Amazing Handling - Terrible Ride/Noise

-- 2013 Ford Flex Limited Edition AWD EconoBoost -- I have had 2 complete sets of 255/45ZR20 101Y Pilot Sport A/S 3. Both sets were AMAZING up to about 10,000 miles. I am talking the best handling in all conditions plus they look very sporty!! BUT - after that they seem to be a much harder ride and nosier as times passes. I replaced the first set at 29,000 miles and am now looking to replace the second set at 27,000. Needless to say I am very reluctant to go down this road again!! Premium dollars for a not so overall great tire.

Poor tread wear

This tire has a tread wear rating of 500, and has over 50% of the tread worn after 13,000 miles of easy driving. The car is a BMW 750Li, driven gently and only about 6500 miles a year. The fronts are Michelin Pilot Primacy, with a tread wear rating much lower - 220 - which have 17,000 miles more time on the car (they were installed by the BMW dealer when we purchased the car), and are showing 1/32 less tread than the Pilot Sport A/S 3. This is difficult to grok - a tire with well over twice the tread wear rating, wearing nearly the same in 13,000 miles as the lower tread wear rated tires have in 33,000 miles. These will not be a repeat.

Terrible

I totally agree, 3 season tire. VERY scary in even the lightest snow. Wet and dry weather is great...go figure. These tires inspire so much confidence in wet and dry that they caught me off guard when it started to snow. This is totally a stiff UHP summer tire that actually works great in very cold weather as long as you don't get any snow. Too early to tell how they wear etc. All I buy is Michelin tires so this is a huge let down for me. I need MORE brand new tires now and another set of rims. :(

Pilot Sport A/S 3 on Miata

Replaced OEM tires with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 on my 2011 Mazda MX-5 and immediately noticed a difference in handling, quietness and control. Car holds the road like it's on tracks. After researching thoroughly I believe the Michelins can't be beat for safety, longevity and quality of ride for a Mazda Miata/MX-5. I have about 1000 miles on the tires and feel much more confident driving now.

Pilot Sport A/S 3 Happiness

Living in an area with some winter weather (snow and ice) I prefer an A/S tire vs a maximum performance tire. As usual, Michelin did not let me down. While I don't track the car I do drive fast. I recently was timed at 152 mph and the car felt stable and responsive. There was more speed left but I chickened out. Tires always felt stable, were reasonably quiet, and wear better than expected. Driving a 500 HP AMG, I expected to get about 10,000 miles out of the rears. I am now at 10,000 miles and I SAFELY have 5-10,000 miles left on them.

Work great, but don't last.

I put these tires on my 2010 Mazda 3 in March 2016. It's now Aug 2018 and I've driven 53K with my car and I do use winter tires, so these tires have probably seen around 25K during the non-winter months. These tires are worn down, but 2 of them wont last till the end of the summer (with one of them pretty much has no tread left.) I drive 15 minutes on the hwy to work against traffic. I've had two alignments done to car since I put the tires on to ensure everything is ok. Severely disappointed with claimed 70K treadlife these advertise. Otherwise, I am happy with the performance of these tires when it comes to quietness and other areas.

disappointed in the wear

bought these tires for my little Audi A4 at 66000 miles. At 86000 miles my dealer balanced at my request but refused to rotate since the tires are" worn to the wear bar and cupped badly". Loved the quiet ride and road dependability but will sadly took for another brand now. I use the Audi around town 60% and highway 40%. I am very disappointed to be needing a new set of tires.

Nice looking tire

Use these as summer tires only. They wear very well. They are nosier than my winter tires, also the dealer I bought them from used nitrogen, when I check my air pressure and have to add air I do not have nitrogen. I was told that is O.K. but seems no one knows for sure. Also had a flat so I have three tires with nitrogen and one with out, is this O.K.?

These tires really stick to the road!

These tires always grip the road. They give you a very secure feeling even in hard rain. They don't slip in fast acceleration. And they look good! My only wish is that they were quieter on the road. But the other attributes are more important. I love how they look on the car.

"Exceptional performance tires"

Performance cars, BMWs and the like, should be factory equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires. When investing in a high end product, you want the very best from the start. Car dealers equip according to bulk purchasing. Your performance car is inferior from the get go. So after purchase of your new vehicle, like myself, I would recommend an immediate change to Michelin Pilot Sports. Costly? Not when concidering remarkable handling, super rain performance, great wear characteristics, and increased safety from your investment.
