be a reliable, quality product. The unit is pretty much ready to go out of the box. Easily assembly and you're up and running. It is a nice size compact unit and fairly lightweight. It has a handle for easy maneuvering. It's pretty straightforward and easy to get started. Theres also a picture chart on the unit itself listing the steps to start the unit. I was impressed with how quiet the unit actually is. I thought it was going to be this loud hunk of machine and its totally not. This generator will be great as a backup if the power ever goes out. I'm always worried about losing all our food in the fridge and deep freezer. I am impressed with the look of this generator also. Everything is labeled clearly and easy to understand. Highly recommend this product to anyone who may find themselves without power. It's always good to have on hand because you never know when something might happen.

FIRST IF YOU BUY THIS BEAST, DRIVE DOWN TO HARBOR FREIGHT AND PICK UP A CHEAP SHOP CRANE, I PAID $129 FOR MINE. THE UNIT HAS A LIFTING EYE ON TOP AND WITH THE SHOP CRANE I CAN EASILY PUT IT IN MY TRUCK OR ON A TRAILER. AND I ALSO LET IT HANG WHILE I INSTALLED THE WHEEL KIT AND FOOT. THIS THING IS PUT TOGETHER NICELY AND ALSO COMES WITH THE MAINTENANCE KIT FOR YOUR NEXT AIRFILTER AND OILFILTER CHANGE AND THE INITIAL OIL IS INCLUDED ALONG WITH CHARGING CABLES FOR THE BATTERY. I BOUGHT THIS AS A BACK UP FOR MY HOME HOWEVER IF ANY FRIENDS OR RELATIVES NEED IT AFTER MY POWER IS BACK ON IT WILL BE OFF TO THERE HOUSE. MY HOME HAS A WELL PUMP, ELECTRIC RANGE, HOT WATER, SEWAGE EJECTION PUMP, ETC, ITS ALL ELECTRIC, SO IF THE POWER GOES OUT WE HAVE NOTHING.
