The fabric softener should have smooth, even consistency throughout. Performance should not be affected and the product is completely safe and effective to use. We recommend shaking the container vigorously to redistribute contents evenly. It is possible the package was subjected to extreme temperatures during distribution or storage causing the texture you describe.
