Must have for women

The only draw back is the charging plug. You have to use an extension cord.

Absolutely junk!

I can't believe Sam's is selling this again! They stopped selling it for a while due to complaints and returns... Will work for one or two uses, then will either die quietly if you're lucky or might start smoking and almost burn your house down. I had 2 of them, and would never risk my family's life with this in the house or car.

Died like the other brands I have tried.

This was the fifth such "jump starter" that I have purchased over the last two decades. I have never gotten more than 3 years life out of any of them. I purchased the extended warranty because of this. Sure enough, mine would not work or recharge almost 3 years after purchase, just before the warranty expired. I only used it as a jump starter twice over that time, and never used the air compressor. Took it back to Sams Club, and despite the large pile of new ones in the store, they would not accept it, so I had to contact Allstate. I was only offered $55 reimbursement, because I had purchased it during a price reduction, and now it costs almost $90. Definitely not buying the same thing again. Word of advice, if you find yourself needing this frequently, you are better off buying a new vehicle battery.

Not worth the money

Had high hopes with name brand and overall design. Was really dissapointed by the first attempt at pumping my tire to 43psi. It literally took close to 20 minutes to pump from deflated. Had to start it up again because it auto-shut offs after 10 minutes. My little Milwaukee m12 inflator runs laps and laps over this large bright relic. Its a shame I cant return this.

doesnt work compared to others

Bought one had it for a few months went to jump start buddy and it failed and I had fully charged it when purchased took it back to Sams and they exchanged for a new no problem. I charged this one as well when I got it home went to jump start a bobcat skid steer again new one failed. gonna try and exchange again. I have always had these without incident way back to peak 450 but Stanley really dropped the ball on this 1000 amp

Disappointing

The short story is: I would not recommend these. After owning two of them three years, I just returned both to Sam's Club this afternoon. To solidify my disappointment, the woman at the return counter said "you have no idea how many of these come back", which unfortunately, made perfect sense to me. The long of it: I owned two of these for about three years. We needed them a total of 4 times. Every, single, time... Every time it did not work. It either would not turn on, or said it had a dead battery (even though it was fully charged 2 weeks prior), or some other issue. I'll break it down in categories without bias to give the benefit of the doubt, since it really does have some neat features and had great potential. Portability: 2/5 It's rather large and heavy, and doesn't have a great handle. Or, at least the handle that's there doesn't work for my hands so I end up carrying it with two fingers through a loop. Many jump starters I've used are roughly the size of a thin book, which carry either in cases or with one hand. So, I wouldn't take it with my anywhere... It's a "stay in the car" kind of item. Which is fine, as that's what it is touted for. Features: 4/5 Without going into durability, or reliability, the features offered are pretty great with a few exceptions. It has an air compressor, for inflating tires, along with a pressure gauge. That is super handy if you get a low tire dummy light, or just need to top off when you're out. It also has a USB charging section, which is helpful for camping or a multitude of other situations. With that said, this is always in my car, and this item is too heavy to carry, which means I would only use the car to charge, but that's beyond the point. It also has a feature to check the battery health, and while the car is running do an alternator check. These are handy features for high level debugging, but an expert needs to look to really make any diagnosis worth believing. I took a star off here because some of the features are strange. For example: the USB charging needs to be turned on and off with a toggle button that is right on the front of the device. It makes a loud beep sequence when turned on, and if slightly pressed (like if it rests against anything in the car... Because the button sticks out of the front of the device and is easily hit...) then it will beep a lot in the back of the car and make you wonder what is happening. It also has a light, which is great, though I didn't end up in any situation where it was necessary, as I said the unit it heavy and bulky, so hanging it over an engine bay as a flashlight doesn't exactly make sense. Reliability: 1/5 This is my own personal experience, but every time I needed it, this thing wouldn't work. One time (4th time I tried to use it) I stopped when I saw someone with their hood up. I pulled out the device and was finally able to get it turned on after whacking the top of the case a few times, then it showed a 1/4 battery indicator, even though I had just recharged it a few weeks prior. Well, I wasn't certain if that meant the device battery, or the car .. so we proceeded (all of the display and lights were on for the device). Well, she couldn't even crank the engine enough to start. It would barely turn over the V6 in their Toyota 4Runner. Another time I stopped to help someone else with a dead battery once, and the Stanley just wouldn't turn on sitting alone, it wouldn't turn on when hooked up to the car, it didn't do anything. When I got home, I figured it was dead, so I set it on my workbench and turned the switch and nothing, so I gave it a whack on the top and it out up, full battery on the display. I was bummed I had to leave that person waiting hours for a tow truck. Overall: 1/5 In general, I'd never buy this again. I guess I should have known that the company that makes hand planes wouldn't make a good car jump starter, but it just seemed like such a great package! It was also so big and robust I figured it would have a large battery that would work for a long time. Very disappointed.
