My grandma's mum died in a farming accident; she was killed when a cow kicked her in the stomach. That's my family's (true) cow tale. But a lot of the fun in this treat is the shocked look of the bovine miss on the packaging as we consider eating cow tails rather than telling cow tales. The caramel is not as sweet or melty or sticky as one might expect from a fine confectionary. It's a Goetze's caramel, and they are honest about listing flour as the first ingredient. The package opens with a satisfying zip that reminds me of opening a tent; note these would make a great camping treat as the packaging could be MacGyvered into hand woven tie-downs! The candy is chewy, but doesn't stick to your teeth. The length of time it takes to consume the first bite is sufficient to play with the rest turning it into a snail or simply to ponder the wonders of commercial extrusion. Sam's Club has given us a 36 ct. display ready pack that fits well on a pantry shelf, standing on end or laying down. It's American made, and it even floats! Frankly, it's a fun and corny joke to offer the youngsters Cow Tales as a treat. Now anyone who has read their Betty Crocker Cookbook will tell you that this is not what caramel is all about, and honestly that top layer of goo in a Milky Way will give you more of a caramel kick. But for playful fun, with an oreo stuff-like cream center, Goetze's Cow Tales Caramel are hard to beat.

These have been a favorite of mine for years. Just one will add a level of comfort to an otherwise boring day. They are individually wrapped, so you can slip one into your purse or briefcase for enjoyment while on the go. The delicious caramel with the melt in your mouth cream center are very tempting, so I really have to limit myself to just one.

Great price for the cowtales. If you've never had a cowtale, make your moooove, buy these. Theyre good! They ARE unique in flavor. If Sams ever gets the oreo cowtales, omw! Watch out! They'll be sold out even quicker then these original ones. The green apple and caramel flavors are GREAT as well.

I purchased a box of 36 Cowtails in October, as a matter of fact, I ordered 2 boxes. They were $9.89 each. I just purchased a box of 36 Cowtails in November, thinking I would get them for $9.89. But they WERE $16.58 FOR A BOX OF 36. Why is there almost a $7.00 price difference within a month. That is ridiculous. Did they run out of sugar or caramel? I recommend this item, but I will not pay $16.58 a box anymore. Just added to my droplist.

Tasted funny, like something crawled into the taste of it..like maybe a rubber taste? Not sure but we do not like it.
